Dan Aykroyd’s original script for ghostbusters was for a company of paranormal experts that you could call up like you would call plumbers- ghosts were an accepted part of the world and dealing with them was a regular 9-5 job. Reitman and Ramis came in to re-write and they thought it was better to build up to that and see the guys start that business. With Afterlife and this it feels like we’re getting closer to Dan’s original pitch and I love that. Love that he’s still a part of it! I liked this movie I hope there are more

I love this movie. It honestly baffles me how much people I’ve seen seem to hate it. It’s pretty clear this new series is striking a different tone and I’m ok with that. I hope it managed enough interest to at least give us a trilogy and maybe finish out the old guys story on a high note.

This was super fun! It *was* a B movie, but so was the original Ghostbusters! People always forget that. None of our nostalgic favs were blockbusters, they were just fun and we fell in love with them as kids so we attached this massive weight to the movie. But it was just cheeseball stuff. We gotta let it be cheeseball stuff, that's what made them great. I'm so here for bringing back fun, well-written comedy adventure, popcorn movies.

Afterlife and Frozen Empire added so much lore to Ghosbusters to give it a breath of new life to the franchise. Also, I prefer the puffy over the crunchy Cheetos.

I saw this in theaters and loved it. I think the problem was that a lot of people wanted it to be on the same level as Afterlife when it didn't need to be. This was a great follow up to that movie and did a great job telling a stort centered around a new and original villain. My only complaint is that we didn't get a cameo from Rick Moranis as Lewis Tully(but I completely understand why it didn't happen).
@SteveODonnell2 ай бұрын
It was intentional that it felt like the cartoon, Gil and Jason loved it and wanted to bring elements in to the movies. Fun fact, when they built the firehouse set, every floor and ceiling has a large bit of different flooring and tiles due to the explosion in '84. Not really seen on screen but a great bit of detail. 🚫👻

I grew up in the 80s loving the first two Ghostbusters films and the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. I had all of the toys, the slime, the toy proton packs and traps, the cereal...you name it. This movie and "Afterlife" both captured the spirit (pun intended) of the original films, IMO. I hope they continue to make more! I did see this in the theater and it was amazing. The only thing I missed was Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis.

I know it's the kind of thing we never get with these franchises, but I really do think people would pay to just see "Adventure of the week" flicks with the Ghostbusters. Don't need the epic scenes and high stakes. I'm basically asking for the movies to be more like the cartoons, or a TV show, but I've made peace with that.
@MDestron22822 ай бұрын
For sure. The cartoon had plenty of great stories. The movies could be sorta like the Fast franchise but with actors. A big movie every few years with some core characters and a rotating cast. Have your Worldender Bigbad of the week. Boom. The fans are happy.

I absolutely love this movie, just like Afterlife It really feels like an 80s movie, with the themes it explores and taking its time to get there. Another proof that you can't trust critics. I should have watched this in the theater.

Afterlife was the movie that got me back into the theatres, I hadn't been to the movies in close to three years at that point. I went to see this one in theatres and some parts didn't connect for me but I really appreciate it and want more. I'm ready to get like an 8 to 10 episode season every few years or a movie every other year. I feel like Afterlife was just a love letter and partial apology for what they had been doing with the series up to that point and then this one was a solid entry that grew the lore and established what it could be. The kids are somewhat in there awkward teen phases, by the time they're older and we've spent the time to care about them we can get some really great stories. Really does feel like they're setting up this universe to lean into the staying power. If we're still here watching it and talking about it 40 years later, yeah. Just keep pushing. We'll be at half a century of Ghostbuster before you know it.

I'll start: 1) Millennium Falcon; 2) Batmobile; 3) Ecto-1; 4) The DeLorean; 5) The Enterprise. Roast me in the comments! EDIT: And try to guess how old I am!

@zombiepicnic96832 ай бұрын
I chalk up the lack of fun stuff to the hyperbolic internet age. Everything has to be either great or bad, because middle of the road, fun stuff doesn't drive the algorithm. John Candy made an entire career of infinitely watchable, fun movies. Will your life be forever changed by Who's Harry Crumb?, The Great Outdoors, or Delirious? Probably not, but an hour and a half spent smiling is a pretty damn good way to pass the time.
@Ubernerd30002 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason there’s so much mishugas about these movies is that there are 2 distinct groups of GB fans; the ones who loved the original movie, and the one who grew up on the Cartoon Series; the movie and the series were two completely different worlds, and I think this movie does a good job of bringing those worlds together; a lot of fans still want the dark, kinda cynical take of the first movie, which they got the ONE TIME and never got again; mainly because nobody, not even the people who made the movie, knows how it managed to happen, in the first place; GHOSTBUSTERS, as an IP, has been like this for most of it’s history; the movie is really kind of an outlier; I’d LOVE it if Sony got the rights to the Original Filmation Ghostbusters, and folded them into the mix, somehow, because they’ve just opened that door…

In the major showdown in the end, I kept wondering where Acaster was, expecting him to pop up when it looked the worst to help, but then he didn't show until after it was all over. the joke of him missing everything wasn't bad, i was just distracted during that last bit since i noticed he was gone. i could appreciate the last bit more on a rewatch bc of that.

Not that everyone is chomping at the bit to hear my take, but... I like a lot of the stuff in this movie, but the pacing and flow was disjointed and distracting. I think they should have tried to trim it down to a more focused 90 min movie. As it was, a lot of the characters just felt... extraneous. Or maybe keep it this length but rotate more to give the side characters more to do.

I saw it in theaters and was a little a little disappointed the majority of M Graces character time was about how she wasn't allowed to be a ghost buster, and then we have a rushed 'kindred spirits' thing with the 'little matchstick girl'. while we gave maybe too much time to the bumbling fire bender. but you guys being enthusiastic and enjoying it has made me see it in a less critical way. it's a good 'episode' of ghostbusters with worldbuilding and lore expansion, it doesn't have to be a 'blockbuster' movie. in fact trying to make blockbusters could be trying too hard, and not letting it just be what it is... Ghostbusters.

Adam is totally right, we don't need the original cast anymore. I think it's completely fine if Winston and Ray show up now and then since they have an actual role to play (Winston being the boss and Ray some sort of advisor), together with Venkman they could also act as some sort of substitute grandfathers to Phoebe and Trevor. But if it comes to the action part they shouldn't be active members. I love Bill Murray but he felt a little misplaced in this movie.
