« Until I got here, my only friends were the last words of the already dead. Like William McKinley, the third American president to be assassinated. He lived for several days after he was shot. But towards the end, his wife started crying and screaming, « I want to go too ». With his last measure of strength, McKinley turned to his wife and spoke his last words, « We are all going. » And then Alaska had to go, because I screwed up and the Colonel screwed up and we let her go and she slipped through our fingers. We will always live with things done and things left undone that day. If only we could see the endless string of consequences that result from our smallest actions. But we can't know better until knowing better is useless. I thought at first that she was just dead, just darkness. Just a body being eaten by bugs. I still sometimes think that the afterlife is just something we made up to ease the pain of loss, to make our time in the labyrinth bearable. But here's what gives me hope. If you take Alaska's genetic code and you add her life experiences and the relationships she had with people, and then you take the size and shape of her body, you do not get her. There is something else entirely. There's a part of her greater than the sum of her knowable parts. And that part has to go somewhere, because energy once created is never destroyed. And if Alaska took her own life, that is the hope I wish I could have given her, to understand that anything in life is survivable, because we are as indestructible as we believe ourselves to be. So I know she forgives me just as I forgive her. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. We can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. I know so many last words, but I'll never know hers. I'll never know her thoughts in those last minutes. We'll never know if she left us on purpose. But the not knowing will not keep me from caring. Alaska's last words to me were: « To be continued. » And she was right. I must continue I choose the labyrinth, even if there is no way out, even if we're all going, even if everything falls apart. I will always love Alaska Young, my crooked neighbour, with all my crooked heart. Thomas Edison's last words were, « It's very beautiful over there. » I don't know where « there » is But I believe it's somewhere. And I hope it's beautiful. »
12 years old me cried reading the book for the first time.
17 years old me cried again while reading the book again after the death of a friend.
nearly 20 years old me cried watching the series these past days.
the power this story holds…it’s incredible. of course i was excited to see what they did with the adaptation but i didn’t expect it to be that good and that faithful to the book.
this is such a simple video, i just put some of my favorites quotes and scenes together especially in the end but i really needed to edit this story (and you know that there might be some more videos about it to come)
by the way, thank you « looking for alaska » for giving me my inspiration back, i missed it this past few weeks.
as always, I’d love to know what you think!

As a teenager, I can't explain how much I relate from this character of Alaska Young. The way she was always so energetic hiding so much of grief and pain inside her is just really heart wrenching. Sometimes I really wish that she wouldn't have died. I wish I could've get to know her better. Idk.. I just can't get over this and Alaska specially. I love her so much :)

one of the best things about the book (i haven't watched the show yet) it doesn't end when she dies but it also covers them coming to terms with her death

This is really beautiful. I have no words to describe what you make me feel with this edit because is a mix of happiness,sadness and anger. I loved the book 5 years ago, and when I watch the show many memories came to me. In general, people will think that the plot or story is not complicated, because it is not. It's simple. But the message that comes to transmite and everything you learn from this story goes far beyond that those stories that are complex. You show all this in your edit and I have to say that you did it so good that you make me cry and laugh, and think in all those little things that involve this story. Completely beautiful💙💙💙

Wow this is such a beautiful video! 😍 I love that you used this song! And starting the video with the labyrinth quote was so on point! And using all these scenes... you've created such a meaningful video! I've also read the book, but I'm yet to see the show. And this video brought back all the feelings 😭 "I'll always love Alaska..." 😭💔 Aah what an incredible tribute! I'll definitely get to the show soon!

Is there someone who finally find a way out of labyrinth of suffering?
@newtoniantime8804
@newtoniantime8804 Жыл бұрын
Short answer: Death. This is why death is so beautiful. Long answer: Learn to enjoy the labyrinth. Don't pause at a dead end when something hard happens to you. Things can turn around when you reach a corner, a new path to discover. Life been heavy? Remember that death is then easier for you. Stop looking for the way out of pain, the labyrinth will guide you out when your time comes. Look for a new ways in the labyrinth. Learn from young kids; Test and Discover. Don't be scared of death because this is nothing you can do anything about. Accept, smile and welcome your future. Try to sense something new if you unhappy. Listen to your breath.

Yep. In a car accident. It was her mother's death anniversary and she forgot and was driving to the cemetery when she crashed. She was also drunk, but I forgot if it was before or after she rushed out of the room. Some people who didn't read the book thought it was suicide, but it really was an accident.
