@LeanneInAdelaide5 жыл бұрын
Bless the first owner and dog. They made a bit of a mess of it. Who cares though they are both so happy together and that is all that matters. I love crufts for not being too pretentious and being "human" and having this part of the competition. This is so nice to allow so many totally gorgeous dogs to shine. Total respect for the owners here.
@ranmakuro5 жыл бұрын
Well, the sports part is the only part of Crufts you may call "human". The breeding part is critizised all over for awarding breeding dogs that are sick by genes. They implemented vet checks, but even there can't be seen heart illness, brain illness or such. They see the dog for one moment and so does the judge. I'm not sure if today dogs get sorted out by veterinary documents before therefore sick dogs won't participate, but I believe, it is the way it has been ever since. If I see all those dogs in the arena hanging in their thin collars being throttled on straight leashes I can't see any "human" behavior. The sports part still is fun to watch every year and I love to hear the commentator. This is what Crufts should be through and through.

@@ranmakuro well said. Even these seemingly more humane activities just underline the attitude to dogs as beings rather than as examples of human manipulation - which so often, as you say, results in poor quality of life. My fondest memory of any dog event, was seeing a woman attempt an Agility course with her Afghan Hound. She started running towards the first obstacle, happy as could be. Her dog was running in the opposite direction towards a woman snacking on a ham sandwhich. It came to her, sat down in front and did the most polite beg I've ever seen. Dogs are simply the best people.

I love the commentators on the crufts videos. They are always quick to give compliments and kindness to handlers and dogs alike. I also love how they point out that reward based training or positive training is how these dogs and so many more are trained because "that's how they learn". :)
@Sandy335695 жыл бұрын
Eliza Eliza There are other ways to train dogs that are just fine, but Agility is a sport that is trained by positive reinforcement by most people.
@elizaeliza59375 жыл бұрын
@@Sandy33569 You are correct in saying there are other methods dogs and other animals are trained with. But science and research has shown that the best training methods focus on redirecting unwanted behaviors, rewarding desired behaviors, and avoid inflicting pain, fear, or asserting dominance. I am not sure which methods you are specifically speaking about but what is commonly referred to as positive reinforcement training, or positive training is the best known example of training that fits these criteria.

I have been to countless events (not dog shows but all kinds of other events) where there are long waits between performances, and people don't know the order in which they are competing or performing, and things are disorganized and confusing. Ugh! To think that you could organize people and animals and commentators this tightly is quite amazing. Well done, Crufts!

My yorkie named Charlie died last year and I did agility with him. We now have a new yorkie named bengi and he is nearly 6 months. When he is 18 months ima start doing tiny jumps with him. Right now I’m teaching him left right sit and stay just simple commands. He knows the tunnel very good and he is only walking and running over poles on the ground since he isn’t allowed to jump or stuff the that. It would really help for tips on training since it’s only my second time doing it

Good luck! Agility is really a fun thing to do, and I'm sure you and Bengie will have a lot of fun😂 I can't really give you any advices, but you could maybe look for some videos where they show what kind of things you can teach a young dog that will be helpful when you wanna do agility later 🤔 I might check out some as well since I'm getting a Border Collie puppy in 2 weeks, and I wanna do agility later. I've been doing agillty with my dog since I'm about 8 years old (I'm 15 now), but my dog was older than a year already (my dog will be 10 years old next month) so I didn't have to wait for her to be old enough😂

Yes, he is now going threw weaves but I started of with him doing 3 weave poles just so he don’t get confused and I’m just going to keep work on the weaves since I find them the hardest to teach but he is getting there. And our vet said he is in his right size and stuff so I can start making him go over hurdles but mostly ground level he goes over them so good and now he just jumps them with out me asking him to, so he is enjoying it and is it ok if I don’t give him treats I just give him his toy since I want him to think it’s a game. And I don’t want him to do it for a treat
