I would go so far as to say that since there are no neuter animate nouns (that I can think of, at least), one can generalize this rule to the neuter case too. In that light, masculine and neuter differ only in the nominative case and all declension tables can reduce the neuter column to just special cases for nominative singular and plural. Do please correct me if I'm wrong!
