Wow just wow. I think you had the right to utter some profanities 😂. That fish definitely put your mountain goat skills to the test. Didn't look easy playing that fish in amongst the stones. I think you may have needed a bigger net if you had got it in.

Nearly mate, was so hoping you were gonna get a Florida Keys moment there , never mind, go for its dad next time 🤣 you might need a bigger set up though lol, copied this off Wikipedia The average length is from 70 to 120 cm (28 to 47 in). The maximum length is about 150 to 180 cm (59 to 71 in). The maximum size is not assured, but supposedly a fish caught in the Kotui River in Russia in 1943 with a length of 210 cm (83 in) and a weight of 105 kg (231 lb) is the largest size recorded
@japanesefishingadventures Жыл бұрын
Haha when I had him on, I did flashback to that Tarpon and was thinking holy smokes we've done it again! But sadly it wasn't to be! Taimen grow to huge sizes, they really do! The Japanese Huchen luckily doesn't get to Russian sizes, but they are still pretty big!! Regardless I am in for a battle. I have read up and researched catching this fish so much and to finally have one on the line was a real dream! Scaling up will definitely need to happen but they are so rare! Think there will be some long nights on the bank trying to catching this one!! thank you as always for watching!!

Use barbed hooks?
@japanesefishingadventures Жыл бұрын
Barbed hooks are banned in Hokkaido I'm afraid, as far as I am aware anyways! Also plenty of small rainbows and masu trout so using barbed hooks can cause some serious damage to these small fish! Ideal world I would and if I was actually targetting the fish! Thank you for watching mate much appreciated!
@blankmasterfishing Жыл бұрын
Omg what a monster, I had a big pike doing the same to me with a perch I had still hooked. It went from fighting a little perch to fighting a double figure pike, and he wasn't even hooked up, he just really wanted the perch and kept it's mouth closed the whole time😂
@japanesefishingadventures Жыл бұрын
Great effort for landing a Pike like!! Normally they let go when they feel the resistance pulling back, must have been a hungry sod!! Thank you so much for watching pal, massively appreciated!!
@blankmasterfishing Жыл бұрын
@@japanesefishingadventures I didn't landed it unfortunately, it was about to get in the net when my mate touches it's tail with the net, it opened it's mouth and the perch came flying right at my face. My mate just missed getting it in the net but I had a really good look at it, it was a double for sure. This still gives me nightmares to this day.😅

Add the 2nd mid body treble instead of removing it. Drop the floppy rod, use the drag, lift the rod so the tip (fast action) puts power to the fish, tire out the fish, land fish.
@japanesefishingadventures Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thank you for this. I wasn't targetting the fish and it certainly wasn't expected. They are incredibly rare and hooking into one is like a needle in a haytsack odds. Should also be stated that the sheer power of the Huchen is something tough to explain. I have had these fish in Slovenia on heavy gear and they use their power and the current to their advantage. When i target this fish we will be bulking up the rod obviously! Thank you for your advice certainly taken on board!
