Rebel 300 was what I started on. If you are coming from a background of never controlled a motorcycle or dirt-bike, Rebel 300 all the way. Otherwise, the 500 is perfect for those getting back in or coming from dirt-bikes. Now have the Rebel 1100DCT and never getting rid of it. Enjoy the hell outta that Rebel 300. It's fantastic and you'll love it!

Birch, great video! Just an FYI, if you ever purchase another bike, or need to haul one, it will fit in the back of an F-150 without the extra expense of renting the pull-behind trailer. Just strap it through the front forks, as you did in your video, then one more strap through the back tire. Leave the bike in gear, and leave your truck bed open. Add a red flag to the tip of the bed door and you're all set! Within the past two years I purchased a Rebel 500 and also a Bonneville (both about 200 miles away) and brought them both home in the F-150 with no issues!

Hey Jim! Good to hear from ya! That was the plan originally, but then I realized the trailer was cheaper than the ramps I’d need to get the bike into the truck bed 😳😳😳

Yeah, man, Pennsylvania is beautiful! The roads suck, but the scenery is awesome. It's been a great place to learn how to ride. It was particularly great during full lockdown when the roads were pretty much empty. I was still learning for the most part, so it was perfect for me. And congrats on the Rebel! I've been itching to try riding one, but haven't been able to find one available for test rides, as they sell out instantly these days.

What a deal! Most old Rebel 250's are $2500 or more. Most 2017+ Rebels are in the high $3K's. I can see why you did the hassle of the long distance, etc. Glad it panned out. (Hate to go that distance, rent the truck and trailer to find something wrong with the bike.) Congrats!

how did you get a free bike? Just curious, have to know the story lol I have a VStar 1300 but I definitely want to add a Rebel 1100 some day. Looks like the perfect blend between cruiser comfort and light weight sportiness for me.
@ZydecoBlue2 жыл бұрын
@@MansterBear my future father-in-law bought it new, rode it a couple times, and decided it wasn't for him. It sat in the shed for 10 years, unloved, and he was going to sell it. I offered to buy it, and it was gifted to me instead. Learning a lot from that bike, including how to clean a carburetor.
@MansterBear2 жыл бұрын
@@ZydecoBlue that’s awesome. I had a CBR years and years ago, then a Fatboy. Then no bike at all for like 8 years until I picked up the VStar a month ago. I was choosing between a VStar and a Shadow. There was a nice shadow but it old before I was ready to buy, then the VStar popped up. Have fun on the Shadow!

I kept my first bike for 30 years.(1980 Honda CM 400). All the old guys said they wished they still had their first bike. I paid $600 in '83, and sold it for $1300, 30 years and 36k miles later. I had other bikes at the same time, as I grew in experience, but kept my first one "until it was time to letgo".

A bike like the rebel is a much better candidate for a beginner bike than a Sportster. It is much lighter and more Nimble and easier to catch if it starts to fall over because of it weighing less. You will always find a place in your heart for your first motorcycle. Know how many motorcycles come and go you will always remember your first one. It changes your life.

Putting the straps below the suspension is the best idea that way they can't loosen when it bounces around
@kevincarson709611 ай бұрын
I had a tire unexpectedly go flat while driving on a short trip across town once and strapping that way doesn't go well. Strapping higher and compressing the suspension some allows the height to change and is still secure. Securing at both points wouldn't hurt...
