Your storytelling on this one was next level outstanding. The KZbin tile telegraphed a tire issue. The opening was a great point in time teaser for things to come. You lulled us with a nice cooking demo along with the sketchy red truck…..then hit us at the end with a catastrophic wheel loss. I really appreciated your openness on the initial shock reaction in not believing your eyes….thats exactly how most of us would react. Bravo!

We had this happen to us. We were stunned as much as you. Ended up having a commercial truck repair company change out the axel. To expedite the process, we picked up the Dexter axel in LA and brought it back. We had recently had the barring pack, and no one ever figured out why it failed. We had air bag suspension and were able to limp into a remote town. We never felt a thing. A trucker told us we lost the wheel.

You should all walk around and feel the center cap on the wheels with every stop to see if there's excessive heat.with doing that would have for sure prevented this from happening. Just my 2 cents .

Per one other person mentioned, your low fuel mileage was due to the wheel bearing going out, basically like a brake on one wheel continually on, till it finally blew out. I always check each wheel every so often to check if a bearing is heating up (lack of grease or too tight/loose). Be careful as a wheel hub could get red hot, and checking the wheel/rim first to see if it's hotter then check the hub if you feel it is different then than others. A IR gun will do the same to check each hub. It could have been worse!! Now a little back tracking you might be able to find the rim/tire?

The fact that the axle is still smoking means it happened within 10-20 miles or less from when you noticed the issue. I can relate as in 2023 had a similar incident that layed us up for 36 hours in Wisconsin. I replaced all 4 rims and tires as it was discovered the previous owner cheaped out and used the wrong rim size plus load range C tires instead of the required load range D. Also replace all the leaf springs as one set was destroyed when the tire failed. Did all the repairs myself except tire mounting. Fun times....... NOT!

I saw that flapping fender and chuckled a bit, we lost a fender in the South Dakota wind just to the west of Sioux City and it was all déjà vu until you got to the missing hub and tire! Wow~! Looks like the outer bearing seized, still a bit puzzled how the entire hub assembly came off but left the brake caliper in place. Glad the rig handled that severe of a blow out without it becoming catastrophic, and glad that (apparently) the tire zinged off into a field somewhere without causing damage to anyone else! Small blessings!

@@okinawadonkichiAbsolutely always, go back and find the missing wheel. Depending on the warranty or insurance situation, having the part that came off of your vehicle in your possession could make or break your coverage. You also don’t know what that loose wheel hit, or your responsibility for damages if you write it off as lost and someone can connect you to it later. I’ve got 25 years in the RV business. So much for TPMS. This is why I have 2 cameras under the chassis so while driving I can inspect all 6 tires from the cab. The trailer axle is also easier to parts in an emergency like this than the Morryde Independent Suspension. Drums and bearings can be found all over, a complete ISS and rotor.... good luck!

I thought you guys had the wheel bearings serviced. If not, one thing I do is always check your wheel hubs for excessive temperatures when we stop. Waik around the trailer and feel your rims close to the lug nuts. An inexpensive heat gun can make that easy to monitor. I'm surprised your tire monitor didn't show a temp increase in the tire! Hopefully the spindle was ok!.

I have returned a few because it was below 32% urethra. ....def stored at 72° shelve life there's a chart available for that on web. ....IF YOU ADD "DEF" DURING the SUMMER MONTHS with alot of def in tank like topping it off you stand the change of diluting % below 32%. Winter months not so much.

I feel your pain. We were on our way to the Oshkosh Airshow this summer, and stopping for our niece's baby shower. Another car passed us and pointed to the back wheel. We immediately stopped. One of the bearings had failed. Smoke was coming out of the hub. We could have had a fire! Anyway, it was a Sunday, and we got a wrecker to take the trailer to an RV dealer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It needed a whole new axle! Or course, they couldn't get one for 3 weeks!! Instead of staying with relatives for 3 weeks, flying home (we had a 12 pound cat), or renting a hotel room, we decided to cut our losses and drive back to Arizona. Then, We had to drive all the way back to get it and basically ruined our summer. But, that's not the end of the story. When we came back to get it, we found out they had one of the new Alliance 23MLs coming in. So, we drove all the way back home only to get a call later that it was on it's way there. So, we worked out a trade, and pulled it all the way back to Iowa... again!! Still not the end of the story.. While on the way back, we lost a trailer tire in NE Kansas! I was walking around the trailer checking tire pressures, and saw the rim, with no tire... There was no other damage, thankfully, but... We ended up buying a new truck from our nephew, a new 5th wheel, and driving two trucks back to Arizona. And that is the story of our 2024 summer!

We drive to Ohio from Oregon at least once every year. I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, just East of Rapid City, for 5 years and we now stop in the Custer area in the Blackhills for a couple of weeks when we pass through. The predominant winds come from the North and West and can be quite strong. Also traveling West on I-90 you are actually going uphill the entire time (I know -it looks flat). So your mileage will suffer due to head winds and uphill travel. I have a 2020 GMC Denali dually diesel long bed crew cab with a Host Mammoth Truck camper. I’ve actually had the camper shift/twist in the bed from the strong winds. Should you get to spend some time in the Blackhills be sure to checkout the Crazyhorse Memorial. It’s definitely worth the price of admission. Safe travels from beautiful Oregon!!

We pulled over and saw we were missing the rear tire (like you), and all of the lug nut bolts were stripped off. Always always always go by the pressure on the tire sidewall. I have extensive tire experience so I'm telling you to run maximum air pressure stated on the sidewall of the tire. That's what holds the load. The tire is simply an air bladder. And a good rule of thumb is to trash ST (special trailer) tires all together and install LT ( light truck) tires. I could go on and on about this. Great video ❤❤❤

So sorry for your bad day. The TPMS is operating normally. It only reports pressure out od range and high temp. Not if the sensor is out of range. You could park your rig and go shopping with the truck and the TPMS will not complain if it can not communicate with the sensor. The outer bearing and probably the inner bearing failed causing the axel nut to come off loosing the rotor and attached wheel. The axel is most likely toast which will require a new MorRyde axel arm assembly. This will have to be special ordered from MorRyde. Since it is not field repairable it will have to be taken to a repair shop. Possibly you could tow it very slowly as the remaining wheel is over loaded. I suspect that the axel nut was over tightened or the axel nut's locking element was left off. Check the other three wheels. By the time you read this you will probably have had it serviced and are on your way. Safe travels.

I would definitely be contacting the TPS company to better understand why it didn't alarm you for the loss of signal and high temps in the tire. My Tire Minder TPS seems to be really slow to react to loss of signal, but it does let me know if temps are too high. Also, something that has saved me is using an IR temp gun to quickly check wheel bearing temps on all wheels every time we stop. On a few occasions, I was able to spot a wheel running much hotter than the rest due to the castle nut being too tight and / or a bearing issue well before it failed.

We had the exact same thing happen to us in Wall South Dakota in November. We were stuck there for 6 days waiting on parts from Morryde.

I lost a wheel like that once on a large boat trailer. After trying unsuccessfully to get it fixed nearby, on a Sunday, and then spending the night, and again failing on Monday to find a place that could fix it, I ended up driving a few hundred miles on it (carefully, checking and greasing the remaining wheel every 30 miles or so) to get home, and eventually getting a local machine shop to weld on a new axle. Crazy! I had greased the trailer wheels before I left on the trip, but apparently water got in the hub while lauching/retrieving the boat. Others told me that happens a lot, when the water heats up and displaces the grease, then the bearing goes. But obviously, you weren't submerging your trailer wheels in water!

I also have one of those TPMS on my trailer. This summer my axle broke and I lost the tire and brake drum and the TPMS did not show anything. Luck I used my dash cam to pin point where it happened and was able to find my tire in the ditch.

I love Cracker Barrel's Meat Loaf, Cooked Apples and really like their Slaw, I get this same order plus their green beans every time i eat there...After watching your video to the end, that rear hub on your trailer could have been causing a great Drag on your Truck...

OK, your losing your entire wheel clinched my decision to get the replacement bearing replacement washer RV Gear and Far talked about as a preventive measure to keep the wheel on the spindle even with catastrophic bearing failure as you experienced. They are slightly larger bearing washers that replace the main bearing washer under the castle nut. By being slightly larger the washer keeps the wheel on the RV, even with a complete failure as you had. They are a bit pricy, but you get a set and are very easy to install. So I will be buying a set! From your video, with the still smoking rear bearing, that looks dry by the way, it does look like bearing failure to me. However, not being there, and arm chair quarterbacking, hopefully you found out what actually happened and we will know next week! In April 2023 we were heading east to Elkhart, and to MorRyde to get our Independant Suspension installed at MorRyde. We stayed at the exact Cracker Barrel you stayed at in Souix City, and parked in the exact same place you did, along the street at that intersection. We had called along the way and found out you could stay there. When we got there the designated area for RVS, as you mentioned, wasn't the best and out 34 foot 5th wheel wouldn't fit, so my wife went in and asked and we were told anyplace in their parking lot was fine so we parked where you did. Our 5th wheel has two slides on the drivers side so we just parked close to the curb and had our slide outs over the grass. With the complete wheel loss, I was wondering if the Independant Suspension arm hit the ground with no wheel to hold it up. Could you say if it cleared or ground on the pavement? Definitely an accident we'd rather not experience!

Sorry about this disaster, definitely a heart stopper! Thankfully your RV handled so well that you did not even notice this. We have a regular mobile RV tech that services our Trailer, but since yours is new, not sure this would have helped. I hope you were able to take care of this with minimal hassle, and enjoy South Dakota (which is where our decades long best friend lives).

Check out hub saver it's basically a hardened washer that's bigger than the washer that's on the axle, and if you have that same problem again it will keep the Hub from coming off. I put it on my trailer, and my buddy put it on his Alliance fifth wheel👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I found going west - usually against the wind - I found my mph reduced a lot, and going east with the wind increased mph. Just my observations who has gone coast to coast 5 times over the almost 4 years full- timing in fifth wheel. Safe travels. Heading west end of next month to be in San Diego by April.

When you are towing a brick wall out west with 15-20 mph west winds hitting you in the face then 7-9mpg is all you are going to get with a 6.7l dually. I haul campers for a living so that is what I usually average.

"It's kind of windy". Welcome to southern Minnesota/South Dakota. Living in Iowa, we've traversed I-90 multiple times. There is always a strong wind from the south...unless of course it's winter then there's a strong wind from the North, but either way it is ALWAYS windy!!

It happens. Makes for a good story! :) I have a 5th-wheel brand that typically has the Morryde suspension like that and have seen several stories of it happening, but I can't say whether it happens more or less with the Morryde IS. The wheel components (bearings, etc.) are the same as other axles. Happened to me and I was stuck in Twin Falls, ID, in the winter (!), but Morryde was incredible and shipped me the whole axle assembly, pre-assembled with caliper and disk, by two-day fedex. I installed it myself, after buying a few tools. Can't tell from the video, but if the threads at the end of the spline are messed up, or if the spindle is otherwise damaged, you have to replace the whole assembly. Otherwise I assume you can just replace bearings and hub (and wheel and tire, and maybe caliper) and be back on the road. We actually retraced our steps and found our wheel/hub alongside the freeway. We also were irritated with the TPMS, but they don't seem to report "loss of signal". We had the valve stem version and after this I changed to an internal sensor in the hope that it would better catch a temperature rise next time. But I'm not convinced there would always be a warning, either from TPMS or from physical inspection. It seems to me that it if gets warm enough to notice, it is going to fail pretty quickly. Things happen. My incident happened on a relatively new rig with less than 5000 miles. Morryde sent the new parts under warranty, at no charge to me.

We traveled across I-90 pulling our 5er with a RAM 3500 DRW into the near constant wind and averaged the same 7.5-8.5 mpg-sure makes the factory fuel tank feel awfully small. We also almost lost a fender due to the wind, stopping along the way to zip tie everything back into place. Hopefully the repairs didn’t take long and you were able to easily get a new hub and brake disk. You’ll definitely want to tear down the rest of your wheel hubs to inspect and repack bearings.

That tire and wheel fail is different to what we are all used to seeing. Good luck with getting that fixed. For your Mpg issue, I use a diesel additive to improve fuel efficiency and mileage highly recommend! We are also full time RVers and has helped keep my Nissan Titan with the Cummins engine running smoothly
