Put an Ammo can on the trailer for Ed to store his straps and a gas can holder on the other side.. set him up before you paint it again! Also, the side plates help but you should really gusset the toungue on that thing.

I think the ramp should be as wide as the trailer, it allows the rider to put a foot down while loading it. I feel like it's a safety issue especially since Ed is going to be loading it, and is getting older.

I agree and a small boat winch is an easy way to lift the gate for Ed without him having to bend down to pick it up. But it can be modified later as Ed shouldn't be kept waiting. I think the Suzuki should have AC too but after it is presented to Ed

Some light fixture "jack chain" would be nice for the ramp clips. Need to put a restraint on rear wheel to keep it from bouncing/creepin side to side, most mc trailers have a c-channel for tires to fit in that helps prevent that.

@ Robby Layton Warning, I see a future accident taking place with Ed unloading the bike. The ramp should have been wider, when an elderly man like Ed goes to back the bike off the trailer, he will have no where to put his feet as he comes off the trailer onto the ramp, his feet, for a moment can't touch the ground while backing down the ramp. This would be solved by a wider ramp, perhaps even covered in wire mesh expanded mental to help keep the weight down., or perhaps even build the ramp assembly out of Aluminum to make it light for Ed to handle. PS, you and your team do some Awesome work, thanks for sharing with us.

Robbie: The best thing you do (along with most of the good tubers) you admit to your mistakes. That means that, while we watch you fix the paint, we know that you really want it done right. Also you won't make that mistake again. There is nothing worse than someone trying to hide their mistakes, or find blame somewhere else. So when the day comes that I need the big paint job, I know that it is worth the drive to go to your shop and have the work done. @bigredc222
@bigredc222 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking a full width gate would be safer, and it would also make the trailer more useable. You could put a little tractor or quad, and a ton of other things on it if it had a full width gate.
@georgecook960
@georgecook960 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking it could possibly be a weight thing. I know a solid metal gate on the back would make it stand up when they unhooked it from the truck. They probably dont have the time (or weight capacity) to counterbalance the trailer for a large gate.

Just an observation: Every time you load and unload the bike you cut the video. That exact point is where I can see a challenge for Ed as he might not be agile enough and his legs not long enough to reach the ground. Maybe a wider ramp? Or maybe it’s actually not an issue?

I was more thinking that it’s hard to drive any two wheeled vehicle slow and keep the balance, the older you get, the harder it gets. As the current ramp is a ladder type, it will be a bit bumpy to drive on. Maybe this all is not an issue as Ed will always go driving with someone and can get support? I just want to have him around as long as possible.

I had a utility trailer blasted and painted a few summers ago and it failed similarly. The shop blamed it on the high heat and humidity and immediately offered to re-do it. I couldn't take them up on it because I needed the trailer in service immediately through the summer and fall. The guy I usually deal with told my the owner wanted to see me in his office. He REALLY wanted to fix it. I told him that I appreciated that but couldn't afford the downtime. We reached a satisfactory arrangement whereby I used it for the rest of the season, disassembled it and dropped it off in December to re-do at their convenience. I appreciate shops that stand by their work.

As long as they put straps on each side of the rear forks, it will stay in place. We always used a minimum of 6 straps, 2 in back and 4 in front, down low on the forks right above the fender, not compressing the forks. They are doubled up in front for insurance, in case one broke or came loose. Learned this delivering $30k-$40k Harleys in enclosed trailers and helping friends/family move cross country. The main issue I see is it needs strapped from the forks, not the handlebars. As a motorcycle tech I've had to replace A LOT of bent bars and rebuild blown out fork seals from people using them as tie down points in trucks and trailers .

As a full time wrench turner and a YT painter I feel the pain involved in having to do things over, and over again. Story time with a professional toolbox........ Did a rebuild on a bike. Pulled the fuel tank and set it down only to realize the seal on the fuel filler was bad and let fuel leak and seep into the tiny chip in the decal that was on the tank. 2 days later the fuel found it's way through the decal and under the paint on the tank and the entire decal lifted down to the metal. A week after that my attempt at repainting the tank and stuffing a $125 decal back on the clear coat decided to protest my efforts. $300 dollar job turned into $800 of my attempt to do the right thing. Robby, A good option to keep the factory hitch from flopping up and down while riding is to sleeve the chain with a piece of pipe.....pvc works great on mine. Awesome job and kudos to your whole team. Hope all of the KZbinrs involved in this project can come together again for another charity build !!!!

While you are going to repaint the trailer. I would like to make a suggestion. The inside of the fenders are open. Put a piece of metal and close it. This will protect the bike from rocks and mud. It will make it a whole lot nicer.

Live and learn Robby. Your positive attitude is so refreshing. Plus nobody noticed the hoop was too small all along. Plus you improved and fixed some other things in it. This trailer is the ultimate Rokon hauler. You guys rock!

Good work. Suggestion…when you load a motorcycle, you need a firm foothold all the way up. It would not hurt to make the ramp wide enough for Ed to “walk it up”. Watch a few videos of motorcycle loading fails. Don’t look too closely. I may be in one.

You should make a full width ramp for the back of the Rokon trailer. That way if Ed needed to use it for something else, he could.

Robby you and the crew are hands down the number one video's on my watch list, it's the professionalism- education- humor with some no a bit ok a lot of craziness! It's a lot of work you all go through with a ton of behind the scenes and in front that continually interrupt what would be normal work in the shop seriously that's for everything you all do...

You guys need to have something for Ed to put his feet on to be able to balance going up the ramp. If he gets unbalanced on the ramp, there is a long way to fall and get hurt. A suggestion would be a wooden extension on each side of the ramp.

attach your pins to the straps for the ramp so they don't get misplaced during loading and unloading. Suggest a short length of small chain or maybe some cable.

Some strips of anti-skid on those boards would be a good idea, or add pumice to a final coat of finish to make walking on those boards with wet shoes or boots much safer. The anti-skid strips are available in Lowes and Home Depot. Ed will surely fall if he walks on those and they are wet or mud covered. This is a wonderful gift for Ed. I'm certain that he will really appreciate all you and the guys have done for him.

I suggest that you attach some small cables to the cotter pins that hold the braces for the back ramp so that don't get lost quickly. they could be attached to the ram to stay with it. You might even get the type that have a fold over ring that helps secure then when pinned. Then just attach a small length of stainless cable to the ring.

I'm extremely impressed that you aired your paint mistake, most would have fixed it without showing everyone what happened. This should give people confidence in your work ethic. And as a Harley guy myself, tell hillbilly it will come, family first, finances will come when it's time. The wind doesn't care what flavor bike you ride.

Those new clips/pins for the ramp straps should be attached to keeper / safety wires so as to not be lost when out in the wild or when loading/unloading in the dark. Those little clips are just waiting for their first opportunity to get free and be lost forever and they will do that at the most inconvenient time in the most inconvenient place.

One thing I have to give you credit for is that you do take pride in all your work! I wish more business owners (managers) would do the same as you do. It may take a little longer, and a little more cost to you but doing it correct before it leaves the shop will normally ALWAYS bring back repeat customers and most of all it helps word of mouth referrals.
