To answer your question I think it may be a number of factors: 1) you have kids and your time and energy are devoted to them 2) you work from home so there’s no separation between the two 3) it doesn’t seem like your home has designated rooms for their functions (also cus you have kids and follow you and you have to keep them entertained) for example: a room solely for crafts, a room solely work, a room solely for xyz without stuff that doesn’t belong there. 4) take a look at the space to see if those rooms are functional and organized in a way that works for you. Sometimes the space isn’t functional for you, or not organized in the way you need it so you don’t want to do something or put back something once you’re done. 5) do you enjoy your space? Maybe it’s because the space or the furniture or the design of the place doesn’t match with your style and therefore it’s not enjoyable to be there? This goes back to #4. 6) People say the state of your room/house/etc is the state of your mental health 7) finding a rhythm and routine that works for you and your family. It takes time to build a routine and habit but finding and building habits that helps your family takes time. 8) sometimes creative people just struggle with organization. “Creative people work better in messy surroundings because clutter can spark their imagination and creativity. Chaos, disarray, and disorder can stimulate the mind and provide unique inspiration for artists, writers, and designers.” 9) coming from an Asian household, I find that our parents/ grandparents are hoarders, kept everything, and lacked a meaningful organizational system. Therefore, we weren’t taught to dispose of things and how to organize. I love you and your family. I love your channel. The first step is recognizing it, and doing something about it. It’s never going to be perfect. Please give yourself grace. You have young children and maybe this is the season in life where you are more present with them. At the end of the day, are you and your family safe, fed, and loved? If yes, give yourself grace and slowly work on different home projects that help you all get into a habit/routine that works for your family.

Also don’t forget to think about what you’re bringing into the house. There is another KZbinr minimalist mom I think? And she basically said something like every item in your home is something to manage like inventory in a warehouse. So you can declutter but if you’re also bringing things in it takes up space physically and mentally. But it’s a journey and takes time! You’re doing great from what I can tell in your videos. The Carla project also talks about the journey to declutter and gives like really practical advice. Be gentle with yourself! 😊

For toys and clothes, 1 rule I like to keep is “1 in, 1 out”. If they want to open a new toy, they have to donate 1 (or more if they want). Same with clothes, if I buy a shirt, gotta get rid of a shirt or something similar. It keeps everything less cluttered! If I see an appliance I haven’t used and can’t imaging myself using within 3 months, it goes to marketplace! Always check for expired stuff in the drawers so you can just throw them out. Hope these tips help 😅

Your home doesn't need to be perfect, it needs to be functional. You all also have children. It may be helpful to prioritize large furniture pieces to help with storage. Think easy organization like trunks, dressers, and armoires to store items quick. Containers are great but not for big items that probably contribute to the clutter. A giant trunk = quickly hide all kids toys, blankets, backpacks/duffel bags.

Omg! It’s so refreshing to see a relatable organization video, usually it’s just a video of someone organizing a spotless area with only a couple aesthetically pleasing items 😂 Sometimes I regret getting such a large home because although the space is nice and we can accommodate guest it’s sooo much to clean and we end up using and messing up all the rooms unnecessarily. Please let me know when you find out how to organize efficiently in a way that it stays that way, I know it has a lot to do with organizing with your normal routine so it’s easy to use and put stuff back. Putting things back is half the battle in my opinion because then you can just do maintenance cleans instead of the exhausting deep declutter cleans all the time. Anyway love your videos! You guys are awesome!

I think it's so admirable that you even found the time and energy at all to do the amount of cleaning and organizing that you did in this video. It would be a big feat for someone even without kids! I definitely sense the discontent that you have for your current state of your home and especially because there's so much stuff in there that is from the previous owners that is not your style. I totally relate and understand how you feel. We recently moved into our house last year (it was empty, but dated) and initially I felt so overwhelmed with everything that I wanted to change about the house and got so frustrated with not having it match my style. I had to learn that it's just not possible to want everything to be perfect all at once and it will take many years to slowly accumulate furniture, decor and make it look how I want. But I had to learn after being unhappy for a long time, that I had to be grateful that we had this big house and a space that is our own. So hang in there Glory, allow yourself to see the beauty in your home, and slowly but surely, I believe that you can turn it into your dream home ❤️

You need to decorate your craft room, paint, put pictures up then you will want to keep it cleaner. You deserve a nice space for yourself. As for the rest of the house, you have kids, there will always be some clutter. Maybe every celebration they get gifts go thru there old stuff and get rid of the least played with toys then you wont just be adding more stuff. You guys are great, I love seeing how much happier Matt is, depression and anxiety are hard to deal with.

My tip for being declutter as someone who doesn’t have kids, but fuels her inner child by collecting things. If I have not touched (actually used, wore, enjoyed) it more than 3 times in the year I donate. And it doesn’t have to be the whole house every year at the same time. One month can be designated for Glory’s clothes, Kid toys, holiday decor, etc. Small changes everyday to see big differences later on. When it comes to donating things (regifting, going to a shelter, posting on FB marketplace) I like to keep in mind how much more I will acquire or be blessed with in the new year or even just a month from whenever I’m doing this. It’s like I’m creating space for different/new ideas. Also, not to diagnose anyone but to relate it to myself. I have adhd. Lots of the qualities you all struggle to find tools for remind me of myself (decluttering, cleaning, etc). I recommend my favorite tool someone taught me “don’t put it down, put it away” so instead of setting that random item down on the table to get it out of the way, or off the floor go put it where it is supposed to be. Find a home for everything in your space. And if you can’t find a place for it, maybe it is time to consider giving it a new home. Make sure everything in your space is serving you and your family wholefully.

This isn’t easy and trying to keep house with two young kids is even more difficult! Clutter always should have a psychological cause, just like i can’t keep an area clean (for the life of me) and my house looks a lot like yours. I think the key is figuring out why we want to purchase things and what steps we can take. Whether it’s creating a budget, a goal to de clutter these many things a day, etc. Loving these videos! I love how raw and real it is, makes me feel better and can relate to! Keep it going!

You can do it! As a mom of 2 toddlers (with baby 3 on the way), I crave a simplified home. I have been helped a lot by a few KZbinrs' channels - The Minimal Mom, Clutterbug, and the Secret Slob (Dana K White). My mindset has shifted a lot since starting my decluttering journey. I might also suggest starting your decoration despite some of the clutter struggle. We've moved 2 times in the last 2 years and having blank walls is SO unsettling. Grace and Peace!

My husband and I had the same issue. We went through all the kids toys and designate one spot for it. We donated through a center where they come to your house for FREE and take your donation away. Next we hired monthly CLEANERS! This was a must. Our cleaners would make a nice pile of stuff in the corner of each room and I would go through that pile. This minimize our bickering and stress and help us focus on decluttering the drawers. We started in June and now our last donation stuff is in the garage. Without the cleaners I would still be in the same spot as you both with daily cleaning and attempting decluttering.

Im not set on spring cleaning per say BUT, I do find myself going through each room at least once a year and donating what I really just don't use. With that, I try to be a "mindful" buyer by making sure that what I'm buying is genuinely something I need and not something I already have/could use without. If clutter seems to be an overall reoccurring problem for you guys, maybe having a closet on your main level with shelves and baskets could be a way to at least keep the clutter somewhat organized and in one space. Goodluck guys, can only imagine this is all easier said than done with two small kids but if you want to make some changes I know you have it in you! :)

Hey slice & Rice in my opinion if the house is messy its better to start cleaning it up even a small thing for example like Kids toys so from there you'll slowly learn and get used to cleaning because if u ignore the messy stuff on floor or other and then you're going to clean it later or tomorrow then the clutter will be added more since you guys have children, not saying to be perfect but its better if the house you're living are clean so the family will not be stress by it

It’s so easy to find yourself up to your eye balls in clutter. My turning point was after Marie Kondo had her Netflix special 😅😅. Every 6 months or so I take a hard look at my stuff, if I haven’t used it in the past 6 months (and it’s not sentimental) then it has to go. For your crafting room Glory, and I’m not sure how doable this would be for y’all but maybe make that your space only. No kids. Then you can keep it clean and have that space that you long for as your lil escape. Just a thought but keep it up! You’re doing great. ❤🎉

Great job. You made lots of progress! Something to be proud of because it is hard. The house seems a bit large for your small family right now, so it’s ok to not use up all the spaces or keep for example the sun room as a storage area. But with the intention in mind that you will continue growing your family slowly some more. Maybe you could include an indoor gross motor space for your kids to play that has padding and soft furnishings in case of rough and tumble play and accidents/ouches. You could put out and leave out play camping gear for your kids and yourself that would serve as a privacy area with a tent. I’m kind of just rambling but I am not the best at cleaning… it wears me out. Kuddos to you!

I mean the fact that you did your best is what is important. If you want to maintain a clean house I suggest testing out different cleaning routines where you focus on different "zones" of your house a day. That way the entire house won't be one big mess and at the end of the week you'd have less stress worrying about clutter. My grandmother is a hoarder and mum says Fly Lady's routine is the best for having a clean house that's not too strenuous on your mental seeing that cleaning everyday if you're not used to it can be daunting. Also I mentymy grandmother because we moved in with her and she constantly puts things out of place and refuses to get rid of items and having a cleaning schedule or routine has really helped us keep a semi tidy house. Apologies for any grammatical errors.

Glory, I felt every bit when you mentioned you came to a home with the last owners belongings. The house we're living in belonged to my in laws, and they left 75% percent of their belongings and were trying to fit ours... it's been 6 years living in the same house (with 2 girls now!) and we now have 25% of my inlaws stuff! We just keep finding more clutter and shoving it somewhere else! It's even harder with a bigger house 😭 take your time! Maybe once a week focus on one area in the house? The kitchen for example (me and my husband just started this last week!) Work on one or two cabinets a day. Maybe just take an hour to do it and either donate or throw away whatever needs to go!

Have a space for your children to play and have them choose 2 sets of toys to play with, and if they want to play with something different, have them put the other toy away to earn the new toy. Lastly, for your craft room, let it be that. It might seem harsh, but take out all the toys and items you don't use, and don't let your children play in that area. When you complete a project, any extra reusable items or materials are kept, and any scraps are thrown away. Hopefully, then it'll feel like an oasis. I hope this helps a little. Keeping a space clean is difficult.

De-cluttering is always a little daunting for me, but if I get in the zone, I can get a lot done. Like Glory said, have to be in the mood for it. Those sofas etc. are really beautiful, but don’t really seem to fit y’all’s space/decor. No tips right now‘cause I’m struggling with the same issue, but just some encouragement. Y’all really did get a lot done, so just keep at it bit by bit. These things tend to be a work in progress, so as long as you’re making progress…👌🏾☺️
