There is a de-cluttering rule. it's the 20/20 rule for getting rid of something you're unsure of. Can you replace it either in 20 minutes or for $20? If yes then get rid of it and if you need to get another one you can run to home depot and replace it in 20 minutes for under $20. You can also use a Quarantine box. Put it in a quarantine box for a specified amount of time and if you haven't needed it when the time is up you get rid of it knowing you don't need it. It's May give yourself 2 months to see the end of July. My guess is you won't miss it. I have fished exactly 1 large tupperware bowl out of my quarantine box since I have started using this method

Put your laundry stuff, fabric stain remover , bleach in the laundry room. Fabric softeners. I keep a bathroom cleaner under each bathroom sink, along with toilet bowl cleaner ,windex. and cleaning cloths that way you don't take it from room to room. When making a shopping list it is only necessary to look under each sink. and refurbish as necessary

Downsized to a smaller house. I donated women's clothing, shoes, purses, men's clothing, shoes, coats, jackets, boots, household items, kitchen items, garden tools, garage stuff etc. to 3 Goodwills in my area. I figure I went through 10 people's lifetime accumulation of "stuff" including my stuff. I sold our house in 4 days and had to close in 2 months. Talk about a mega decluttering marathon race to the finish. No one wants furniture. No one. I filled a 30 yard dumpster full of furniture and junk in 10 days. I moved no furniture, lamps, tvs, kitchen stuff. I moved to a warmer climate so winter clothes were donated and only lightweight clothing was packed and moved. Now I watch what I buy because I NEVER want to marathon declutter again in my life. Happy decluttering. Be brutal in what you go through. Keep nothing unless you need it or use it or wear it.

I keep a few tools in junk drawer, but I also have a tool bag for the car, one for the house upstairs, one for downstairs and also a set of tools (not in a bag) in the garage. Keep a couple screw drivers and pliers on my porch to. Wouldn't have it any other way cause then I'm not running upstairs to get a tool when I'm downstairs or visa versa. Can't live without the separate tool bag for the car. Never know when I'm going somewhere if something will happen or if someone else has something wrong I have them on hand. So surprised you two are going to get rid of so many tools. Don't be surprised if you regret this and end up having to replace them sometime.

Way to go. The best way I found to declutter was to have 4 bins. TRASH -DONATE - KEEP - UNDECIDED Then I would pick a shelf sort it into the boxes, the next day pick another shelf and so on. Once I sort that room it went to its final home. Trash in trash, Donate gets donated, Keep gets put back away and undecided stays in the box, in that room or area. If i use something from that box within say, 6 months I keep it. After 6 months what I don't use from the box goes to the trash box or the donate box.

yeah - we are worse because when my parents died (at 2 different points in time) and my husband's parents died (also 2 different points in time); we ended up with 3 households of furniture and belongings all in one house. we also ended up with the residue of what we had left over when we closed our health food store on top of all of that. and the timing of all these events happened in such a manner that we DID NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY to go through it all as it was occurring. so we ended up with all this STUFF. by the time all this had taken place, i started having health issues, so we have yet to be able to sort through and declutter. that is what we are planning and aiming at accomplishing in the next couple of years. and it will take that long because i now have limited mobility and there is soooooooo much STUFF to go through. so yes - some of us are worse off with what is needing to be done~!!!!!! LOLOLOL we have been discussing it and are working on how to approach the decluttering and what will work best for us as we are too individual & nutty from other people. we have tried doing things the way others do and it never works out well for us. but when we get our heads together and work on what our needs are - it works out well. i think the biggest problem will be training ourselves to put things back when we are through using them~!!! just want you to know that i really enjoy watching you two because you are crazy like we are & you allow each other to be who you are (not what you think the other should be). please be sure to incorporate that in your decluttering process as it is one of the most valuable gifts that you can ever give to each other~!!!!
