We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.

I totally agree with you about the culture shock after returning to the US many years later. I traveled the world (97 countries) for 5 years on a motorcycle! Then I decided to settle down in Rome. I was there for 2 years traveling all over Italy then 2 weeks ago I landed in Detroit (I am actually in the suburbs) and was not ready or it. Yes everything is big and convenient to a point! To make a long story short: I miss the Dolce Vita...........You guys have a great family. Happy Thanksgiving.

It warms my heart to see how much your enjoying a break from your work. It shows so much in your speech, your smiles and your actions just how badly needed this break was for you. Seeing your families, all the hugs and renewing old friendships is going to give you a second wind, you deserve this so so much. You have put in a hard year of very hard work. Love you guys, have fun.

My first comment! I’m now 69, and although I’ve had an exciting life having grown up in San Francisco near Golden Gate Park in the 60s & 70s (and marrying a member of a famous rock band), I unfortunately never traveled to Italy. My grandparents emigrated to tye US from Belnome in the mountains east of Genoa, and my cousin still owns my great grandfather’s home. Every year, there is a huge family reunion for weeks where the women cook and the men sing and everyone dances and drinks wine. I’m hoping to go before it’s too late! Anyway, I’m living vicariously through you, and think you must’ve picked the most beautiful spot in Italy for your homestead. I’m mesmerized by all of the different facets of your property, and how you have pulled from so many of its resources. I also love that your girls are going to be so well-rounded after this between traveling and being hands-on with renovations. And I love how transparent you are with all of your ups and downs, and that you haven’t lost your sense of humor through it all! I do know that in my next life, I am going to pick a husband who is handy! I’m the one that fixes everything around here. Sorry for the long text but I just love you guys and wish you the very best. I can’t wait to see the end result on the house, especially since I feel like you are really ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Take care. Much love, Kathi. ❤

Ciao Sara! I am coming to Italy next year and hope to visit Genoa and possibly Belnome. How wonderful that you know where Belnome is located. Many people do not! My ancestors started out in Genoa and I have always wanted to visit. I would love to drive into the mountains. My old boyfriend was from Tuscany and he still foraged for mushrooms after he came to the United States from Italy. Thank you for writing to me. ❤

I’ve only just found you and as a Canadian who has lived in Australian for a very long time, I know reverse culture shock well. An Egyptian friend of mine once said that your country of origin is like your mother and your new country is like your wife, you’ll always love and visit your mother, but you have to be with your wife. I love that sayings, it describes living abroad so well. Thanks for all your time and effort making these videos. I did it for one year and know how much work it takes. Enjoy visiting home.

Way back after graduating from college I went to Europe for 3 months. Returning home was a rest for me. After several days I could have returned to Europe as my batteries were recharged, I’d had food I’d missed n saw my family. I totally get the missing the small things that gives one comfort. There was great joy in experiencing a different way of life, the smells and sights. If I could have had a great burger n fries I could have traveled longer lol. Enjoy your visit!

I am so glad for you guys!, I hope you enjoy your so deserved break, mind you that time is passing by so quickly!, you can see in your love ones and what is paramount is family gathering in these circumstances, as the world today is so complicated that is capable of destroying plans in a blink of the eye. Enjoy the love of the family, you will notice a rare feeling when you depart, but you soul will be calm because you done the right thing. So never the less. Have a great time!, and recharge your batteries! ( from an old migrant that left his country some 52 years ago) Cheers from Down Under
