Hey Brian! Just wanted to say that your videos have helped me IMMENSELY with DBFZ. You made me realize that when I lost to a masher or insanely random player it was due to over-engaging. Now, when I play patiently and punish mistakes, I win nearly every time with a clean sweep. I've now finally reached Demon rank! Thank you a ton. PS: I'm hardcore digging the stache.

In hftf, jotaro's oki relies on a 50/50 meaty which leads into his bnb which also leads into hkd WHICH ALSO leads into 50/50 oki. If you don't meaty, the enemy rolls or does a super and s through you and you get fucked. Just goes to show how much a meaty changes the game.

To be fair though, if jotoro even so much as grazes you with a stand off dash 5A, you’re losing half your health. I wouldn’t go so far as to say your fucked, but ur day is infinitely easier if you don’t mess up your 50/50 and your opponent guesses wrong

@@Brian_F Oh for sure. The subject is super interesting to me. I'm actually questioning my priorities when helping people that want to get better at fighting games. i give a lot of priority to the scientific aspect of the genre when playing myself so maybe instintively i thought this was everyone's priority when trying to get better, and that's probably the main reason i have a lot of troubles finding a flexible way to teach every kind of player there is
@zokisvasta4 жыл бұрын
Notice how Waffles has an incredibly healthy approach to the game. He realizes he's not playing well and knows he lacks "basic" knowledge, and he's willing to focus on fixing the issues he's having. This is also a testament to the fact that you don't have to know every single aspect of the game to have fun and be a decent player.

Like what move to do right after a throw to catch the opponent in a meaty and set them up for a whiff punish, that is slick. Anyone have advice for in match blanking, freezing when pressured and how to stop using the wrong buttons?
@BrainGeniusAcademy4 жыл бұрын
Not a pro but this usually means your mental stack is too full. You don't have mastery of your tools so you're stopping to think about your next action, which causes you to be slow or miss the chance entirely. Searching for "fighting game mental stack" will bring up lots of explainers and guides but the short version is to train specific situations so you can have a default answer. If an opponent jumps at you, you should have a default anti-air ready. Hitting the wrong buttons ties into this - if you don't have an answer trained already, your hands might start moving before you pick an answer - boom, wrong button.
@Ayyem934 жыл бұрын
@@BrainGeniusAcademy Could it also be the time I have in? I just started playing fighters this May and I feel like I've progressed tons over the past few months but I keep moving between super bronze and bronze and it really gets to me, because I want to be great and my rank stagnation tells me I'm not getting better.
@LukasRocks0014 жыл бұрын
@@Ayyem93 Ranked is more of a test about match-up knowledge than raw skill in the Silver-Platinum rank range. If you're hard stuck in bronze, however, you still lack the internalized basics. Work on your anti-airs and your punishes, get all your bnb combos down to muscle memory and every time you get blown up by some crazy ass setup, save the replay and go through it to see how you could've escaped and when you should've pressed your fast button.

What is a meaty
@tasseiviews29474 жыл бұрын
I'm still struggling with what a meaty actually is. Is it basically to have active frames as your opponent rises?
@zokisvasta4 жыл бұрын
Yes. And not only be in active frames of the move, but ideally you'd have your move hit them on the last active frame.
@tasseiviews29474 жыл бұрын
@@zokisvasta Ideally hitting them on the last active frame, is that so that you can move again first or as fast as possible?
@zokisvasta4 жыл бұрын
TasseiViews In essence, yes. Your frame advantage will be better if the move hits later in its active frames. This is because the blockstun duration is the same, no matter which frame your move hits on.
