Being a pilot, I say it really is “flying,” sort of. Water performed exactly like air, just thicker. Wings, propellers and Jets etc. work in water or air. A submarine is essentially “flying,” through the water. It uses ballasts but some of the older ones look like they have a wing and of course a prop, that combined with “airspeed,” would keep it loft in the water, but even then I suppose it would need ballast or it would just sink if the propeller stops. I must look into this lol If you are learning, or already are, a pilot learn to visualize the air, you are “flying,” through thin/invisible “water.” It really helps you visualize stalls, end even turbulence. There is turbulence nearly at all times above many mountains, they don’t have to be big (relatively speaking) it’s exactly like water going over a rock in a river.

I’ve often wondered why hydrofoils aren’t more prevalent? I would think they would save fuel, big time! (Maybe I just answered my own question) The ride is so smooth. No more jarring everything from your spine to the hull of the vessel! I remember this from a one time random opportunity when I was 13. We had a small resort in Minnesota for a few years. One of our guests had a classic restored old Scott Atwater boat from the 50s. They also had a pair of old wooden hydrofoil waterskis! I was all about waterskiing at this point in my life. I had to try these things! They obliged, it did not take long to get the hang of it. You get up like normal skis. Once you hit a certain miles per hour. You will rise up out of the water. The key is having your arms straight out in front of you. If you raise the ski rope handle. You will go down to the water. If you lower the handle. You will rise up out of the water. You learn to raise or lower the handle till you find the happy medium. And you will ride around 3 feet high out of the water. And you feel no bumps! You can get good at it. Raise up, then drop down. Up down, up down. It was really pretty cool! Not long after that. Somebody invented that wakeboard with a foil on it. The air chair! I pulled a friend of mine all day one afternoon. He wasn’t going to stop until he had successfully completed a full flip with his. After many hours. He finally nailed one! Talked to him several years later. And to this day. It was the only one he ever did.I’m looking down the barrel of 60 years old now. So again I wonder. Why are there no hydrofoils of any kind out there?! It’s either supercar blondes for a million bucks. Or it’s a military amphibious vehicle that’s using the technology. Why?!

Hydro Foils have been around for a while now. I wouldn't say its flys perhaps it's the closest thing to flying as one can get without leaving the surface. Google USS Pegasus, The name of the class and the 1st ship in that class A fast attack boat that Hullborne it reached 12 knots 14 Mph 22 Km/h. But when planed on its foils, its speed was up to 48 knots, 55 Mph 89 Km/h. This thing was a modern PT boat. Idk if it could hide in rivers or other shallow water as the P.T. could. But with the foils idk. But a awesome attack craft nonetheless.

You know the first ones who did this in the Grand scale was USSR !!! I was born in Odessa city Ukraine which is on the Black Sea and you could take one of this boats from city to city which are located on sure line !!! The only thing is the boats took like 30+ people and they had airplane turbines engines and it had 2 skies one up front and one in the back and I tell you this thing was nothing like that over expansive imitation!!!!! And the name of it was COMETA !!!!! But the ONLY FLYING HYDROFOILS WERE ALSO IN USSR !!! But on the Caspian Sea that thing was a MONSTER!!! Google it and you’ll see!!!!????
