Hey it's me again, the big fat Canadian who joked about being in a "whale watching video" I have a sense of humor about my shape.. but also i have been watching your channel for 50 days. It has helped me stay motivated to take charge of what I put in my body. The fish soup series was sure long but also worth every bit of info and instructions. In the 50 days since I started watching your channel I have lost 45 pounds. Which is amazing to me. I have 80 more pounds to go and when I get there I might have to come down there and do some free diving to celebrate. Thanks for everything and tell Kimber she's a good girl for me.

Man, that's amazing and so happy to hear that. That's one of my main motivators for this channel. You lose that wait and come down here and I'll take you out on a trip. We'll make a film about it and help others do the same thing. Thank you for sharing!

A safety stop?
@ClarkJudah4 жыл бұрын
I did notice that on our first solo dive. We almost floated right to the top as that air expanded.
@zzzxxzzz32484 жыл бұрын
@@billw1044 if you don't stop and let your body equalise about 20 ft from the surface for about 5 minutes , sometimes 2 stops depending on how deep you dive and how long you stay down! The reason is if you don't you could be injured or die from the Bends . Nitrogen Air bubble in your bloodstream and other tissues of your body! If this happens you must get into a recompression chamber (hyperbaric chamber) to save your life or reverse the damage being done !

Welcome to club! I was certified back in 1996. Unfortunately, I lost both my dive buddies for a while. One was my son who decided to join the Marine Corps. We will go diving again someday. The other was my best friend who was rear ended while stoped at a red light on a motorcycle and is now a paraplegic. Man a few years ago I was doing over 100 dives a year. This year I've only done about 20. Hoping to get my friend back in the water in the future. Paraplegics can dive with certain accommodations. It will be challenging but rewarding to see him enjoying the underwater world again.

As an ex-Scuba Instructor I can see some things (IMO) that Kate explained wrong. First, the BC should be situated where the top of the tank valve is even with the top of the neckline on the BC. This is so the tank doesn't ride high and hit you in the back of the head while swimming. Second, the 2nd strap at the top of the BC is the carry strap and should not be around the tank valve. Some BC's may have a second strap under the primary buckle one, and that is for added stability of the tank in the BC. Third, always work from behind the tank so that you naturally mount the Regulator system (1st and 2nd stages) correctly with the primary reg and octo on the right side, and power inflator & gauges on the left. Fourth, again working from behind the tank you hold the gauge/console down and away from you and other people. Then you slowly crack the tank valve and let the air come in. Open the valve slowly all the way and then a quarter turn back. That way you can easily close the tank valve if you have a leak at the tank/1st Stage connection. You leave quarter turn back because some valves may be sticky or someone cranked it open all the way it is stuck. As part of checking your regulator's breathing you should also do a check on the BC Power Inflator to make sure the air is going in and there isn't a problem at that point. Laying down the tank/BC rig should be done with the tank on bottom and the regs (primary/octo) and gauge console on top. That way you don't get crap in it (sand when beach diving) or those items can get damaged (tank rolls on them, or something lands on them). Hopefully the BC has accessory clips for the gauge hose and octo. They help keep things organized. And good for Kate putting the hand on the 2nd stage reg during the CESA skill. That was good prevention of him spitting out the 2nd stage. Sorry, taught for 15 years (10 in SoCal, 5 in Colorado). If I stayed active teaching, last month (September) would have been my 30 year mark as an instructor.
