Scotland on a Shoestring

Scotland on a Shoestring

Жыл бұрын

A nice weekend away in Mabel the stealth camper van with DeNiro the rescue greyhound (as usual) taking up most of the space. We hit the high spots of Pitlochry, run the tough‪@parkrunglobal‬ run at Faskally Forest before getting on our bikes and heading up to Killiekrankie and Blair Atholl for a wee explore.
No visit to Pitlochry would be complete without a wee visit to the Dam to see if there are ant Salmon about too.
If you enjoy this video you can buy DeNiro a biscuit at ko-fi.com/scotlandonashoestring

Pitlochry is one of my favorite places in Scotland. Helps to have family there to visit. Loved the piece on the salmon ladder.

I really enjoyed your interpretation of a salmon going up the fish ladder. Reminds me of the Sumerian fish people from antiquity.

That fish ladder is HUGE! It's nothing like the tiny ones I've seen. And I, for one, really enjoyed seeing the innards of the mill, very cool!

The ladder is amazing, as a kid I loved the observation chamber and seeing them swim through.

I am a weirdo I love bagpipes and drums except Scotland the Brave only because every bagpipe group in the US plays that song. I loved your rendition of the fish ladder. Thank you so much for the adventure and beautiful sceneries around Scotland. Have a blessed week.

I served my time at Ferranti Ltd in the Research and Development Dept at The Avenue Works, Hollinwood from 1960 to 1965. Happy days. By the way, loved your visits helping those with the Byre on Skye.

They probably think that if they outlaw camping people will go to hotels and resturants. More likely they will just lose out on whatever else the campers might spend as they will stop coming.

That’s exactly it. Sleep in the van but spend money in the town. Over in France they get it with their Aires but there’s a different mindset over here alas.

Blair Atholl, the once renowned home of the Duke of Atholl, now sadly departed Earth as he was a great man and a friend of my Fathers' who also happened to be born in a old but and ben just outside Pitlochry. And from that I got my name Atholl Blair plus Cameron as Dad started his Army service at the tender age of 14 years and was in the Cameronian Highlanders stationed on the Kyber Pass circa of 1933 to 1936, when he was transferred back to England on a troop ship for invalids and not well to do's. He had Polio and lost his right legs strength due to a tattooist using a dirty needle. Okay so that is my story and how I long to live down there in God's country but doubt if I ever will, due to ill health and age issues.

How cool! My grandfather was on the Kyber Pass. He was in a Rifle Brigade. I have just found some photos of the area showing them entering Camp Landikotel in 1927.
