It was Barry’s brother Robin who opened the song. You can hear more of Robin’s distinctive voice in their breakthrough hit of 1968,”Massachusetts”. He sadly passed away in 2012 and is buried in our local town of Thame ( pronounced Tame) Oxfordshire, England. The BeeGees’ music runs a thread through my music awakening in the early sixties to this day . Keep doing what you are doing. Loving you’re hair Amber🇬🇧

Maurice instinctively knew (no training!) how to add his voice to the three-part harmony and give it that magical quality. A fantastic example of their slow build in harmony is in "Run to Me" -- once Maurice joins, it is just sublime. Would you guys please react to that one? Aside from being a gorgeous song, it is a clear showcase of the voices of all three of them. (Here's a link to a recommended video for that song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iabFYYJop5xphNk)

For FEMALE FRIDAY: Carole King is a must!! Her album Tapestry was in the top charts for over 6 years!!! Try “It’s Too Late” or “I Feel The Earth Move”. Carole co-wrote over 130 top 40 hits in the 60s with her ex husband Gerry Goffin. Her song “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman” is considered one of Aretha Franklin’s greatest hits, and “You’ve Got A Friend” is one of James Taylor’s biggest hits. Both are on Tapestry.

This came out in 1971 and why you HAVE to listen to the Bee Gees from the 60's. The 60's songs sound more like this, what you've listened to so far from the Bee Gee's is Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The beginning is sung by Robin, and why I feel you should listen to Robin on lead, in songs like "Massachusetts", "I Started a Joke", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", and "I've Got to Get a Message To You", to name a few. Suggestion for 1 song sang by 2 different artist , try "Kiss" written and preformed by Prince, then covered by Tom Jones. You can't pick a favorite.

To Love Somebody, Words . . . is there another group or single person who's had a comparable career spanning decades, who've written so many songs -- for themselves and so many others? And who can move you to tears with those voices?

Actually Robin is the ONLY BROTHER with vibrato and it is something you have or don't have. It is controlled by the central nervous system on the vocal chords and is a rapid fire alteration in PITCH like AC current. He can go from A to A# to A to A# to A in a millisecond and doesn't even try to. It's natural. Barry uses tremolo which is singing a note in a single pitch but varying VOLUME. They are totally different but can be mistaken for the same thing. Tremolo can be learned. Vibrato cannot be learned. All three could sing falsetto, "false voice", which is singing unnaturally high above tenor for a man. Yes, Barry said Robin had a gift and it took him no effort to sing like he did. Many singers copy Barry's falsetto and tremolo by his own admission but nobody can cover Robin's iconic leads and avoid trying.

@@trinkab - It is "debatable" I suppose but any debate can go both ways, aye or nay. A pure natural vibrato is a gift in the opinion of many who analyze voice. Barry said Robin had it with no effort at all. I don't believe Barry ever claimed to have vibrato in his own voice. Never heard it in Maurice's or Andy's voices either although both had lovely voices. Someone who consciously attempts to learn it will never have the same quality as someone with a pure natural vibrato. I can't carry a tune in a bucket and no amount of voice lessons will ever make me Linda Ronstadt. I wish! Just like taking guitar lessons won't make everyone Eric Clapton. 😁

Robin had a unique voice with that tremolo, yet when they sang together, his voice didn't stick out. The advantage of being brothers, is part of it, but there's a different technique to singing a solo compared to singing with others. I think it was Barry from the first chorus on. I love both voices. The falsetto thing didn't start until the late 70s. I think "Nights on Broadway" was the first time Barry tried it.

Just to be clear: This is a Bee Gees song that Al Green later covered. If you're going to delve into early Bee Gees, here are a few must-listens: "Words," "To Love Somebody," "Massachusetts," "Lonely Days," to name a few. To some of us, their pre-Saturday Night Fever stuff is SO much better! The voice singing lead at the beginning of this song is Robin (the one on the left in the album cover seen in the image on screen). There are parts that Barry sings lead. To hear Al Green at his best, listen to him doing "Let's Stay Together." One of the greatest R&B songs ever recorded. Classic.

This song reminds me of the saddest day in my life. This was the #1 song for 1971. I had been discharged out of the service and was living with my fiance and her daughter. Her family was very religious and wanted her to go back with her first husband for the church. I came ho.e from work to find her, her daughter and ex-husband in a Uhaul truck getting ready to drive away. I was heartbroken. I decided to drive to my parents' house, which was about an hour away. Every station I changed the radio to was playing this song. I must have heard part of it at least ten times. I was devastated. It took me a while but I never forgot. It ended up she was pregnant with my oldest daughter. My daughter and I found each other years later and have become very close. Family is everything.

Yes, I can't believe you haven't done "Nights on Broadway" yet. In my mind, it's the quintessential Bee Gee's song, as it sits at the inflection point of their career, with equal elements of their early ballad-biased work and their later disco sound. You get a good dose of Robin's unique voice, Barry's natural "husky" sound, the prototypical Bee Gees harmony, along with a taste of Barry's first foray into his falsetto.

Robin Gibbs vocals stood out even in the Bee gees Harmony. There's two terms you can apply to his style of singing, vibrato or, tremolo. Which is a very fast repetition of a single note to produce shivering and a shaking effect. Robin does it effortlessly. It sounds as if he's singing in front of a slow spinning fan. Other songs that feature his unique vibrato are, I've got to get a message to you, I started a joke, odessa, lamp light, saved by the bell, and my favorite by Robin, Massachusetts.

The Bee Gees are the only group that I love every song! I like some of everyone else. Thank you SO MUCH for listening to them with an open mind. They wrote and recorded over a thousand songs, so you have a lot of delight coming your way! 💜👏🤗

There are several songs where Barry is not the lead singer. Great songs with Robin as lead: I Started a Joke and Alone. Great songs with Maurice as lead singer: Closer Than Close and Walking On Air. All 3 of them are so amazing!

Please do Arron Neville’s song “Tell It Like It Is”. You’ll love his voice, none like it one of a kind….

Aaron has many I’d like them to react to. Neville Brothers, too. Music royalty of New Orleans.

You two will love their special concert they filmed. It's titled: One Night Only: The Bee Gees in Las Vegas. It is fantastic. This song is tremendous as well as a tune called Words and Massachusetts. All of the Robin Gibb songs on vocals are early in their career.

As a huge Bee Gees fan, I think your ultimate reaction should be to react to the entire "One Night Only" concert. Even if you had to split the reaction into 2 or 3 videos. I would love to see your reaction & I'm sure many followers would too. You would love that concert.

You should do an even earlier Bee Gees song, To Love Somebody off their first album in 1967. It was originally written for Otis Redding, but he died before he could record it.

Different artists. Both brilliant. That’s what is so magical about music.

This song transports me back to 1972 seeing the BeeGees perform it live in concert. It's been fifty years and I can still see our boys in all their glory.

I am really happy that you did a reaction to this song.... this was a treat . As a Gen X is it really great to see our younger generations appreciating music from our time and before . You two have such a great time with a very eclectic range of music it is amazing and I appreciate your channel very much. Thank you for this .
