I really like the fact that you are always verifying issues before you proceed with repairs. It really helps me with understanding some of the processes involved that I can use when working on other vehicles.

Kenny, I heard your comment in passing about needing a knee replacement. Let me offer some advice: Get with a physical therapist before hand and start strengthening your legs and knee - "pre-hab", instead of rehab. I wish I had.

Fun fact, my boy had the hydraulic throw out bearing on his 2004 Saturn go bad. So he ordered a complete clutch kit as the vehicle had over 100,000 miles on it. He had a friend help him remove the tranny, which means they had to drop the subframe to accomplish this repair. He went to start it up upon conclusion of the replacement, guess what, no go. He came in from the shop frustrated, that's when I asked him why he did not ask me to get involved, he said he was confident in his skills. To make a long story short, Saturn used two types of clutches, normal and a self-adjusting type, he had the wrong style, went and obtained the correct one once he removed the replacement so I could see what the problem was. Reinstalled the correct one, put everything back together and low and behold, it works fine. So, it pays to look at things when you really don't have a clue.

I owned 72 Dodge Challenger 340 std. Tran. After about 15-20,000 I was getting chatter. When we opened it and went to remove the Pressure plate a bolt was missing. But half of the stud was in the pressure plate. Technically a factory defect.

Learned about line wrenches in high school auto mechanics around 1980 and in the Navy we didn't touch any kind of line without line wrenches. Since then I haven't needed them often enough to justify spending the money but if I had my own garage I would get a set.

Glad you made 2 parts and not cut it down also back in the day when i was young and in debt i had to use what i had for tools because living paycheck to pay check i could barely afford the parts but a shop should have all the tools needed

As I understand it, shops may supply special tools for specialty work, but most shops rely and depend on mechanics to bring their own tools to work. I did, however work in factory situations where all tools were supplied by the company, including storage and replacements. Mechanics were held responsible for the tools assigned to them.

TC, XA, XB are built on the Corolla chassis from 2008 to 2017. 2.4 liter engine. Early models were built on echo chassis 1.5 liter engine. Nice car’s if you take care of them gave away my 2004 XB it’s still running I bought it new and put 230,000 miles on it. You didn’t say what year your TC was.

Great job brother Kenny! Kenny, you are such a smart man when it comes to auto repair. When you began the transmission installation , most of us would have called or asked for someone to help us but you did it and all alone. I think the idea of using the scissors jack was ingenious as it moved the engine just enough to hep to get the tranny in place. I thought that I was the only one who would have done such a thing. When you said 'especially when you're getting up in age, like I am', my thought was that there is no replacement for experience. You have done so many jobs like this that it is second nature to you. We "poor schmucks" lack experience an that is why I can't thank you enough for making these videos. Hey Kenny, is it me or does that Scion TC have a lot of tranny mounts? I actually lost track of how many you put in. I guess I may have to watch the video again. Are some of those considered to be engine mounts?

Yes, looks like that shop "refaced" it with an angle grinder and a flap disk, from all those marks. Did not want to spend the actual time, and new crank bolts, to take it out and actually reface it properly.

Pull half the car to pieces for what should be a simple removal. It's the modern way I know. I remember when a couple of my mates and I put the trans back in my old Toyota Corona wagon. Took us 23 minutes and we were none of use mechanics. Just worked in a friends car pit.

Hello Mr Kenny, hope you and Meg are doing well today. Tuned up that PT Bruiser 07, the usual, but smelled fuel in oil. Not bad, runs ok but at 3500 rpm it bogs, scan throws 02 sensor code. It's lying, cleaned throttle body, but looked at injectors and pretty sure at 150 thou, they're original 😮. Going to change all 4 and hope it cures the fuel problem.Crazy bruiser😂

Wish I had a lift to put my Honda civic on when replacing the clutch and 5 speed, car was on jackstands and working on the ground lifting the tranny with one arm because of the lack of room to get both arms in. Had to do it twice because the un named parts store gave me the wrong clutch and it broke 3 months later. Again on my back laying underneath. Yea, those were the days

Do you worry about wearing your ring and possibly injuring your hand? I try to take all jewelry off before working on any vehicle. All that said. . . nice ring. Those clutch bolts look small. Probably don’t want to torque too much? Like don’t go bananas?😜🤪 Years ago I did a clutch on my MGB. Don’t ask! Horrible trying to mate trans and engine. And I had way more room than you do with that FWD car.
