So, I noticed something, you bred her with Mr SYG and Orange Creamsicle (hypo patternless). So I think Orange Creamsicle is the dad. This was discussed in "An unfortunate clutch from our bullsnakes" released on 5/24, at 1:15 you mention O.C. but say you didnt see much breeding behavior, so you didnt suspect that going anywhere. The double clutch was just Mr. SYG.

@LadyLithias2 жыл бұрын
I agree. It would also make more sense numerically, if she's het patternless, and he was patternless, then you'd expect roughly 1/2 of the babies to be patternless. I'm not sure if a snake who double-clutches would have the second clutch necessarily be the second daddy, but not at all knowledgeable about it.

To anyone curious about the passed baby snake: Its organs developed on the outside of its body, lungs, heart, liver, stomach, guts-- all of it. Its skull was deformed and squished as if someone had ran it over. To top it all off it had at least 5 kinks in its spine with a major one that made the body LITERALLY turn V shaped, alongside with some seemingly fused scales. Baby didn't have a fighting chance but is at rest now.

@@MichealJacksom we don’t really know. It’s just something that sometimes happens with snakes. It’s a survival of the fittest kind of thing and sometimes just happens. It’s very normal for it to happen to one of the babies in most snake clutches. If it doesn’t happen, that’s amazing, but it’s just part of breeding snakes and most reptiles really. Inbreeding can make it more likely or if there’s something wrong with either of the parents, but usually it’s just a wild and sad coincidence. Hope this helps?

I used to work with incubators for bacteria growing reasons, and we were always warned about overfilling the incubator because it would hinder air flow and mean the insides wouldn't be a uniform temperature. That might be why you're noticing longer incubation times and split clutches not hatching together. Now that you have the bigger incubator, that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Didn't you pair Shakira with your het patternless? You state that you did in your "Unfortunate Bullsnake Clutch" video, and that would mean that Mr. Steal Your Girl could still be het Axanthic, and that the het patternless is in fact proved out as het patternless (or was he patternless, which would make more sense, as you got 50% patternless) I'm sure I'm not the only one to point this out, but thought that I'd share that.
@baka_yu93432 жыл бұрын
Orange Creamsicle (the other one they mentioned in that video but apparentely forgot about putting with her) is actually a hypo patternless. Someone else already said it, but the more people that mention it, the higher the chances they might actually see it.
@LadyLithias2 жыл бұрын
@@baka_yu9343 Thank you. Hypo Patternless makes far more sense for Shakira's mate than anything. I'm guessing they've seen the comments, and that they'll mention it, or "theatrically realize it" on the hatching video of Shakira's second clutch. I think that the "organized me" that cringed when they changed Mr. SYG's tag will not feel good about this situation until his "het axanthic" is restored. They could put PH Patternless, just in case. But I think that the only real surprise het that they absolutely proved out was that Shakira is het Patternless. If they have an axanthic female, they have to breed Mr. SYG to her just to settle the debate entirely. :) Goes to show that you don't have to see them do the deed for the deed to be done! Although when I bred Kingsnakes, I would never leave them together. I would put them together, wait until the deed was done, and then remove them. As Kingsnakes eat snakes as their normal diet, I had no desire to have one well-fed snake in the bin the next morning!

Of course, you're going to have to keep the one of the patternless ones (I vote for the chill one). So, either both parents unknowingly carry the gene or it was a spontaneous mutation. But having more than one makes me think the parents carry it.
@ettinakitten50472 жыл бұрын
For a recessive gene, it's very unlikely that a surprise visually evident appearance of it would be a new mutation. You'd need to either simultaneously have mutations in both copies of the same gene (extremely unlikely) or have a baby who should've been het by parentage end up mutating the other gene as well (more likely but still very unlikely). New mutations of recessive genes are generally completely invisible until you happen to inbreed the descendants of the mutant.

Those patternless babies are going to be gorgeous when they're all grown up! Though of course the rest of the baby bulls will be too. ❤️

I just want you to know that my 3-year-old son has begun requesting to watch "the baby snakes" aka your hatching videos so now I'm just rewatching videos of yours that I've already seen because he really wants to see the baby snakes again 😆

Really appreciate you guys having the egg dissection up for free! It's sad the little guy didn't make it but at least it wasn't a healthy baby that passed away for some unknown reason, he definitely wasn't meant to be. With the organs on the outside, that's actually the same thing that happened with the blue beauty egg dissection iirc? It's still extremely interesting and a learning opportunity so I thank you for it. I hope the other babies grow up nice and healthy!

This is awesome but I feel kinda left out with not seeing the unhatched one and why it possibly didn't hatch. I've been watching since they just had a few racks in the place before their current house but I'm not able to support the Patreon when I have trouble affording necessities for my family. The science of breeding is so interesting to me.

Ok, so can anyone describe what snake babies smell like? I’m always so curious about it when Emily and Ed mention it.

I love how it's an equal mix of both that are fiesty and chill. Two patterned ones are calm and like Idk those fiesty siblings along with that one patternless noodle. While two of the patternless ones and one patterned one'is like "bite or fight"🤣 the honking and striking backwards is absolutely priceless
