I am confused. Why where you disappointed? Because the hike was long or because there where people at a popular hiking trail. We just did this hike and found it absolutely gorgeous. It was long but the beautiful scenery made it very worthwhile. We enjoyed it very much.

You really have some weird ideas about Norway. - When did the hike to Trolltunga become "...the longest hike in Norway..."...??? Any area in Norway is a hiking area for the locals. Any mountain ...even ...a number of them at once could be a hike. Norwegians go out in nature and go for a hike any day of the year because they like nature and activities outdoor ....not because they have seen a tourist video on youtube ....and then live in the bewildering ....like some tourists.... that there are only 2 or 3 hikes in Norway. People can do short trips ....or long trips ...they can take with them tent and be out hiking for a week or more and easily go 100 km ... or whatever.. There are DNT cabins all over Norway so you can stay under roof if you want. Some has even made the length of Norway, south to north, into one hike. Hence you make your hike as long as you want ....that Trolltunga hike is just a normal day hike that can be done by a family with 10 year old kids. - Reindeer are "..collected and put in shelter..." for the winter. Nope ....reindeer are by nature developed to live in the climate of Norway...it's their natural habitat...... In most areas they are herded ....yes...but even those herds are semi-wild migrating animals and follow their normal / natural paths, depending on the season. Reindeer herding is not just "in the north", but also in middle and southern part of Norway as far south as around Røros. In the central part of southern Norway in the mountain areas like Dovre and Hardangervidda are there living wild reindeer (hence not herded by the Sami people). The thing that there can be animals (of many kinds....not just sheep) on the roads in Norway is simply because of something called NATURE ....hence it is a natural/normal thing. Actually it is Germany which is the odd ...and sad .... story here..... Germany is a country smaller than Norway but they has put in 83 million people ...and thereby more or less destroyed all of nature and what normally lives there. It is really weird to see tourists getting surprised over that something ...it this case the nature....function normal as it should do..... - You complain about the narrow roads and the big camper vans. It might surprise you but the most of those are German tourists. Should Norwegians pay the bill for wider roads because of the Germans ....??? Maybe you observed that Norway do have something called topography of the quite extreme type. Hence mountains ...mountains and more more mountains. That means that the road has to be cut into the side of a mountain ....and the slope to the top of the mountain maybe 1000 m or more up will be a part of the cost for that road. How much you can cut into the mountain side before it gets unstable and come crashing down is an issue. Avalanches of rocks or snow is not uncommon. Measures for securing the rock falls are very expensive. So is the constant surveillance of all the potential avalanche areas (helicopter is often used) result in extensive costs. In most of Germany you build a road and can just forget about the area along the road because it mostly is flat. The cost of building roads in Norway ...both because of topography, geographic size, complexity and climate....are multiple times that of what it cost to build a road in Germany. Norway has only 5 million people to pay for the infrastructure called road. Pro capita is it like for a German tax payer to pay 1 Euro while a Norwegian must out with 100 Euro for the same amount of road. The distances in Norway end-to-end are around 3 time that of Germany. In total there are around 100000 km of main roads, plus thousands of kilometres of local roads ...also paved. There are over 800 km of road tunnels (including the world longest of 24 ,5 km ) 37 under-the-sea-tunnels (under construction is a 27 km one) , tons of big suspension bridges .....than add hundreds of car ferries ....all these things are next to non existing things in Germany. Oh....did I mention something about costs...??? That was only the start. We also have something called winter. 25 million km are driven with snow clearing machines in one season. In the mountains can the snow be 4-6 meter deep. With these astronomical costs of infrastructure in Norway we do get a bit pissed when Germans come with their campers and complain (again and again) about the narrow roads. Drive according to the conditions or go home.....simple as that. I hope this could give you a different perspective on the reality. Oh....yesterday was Trollstigen road closed because of a rock avalanche ....and that was not the only road.... Not far from there did the road simply disappear due to a landslide....

Yes, nature has made road-building and -maintenance challenging in Norway, but you conveniently fail to mention that nature has also given Norway vast amounts of oil and natural gas to pay for it. Convenient amnesia, eh?
