I think Pat made 2 crucial mistakes - Not healing his Volt Aborb Staraptor in an incoming electric move from Miradon. Instead got sacked by Ice Shard. - Not Tera fighting Aura Sphere Mamo after knowing it had Ice Scales. Instead wasting it on a tera that didnt get the job done.

What about going through the Generations, spinning a wheel for numbers 1-8, whatever number it lands on, you choose a Pokemon from the Gym Leader relating to that number, build a team and then battle? For example, start in Gen 1, wheel spin lands on 4, you pick a Pokemon from Erica's Team Lockout style so if you both land the same number you can't pick the same Pokemon
