This video covers our first two weeks of summer break from June 29 - July 10. We started off with a trip to Mac & Roonies that was a bust, so we ended up having dinner at Burger King instead. Then we went and shopped for fireworks for Independence Day. We had a short visit from Papa Doug and Grandma Donna (Tom's step-father and his wife) which we very much enjoyed. They were driving through heading back to California after visiting Donna's family in Wisconsin. We had fun with the little horned toad pets that Papa Gary and the boys caught at Papa's house, but we returned all of them before we left on our trip to Oklahoma. Much of the two weeks of our break was spent making plans, preparing and packing for our trip to the Preterist Pilgrim Weekend in Ardmore, Oklahoma. We got some mail from some of our KZbin friends, including so huge packages from Olive Nault that were a bit like Christmas in July! Opening those packages began a dispute over whether we've had kindereggs before. Thanks to KZbin, we had some video evidence to settle the debate. :) Aside from the busyness of getting ready for our trip, working in the garden and what-not, we also had a fun Independence Day celebration and we spent time visiting Grandma Fern and Grandpa Frank. During my visit to Grandma Fern's, there was a terrible rainstorm and I had to go out in it to buy diapers since, in my haste, I forgot to pack any along. As I entered the grocery store, my wet flip flops slipped on the tile floor. I slid into the rug causing me to stop suddenly, jolt forward and I flailed about wildly trying to keep from falling. I ended up almost going head first into the carts before landing on the ground about 10 feet from where I started. And, yes, people were watching. It was SO mortifying. To make matter worse, my emotional self started crying. Then I had to still go find the diapers and buy them from the cashiers who'd just helped me up off the floor. It was so, so embarrassing. Asher enjoyed his shopping trip to the pet store much more than I enjoyed mine at the grocery store. Asher picked out a new turtle to live in our turtle pond. He named the turtle Father Abraham Lincoln. Why? Because Asher is Asher. We had a few mishaps when we were running errands that day. When we stopped at the car wash, our window wouldn't roll up right before it was our turn to go through the car wash, but we pulled off to the side and it just finally decided to go up. When we stopped at the oil change place, Hannah had a major poopy diaper and I didn't have any wipes. (I was out but we were going to pick some up at Walmart.) There was no changing table in the bathroom. There was no counter... or even a clean surface, for that matter... so I had to change her diaper by dangling her over the sink using paper towels and then putting the new diaper on her in that same position. It was interesting and Tom said you could hear her crying all the way out in the oil change bay! For some reason, Claudia got sick and threw up in the van all over her clothes so we had to use Hannah's blanket to fashion a makeshift shirt for her. But all's well that end's well. I didn't film a lot of things that were going on during this two weeks, but I did get a cute moment of Eden sitting at her little table sewing away on some project at 11:00 at night. She reminded me so much of myself.
