The Mills Family

The Mills Family

Күн бұрын

This video covers from July 16 (when we got home from Oklahoma) to July 31. What struck me as I edited was seeing so many different life stages and how families support each other no matter which stage you're in. During this two weeks, we potty trained Claudia and she had all of her sisters there to model for her and cheer her on. On the other end of the spectrum, Grandma Fern had a mini stroke and needed some physical therapy so we spent many, many hours sitting by her side. We celebrated Grandma Jane's birthday by having a little barbecue and sprinkling her ashes under the big trees outside her home. It was a time to reflect and remember her with those who owe her their very lives, as well as a time of fun and being together. (Tom gave Grandpa Frank a fun joyride in his wheelchair!) Somewhere between those stages are Papa Gary, with whom the boys spent lots of time working at his property, Grandma Kitty, who had us out for a fun game night and Tom & I. We celebrated our 19th anniversary during this two weeks. There are lots of visits I don't get any video of, but I did get some one day when my sister, Bethany, spent the day with us. (She's going to have a baby in the spring!) We also went to the Crook County Fair Parade with my sister, Ami, and her kids. Normally, we spend the night with Grandma Fern before the parade (a tradition we started back when my mom was still alive), but this year we had to forgo the sleepover since Grandma was in the hospital. I suppose that little tradition is probably over forever now. Old routines go away, but there are always new ones to put in their place. The kids and I have been trying to settle into a new summer routine with breakfast on the porch followed by working in the yard/garden, time spent with our "clubs," and we switched to do chores before bed instead of the morning. Everyone pitches in with a few chores at lunch, too, and it's been fun eating produce from the garden that everyone has helped to grow. Of course, life has lots of time for play with friends and siblings, sleepovers, trips to the library and just plain "hanging out." (We had fun taste testing all of the strange sodas that Tom and I bought on our anniversary with the Reeves family.) Old water pipes are being replaced with new water pipes in our neighborhood, good habits are being reinforced with reward charts at our house and we're learning all about The Hidden Life of Trees. It's amazing to learn how trees are really a community and it makes me see our own community and family in a new light. When Thomas got bit by a dog at work this week, I saw how much people care in our little town. The people Thomas works with were so supportive and the police were so supportive. I'm thankful it all turned out all right and the herbs we used on Thomas' face healed his wound so fast! Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with each other and bountiful provision.

Watching a week after Andrea passed. Well, rewatching....my heart broke when she was making tea talking about her lymph system. She did everything right. I know life’s not fair but this really shows you how unfair it is. Prayers to Tom and kids 💙

@Diane Monaco Monaco Of course they are or Andrea wouldn't have taken them or made treatments for others. Using herbs for health and healing has a history nearly as long as mankind. You could spend a lifetime researching the ancient and more resent knowledge on herbs and other plants used as medicine. It would be time well spent too in my humble opinion. 😊♥

I don't believe that herbs and "home medicine" had anything to do with her death. Inflammatory breast cancer is so rare and the cause is unknown. Having said that I do feel that herbs, barks and plants are all potentially dangerous without the proper knowledge. I think Andrea was conscientious about her knowledge and experience, which may not be the case with everyone. It seems to me (imho) that there are multiple sites selling natural remedies, essential oils, herbs etc with no dosage, concentrations and ratios. Side effects, contraindications, and warnings aren't included on all sites. At the end of the day, naturopaths, medical doctors and advanced practice nurses spend 8+ years in university and 4 additional years in residency and practical experience. That isn't the case with non-professionals and those with a curiosity but no guidance. It just requires extreme vigilance. "Natural" is not automatically safer or better.

@@paigebanks7552 Her mother died from cancer too, so, I'm thinking it simply could have been hereditary or something in their environment over her herbs and teabags.

I really felt for you when you slipped and fell at the store. When I fall (and thankfully it's not that often) I feel like it's all in slow motion, like my brain is trying to figure out how to catch myself or stop it from happening the whole time I'm going down. "TIMBER!!" And then I land like a ton of bricks! I think one of the worst parts about it is everyone else's reaction to it, like, they all want to run over to you and yank you up but your brain needs to just process what the heck just happened. I hope that for you, that is not in the forefront of your brain anymore but when you shared that, I was right there with you. Lots of hugs 💞💗💓💖💕💝💟💌

It never fails...I always shed a tear or two when I watch your videos, Andrea; whether of joy or sorrow. I cried with you over Grandma Fern's stroke, and after Thomas had been bitten. Mama to mama, we have all been there, and could so relate to you. But it looks like Grandma is doing fairly well now? Probably thanks to mega-doses of the best medicine in the world: her loving family

Grandma is doing much better now. She moved into an assisted living apartment about a week and a half ago. It's hard for her to face not going home, but I think she likes the apartment well enough. There are a few people from the old days that live there, too, that she sits with at meals and that helps. I made some of Dr. Christopher's Complete Bone and Tissue ointment for Thomas to use for the scar, but he's not using it. I guess he really wants that scar! You can get it on Amazon, if you'd like to let the other family know. The only difference between that one and homemade is that my homemade version includes the comfrey that was in the original recipe. Here's a link to our Amazon Affiliate store; I put the ointment on the Herbs & Health page. www.amazon.com/shop/omegacomputers?listId=Z32R19TJ9D7Y As for what I used to treat Thomas' bite, I just went and picked some things that I thought would be helpful and then dug up a few things from the pantry. I ended up using yarrow leaf, comfrey leaf, plantain leaf, lamb's ear leaf, echinacea leaf, burdock root and garlic. I blended that up with a little coconut oil to help it hold together and then added essential oils of tea tree, eucalyptus and oregano. It looked a bit like... poo... and smelled a bit like pizza. It was odd, but it did a great job! (I also added all of those things to our Amazon store.)

They call them mini strokes but for anyone that has had them mini is not a good description. I have had several, it was such a major thing to me, 12 years later I walk with a cane. Seeing you with your Grandma makes me think of mine. I have only good memories. Grandma's are good things. Happy Anniversary! My husband and I will celebrate 43 years in March. Of course you cried, Thomas is your son. We mothers do not like to see our kids hurt. I am praying for Thomas and that the dog owner is found and made to take responsibility for her dog's actions.

I’ve been watching KZbin videos trying to learn how to sew so that i can make alterations to my own clothes. One of her videos popped up about how to shop for fabric at a fabric store. It was actually a really helpful video compared so many others that I’ve watched. Then, maybe an hour later another video of hers popped up with a title suggesting that she died. It was so unexpected and made me a lot sadder than I would expect to become for someone you don’t even know. Maybe it’s because she just seemed like a genuinely good person and had such a large family that needed her. I’m not a religious person by any means and I honestly feel a little weird writing this, but i really hope this family continues to heal and i can’t even imagine a person that so many heavily relied on and loved just becoming absent from their lives out of nowhere. So many parents leave their childrens’ lives and those children only have a couple of photos and some stories, but having all of these videos is such a gift. Her grandkids and even great grandkids will know who she was and hopefully see what a good natured person she was. This family is in my thoughts and I wish them the best. ❤

Thanks for taking the time to write! I’m so happy her videos are still helpful. She always said she wanted to make the videos she would want to watch. Healing is slow for me, but the kids seem to be doing fairly well. It was the worst thing that’s ever happened, but life goes on, and we keep ushering in the next generation!

So wonderful to read at the end that Grandma Fern is as feisty as ever and doing good! Do you think she will be able to continue living alone once she is released? My family is facing those kinds of discussions now as my mother has congestive heart failure and is not eating or taking her meds as she needs to even when there is someone there every day. Right now she is in the hospital to get fluid off her lungs so we're talking with her as she will to see what she wants. Hannah sure did find her voice, and laugh, over the summer! And Claudia certainly didn't lose her sass. lol I LOVE the way the kids thank each other for their contribution of produce in the meal. Such a great life lesson! I think all of understand and empathize with your emotion over the dog bite. Doesn't matter how old they get, our babies are still our babies. :-) Such another fantastic and long vlog. Loving them!

Hi Andrea, this was a bittersweet episode, watching little Hannah grow and seeing one of her first laughs and in the same vlog watching Tom's GrandMothers ashes being scattered and the fallout from Grandma Ferns stroke. Life unfolding... as it does, whether we want it to or not. Through it all I thought of how blessed you all are but especially how blessed your husband and children are to have you. I can honestly say that if every child had a Mother like you our world would be a far saner, happier, place for all. God bless you friend !

Grandma Fern is in my thoughts. I'm rooting for her, on her road to recovery! I teared up listening to your family share the sweet memories at Grandma Jane's birthday/memorial. And also in empathy for you, when Thomas was injured by the dog. Did they end up finding the owner? Watching the girls go through the phase of potty training and manners brought memories back of how I used a very similar reward system with my two children. Except we had a large tree and each day we started out with it bare. The blossom's would be earned with sweet behaviour ,and with rotten apples for poor behaviour. At the end of the day we would see if our tree had more blossoms than rotten apples. At the end of the week if there were more blossom days than rotten days they would get the toy on top of the fridge. Otherwise we would work towards those better days the following week! My two were 6 and 3 when we introduced the tree and now , many years later they still recall how much fun it was to count the blossoms! Kids really do bring out our creativity! How is big girl Miss Claudia doing with her training and gumballs? Miss Sophia has grown up so much! What a great big sister being Claudia's potty buddy! As always Andrea I enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing! P.s. Hannah's little giggles are precious❣️

The gumballs have been working well, though I should've thought through the idea of giving them gum before bed. :) I bought a little gumball machine and some tiny gumballs to make it not so bad. :) They did find the dog owner and she confirmed the dog had its rabies shot. I don't know if she got any sort of a ticket or not.

Sending hugs, prayers and positivity to your family. It’s rare that people take the time to sit and talk with their grandparents or elders anymore. I loved hanging out with my grandparents and listening to their stories. My one regret is that they will not be around to see me get married and have children. But I have tons of wonderful stories and memories to pass along as I am sure you do Andrea.

Such a sweet video .. tough laws in Alabama with dog bites . They would have put their dog up at a vet to make sure no rabies . If you can’t find the owners , Drs will strongly suggest Rabies shots ..I’m sure you all have the same laws too .. that was a nasty bite too .. my daughter bitten twice . But we had to track down the owner . I had to find one of them . Also we had a dog that nip you heels when u turned away if he didn’t know you .. we had a fence with sign beware of dog and neighbor boy jumped fence to get ball I was watching out my window.. he got him before I could get there . There was a somewhat scratch with no blood but it scared him he cried they took him to dr which was fine dr office called police and animal shelter .. shelter told us if we didn’t have our dog to the vet by the end of day they would kill him have his head sent off for rabies 😳 .. and you pay for dog to be at vet .. they were serious . But when my kid got bit and took to dr they were gonna do nothing .. I was like oh no ..call the police . I know this routine .

Thank you so much for the long video Andrea, tomorrow (oops later today now haha) i have a full thyroidectomy to remove cancer and I am more than slightly stressed about it, so it was wonderful to have this bit of calm (and adorable) distraction, im glad Fern is doing much better than she was and Thomas' face is healing up nicely.

Joshua, we're praying that all goes well today. I can imagine you have a lot of anxiety about it. This day will be over and it will be done. (My aunt Mona had her thyroid taken out about 10 years ago. She was in the last vlog holding Hannah at Grandma Fern's house.) I also pray that whatever God's will is for you, that you will know it through all of this.

Andrea Mills actually, I am for the first time in my life quite grateful to be someone who has dealt with chronic pain, im sleeping a lot and the surgery was a bit complex (the cancer was in my lymph nodes as well including one near one of my major vocal nerves apparently so i couldn't really speak for a couple days and i still pretty much sound like a teenager going through puberty again if i try to make any noise that isnt just normal voice, which of course our pet cats are taking as a que to not need to respond to me because i literally cant yell haha), but im more than aware enough to be kicking around on youtube, netflix, and even some light gaming which is incredible honestly, i figured id be a zombie for at least a week or two :D. thank you so much for your prayers! and also thank you so much for helping me retain a bit of calm in this journey, I hope you understand how much good you do sharing your family with us :)

I'm so happy to hear that you're recovering so well (squeaky voice notwithstanding)! I lost my voice for a few days once, for no reason I ever could figure out, and it made parenting rather interesting. I suspect your cats are giggling at you behind your back. :)

Prayers and just stopping by to day Hello! Roman is 19 pounds and 3.5 months! We are back at school and going to Disney soon. (We splurged on this trip) and my Grandma is battling Lung Cancer... :( It's been crazy. I had to put my big kids in time4learning so I could teach my littles and get a few things done. It's a season of change, and I really don't like change at all. I will pray for continued healing over hour grandma. God bless!

Wow! He just doesn't quit, does he?! Yes, change is never fun, but neither is having everything stay the same. :) I'm sorry to hear about your grandma, but I bet a trip to Disney will be a nice distraction!

Praying for your family!!! How is your anxiety when you have to visit a hospital? I get just as freaked out about visiting as I do about being the potential patient :( You guys are amazing and you bless everyone who watches. You lead by example. Not many people with 3 kids would be making the drive to the hospital and hanging out, they would be making excuses about being too busy. Yet, you have 9 including a newborn and you are putting Grandma first because you recognize the value of family! ((hugs)) and prayers for you guys!!
