Vets over here,UK, recommend using straw in outdoor cat houses, they like to move the straw to how they want it, kinda like a nest , its also warmer, a blanket can get wet if the cat gets wet , in the winter can take a long time to dry , it can even freeze over making it super cold for the cat so apparently straw is a better option.

Another way you could upgrade Bo’s abode is to put a cat flap on the front. That way his house will be windproof in the winter and stay at a more consistent temperature inside.

Get some roofing felt and cover the top of Bo's house. Add a little porch and a tiny deck. He is beautiful and deserves the best.

Anna, you are absolutely a cat mum now. I’ve had cats all by 55 years and I can read them like a book. Bo has adopted you both but he’s very taken with you what with jumping on your shoulders to rub his face on your head and settling down on your lap. He’s a lovely affectionate lad and it’s great he gets on so well with Maggie and Charley.

I have a cat and he lives indoors, but he isn't exclusively an indoor cat. He has the freedom to go outside whenever he pleases - and does so. Where he sleeps in the house is up to him. He has a cradle that hangs on the central heating radiator and he also has an "igloo" which is nicely padded. But he has only used either of these a few times, he tends to have a "flavour of the month" when it comes to somewhere to "crash out," and spends only two to three weeks at a time in each of several locations around the house. When it comes to sleeping, it's fine outside for Bo during the summer months but it's hellish cold during winter - and what's to stop a snake investigating his little shelter. And what's to prevent an extremely high wind (such as those that America is prone to get) whipping it up and blowing it away - with Bo inside it.

The roof needs to be hinged not least so you can get in and clean it, or when he goes looking for females and is hit by a car or shot and he drags himself home, a hinged roof will enure you can help him without trying to drag him out through the little hole.

@mark.r it depends on the weather. Mine have a cat flap so they choose when they want to come and go. If it's fair weather they will be out more, but they still sleep a lot inside. When the weather is cold, or windy, rainy etc. They go out for a quick pee or whatever and they're back inside. I've had cats all my adult life, 30+ years and they're all the same.

Please use straw, as straw is for strays and hay is for horses. Straw doesn't get wet or rot and repels moisture, therefore keeping him warm and dry. 😊I am a cat mum to a blue eyed ginger boy myself.

Alter the roof on the cat box so it’s removable and put roofing felt over it…. Then you can get in there and give it a clean out from time to time, also you might need to gain access if the cats not well and won’t come out…. Pond….. Use a laser level to work out how far up your hill/slope it could go, then dig out that space, leaving a dam between the existent pond and the new extension. You can then dig the extension a deep as you want it to be, then remove the dam, allowing the water to flood into the new area. This should initially drain the existing pond and allow you to dig that area out before it starts to fill up, the existing pond wouldn’t need to be as deep as the extension would be deeper anyway and you’d want different depths….

Hey guys, please don’t loose the trees around the pond. What if you dug a channel instead to the other pond and then you could build a beautiful little bridge with your newly purchased nail gun. It would be a great spot to watch the various fish you plan to get. Love to all 5 of you. ❤❤❤

JT that is an excellent cat house...really solid!. We'll done. Just a thought but If you had put two heavy hinges attaching the roof to the house part you would be able to openedthe roof it by lifting it up and you can then periodically clean out the cat house, lay new warm bedding ie blanket, old towel in it for your gorgeous cat. I have fell in love with you and Anna. You are both such a lovely couple and it is a joy to watch you setting up home, watching Anna's reactions to the Highland Cow gifts etc in your box openings. Love the baking videos too. Just keep being yourselves. Big hugs to you both. Sandra, your No1 Fan from Liverpool (UK) xx

Why do you need to get rid of all the trees, I think it would be a big mistake, they act as a natural wind break. I would maybe take out one or two so you will have easy access to both of your ponds, but don't remove them all.

@Immhotep 2 ай бұрын
You don't need to remove the tree line. Please keep it. But you could create a much bigger pond, and dig down the bank you were filming on deep and maybe do a pontoon deck/firepit island.

Why not dig the natural line you pointed to to expand. Make that deeper and leave the existing pond shallow. That way you'll have a natural dam while you dig. Then you can break it down to fill up when you're done digging,for your fish when you get them Ps re- caulk the cat house roof and then cover it in roofing felt for extra protection. You can build a small raised garden for on top so Anna has a herb box right next to the door for cooking

It's obvious that you are very animal and nature friendly, Bo seems very happy in his current living situation so I think you are making the correct decision and that he'll be very happy with his living arrangements. Cats can be very destructive inside and Toms have a habit of marking their territory through scratching and with bodily fluids. My neutered Tom had excellent aim and used to fire a stream at me into my ear at times when he felt like it. Not ideal.

If it were my pond I would stock it with fish & weather permitting I'd be out there fishing as much as a I could. We have 3 cats who all come & go via an electronic cat flap in our back door which we can program to open / close as required. The cats are all chipped so strays & other cats can't get in via the cat flap & we can select which of ours can go out or not. Our ginger tom (Tigger) is not well atm. Lost all his fur & has a bowel disorder due to a vitamin B12 deficiency & is now on a special diet. Vet bills are racking up but he's worth it. I don't envy you that walk to get your mail.
