Been through this lots! These babies go thru so much! A couple tips because foster care don’t warn you about!!Watch what may set them I off an what makes them scared or angry. Lots of love and patience. Since they have done without food Leave out food like fruit or crackers for them . I have had kids hide their food for fear they wouldn’t have any. Weighted blanket HELPS TREMENDOUSLY! Sound machines or calming music is a must to at all times. Avoid going places it be overwhelming. Smells and sights can set off trauma. It’s better if they sleep together they feel safer . Can the one homeschool? He would probably do better because mentally is more important than physical learning right now. Know I’m praying for you! It’s a hard road! I wish the world could see how heartbreaking and what really goes on here in America. Most abuse and neglect is thur out of court! Encourage and speak life into every day. You are loved, beautiful, etc.

I really felt emotional. This is heartbreaking. I don’t understand why the world is like this. I’m struggling to understand what’s the purpose of life. Why is their so much pain, heartache and suffering. May our Lord provide you with everything that you need and may the children that come through your home leave equipped to handle what comes next and may they always be protected. ✝️

As a trauma survivor, I would suggest giving them stuffed animals to sleep with. Let them sleep together in the same bed so they feel safer. Give them flashlights to use in the dark so they know there is nothing in the room that’s going to hurt them. I wouldn’t talk to them about trauma at all. Give them art supplies to be creative freely. NEVER MAKE A TRAUMA SURVIVOR talk about what happened. Pray about happy positive things to keep their minds off the bad thoughts. I did a process where a therapist had me close my eyes and put all the bad scary memories in a locked box on a boat and let it float down the river so I didn’t have to keep the thoughts in my mind. It was very helpful. Do not discuss what happened to them.

It’s ok to talk if they bring it up but talking in general causes you to relive the horror

You and your family are such a blessing. It breaks my heart to hear their story, even though I know this is the reality for millions of kids...every story tugs at me. I get too caught up in my feelings when im presented w/ these types of situations. I'm grateful for you and others who can foster; thank you for mothering and loving all kids. I have an organization where I work with homeless adults. It's challenging but its brings me alot of joy.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! As someone who was adopted and came to the faith, I am homeschooling and very interested in fostering soon. I want to help my community and spread some love and the gospel. I love your content. You teach about love and school and discipline so well and it has helped me a lot as someone who grew up in neglect and abuse. Looking forward to the updates on the boys and your other content!

I agree that routine is the best loving holder of children. I am a preschool teacher and many of the children I work with come from complex backgrounds. I also find music and song is a precious treasure - a way for children to express emotions without having to come up with the words….They can carry the songs and action poems with them wherever they go once they learn some special ones and it may likely become part of their self soothing toolkit. As a teacher these are two aspects I hold dearly to my teaching practice because the power of both loving routine and singing songs together and to a child are so fundamentally important….You can have all the toys in the world but without those things something feels missing and things turn to custard quickly. I hope the boys find a safe, loving future home to thrive in when the time is right. Meanwhile I wish them and you all the best with this journey. It is heavy on the heart, soul and body to be around traumatic pain in children. I am glad you are building a village to support them and you all. I am sad and so so sorry that children experience the world in these awful ways. They deserve to be cherished and thrive in safety and love as every child should. Best wishes ❤️

@ when I was 12 one of my older cousins was a foster parent. She had me tutor a young boy who couldn’t read. He was 8 years old. It was so sad. I was in shock that someone had a worse life than me. I truly felt blessed that I was taught to read in kindergarten.

Trauma survivors are striving to function in a normal way. Being behind in academics really isn’t the focus. Their cortisol levels are way too high - adding additional pressure and stress is not helpful.
