I've been up and down England's cities through my years and have always got into situations but never had to deal with this, I've got 4 boys from 17 - 2 years old and I'm petrified their going to one day run into one of these idiots and that's it life over for next to nothing, something has to happen and quick to make our children safe. Does the BBC understand it's just created and propagated a negative perception of Liverpool as some kind of national knife crime capital? For report that is meant to be regarding a national issue it's nevertheless been focussed and titled 'liverpool' whilst making no comment on the fact the city has the lowest metropolitan city crime rate in the U.K.? Michael McDonough Basically, the BBC wanted to doa report on knife crime but cover the problem where it genuinely lies (London) would be to accept that it's heavily gang related with most of it being black on black. This is why they chose to cover it in Liverpool mate. Trust me, I recently moved out of London after living there since 1980 and the situation there is really bad.

I think the point is being missed slightly....although Liverpool was featured in the documentary, In the intro it say the story is Nationwide and could be told in many other cities across the UK. If all the documentaries are based in London then people are more likely to believe falsely that it only happens in London. I 've seen another documentary where Nottingham was featured. What is being highlighted is that knife crime is a UK-wide issue.

I know it won't happen, but the first thing that has to happen is that Police are put back walking the streets in numbers,as they used to be and be as visible as possible. Years of cuts and not walking the beat has got us to where we are now. Just threatening jail for carrying knives won't work as the streets aren't safe and people carry to protect themselves. Social media has so much to answer for too in modern society.

The British Government should stop banning all knives but rather try to find a solution to improve the quality of life...and also to offer help to kids who already are in this situation.

It is also worth saying that knives are the easiest weapon to manufacture, so you can never fully ban them. Here’s the reality, anything and everything can be sharpened down into a knife like object. Hell, they do it in prison with toothbrushes, spoons, and even soap. If you cannot prevent the creation of shanks in prison, then you cannot prevent shanks in the real world.

No doubt the lads who have gone out of their way to harm others need to be brought to justice. Let's understand that people are genuinely concerned for their safety and they must do something about it because the police cannot protect everyone. In fact relying only on the police is a terrible idea. Sometimes running is an option, but sometimes running won't save your life. How about the UK government introduces holistic solutions? How about the government makes self defense training mandatory in schools? It's not that far fetched considering Judo and wrestling are already in American public schools. C'mon people, give the kids other options to defend themselves so they don't always feel the need to carry knives. Also the concept of carrying a weapon for self defense is not morally wrong. You simply need regulation and mandatory training to go along with the privilege to carry a weapon. Lastly, there is nothing the government can do to completely rid of knives off all streets. The answer is not simply "Ban all knives". Thank you for reading my comment.

I feel for these kids. This happens all over. In Southampton, where I am from, I actually ended up carrying a knife for a few years because it was the only thing that made me feel safe after enough times being jumped or threatened with another blade or a screwdriver this one time.
