Welp, ONE MILLION views in just seven months on a dumb passion project I didn't expect to break 1000 views, thank you. It's been a year and seven months since I've graduated and through all these turbulent times and struggles since I've had trying to make a living off of an artistic craft, I do have a few regrets about not being experienced enough to capitalize on the momentum and do more art with Naomi n' Valerie. If you've been following me more closely... then you know that I value my craft as an animator highly and that I've been genuinely trying to improve in an industry that largely had rejected my output and artistry. That said, I plan on returning to my full-time passion projects in January 2025 and finally animating a follow-up mini series or pilot film for We Love Cold War 2.0. I've already been making arrangements with voice actors and a composer to up the production value a bit and make this something I can propel into the future with a lasting legacy... And to all those who've watched or rewatched and kept coming back to We Love Cold War even after all this time... Thank you, genuinely with a history enthusiast's heart, showing that attention to detail and a bit of fun in this hyper-specific niche can pay off, thank you. But this is not the peak of my career, there is yet work to be done!

Fun fact: the animation displays an interesting quirk of the Citroen DS. As it has self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension, it can actually drive on 3 wheels, which saved the life of president Charles de Gaulle on an assassination attempt on the 22nd of August, 1962, similar as shown here. There are multiple videos on the internet showing Citroen test drivers driving them on 3 wheels as a bit of a party trick as well.

2:32 Fun Fact: This shit is actually real. It wasn't even invented during the Cold War but much earlier, during the times of the Great War (alternatively, the "war to end all wars" War). Before you ask, yes, it's the French. Somebody thought it'd be a great idea or just downright hilarious to strap an artillery cannon to the front of a military moped. Surprisingly it *_ACTUALLY_* works... somewhat. You don't actually shoot it while driving (I know, disappointing) since doing so would send a recoiling blowback so intense you'll careen off the dirt road and fall into a comically deep ravine like a Looney tunes character. Instead, it's supposed use is basically just a more mobile artillery cannon which you have to fire while stationary. I just find it funny such an outdated and mostly forgotten piece of military history (accidentally) found it's way into a beautifully animated Cold War OC anime opening out of all things

The Afghanistan part is 100% accurate, any anonymous Mujahideen member will fact check
@casematecardinal7 ай бұрын
I mean the soviets wouldn't likely use mi8s for ground convoy escort but yeah an mi8 in most configurations tends to be carrying some form of cargo that could be extremely important based on supply doctrine of the time. So they would have been high priority targets for the mujahideen who would likely be using a mixture of early Soviet and American manpads which the mi8 isn't good at defending against.

Are you serious? Fire the helicopter on plain terrain is 100% accurate? This person would be killed instantlty, when pilots see the horserider with stinger. Helicopters have defense against the rockets. So I don't believe in it. It would be real, if partisan was on a mountain, behind the rock or something. Not on a WHITE horse, on a plain.

They're both ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE at their jobs. I love them. Also, really good work on the firearms, the M14, the star decal on the Soviet's Makarov, the use of the Hush Puppy instead of a 1911 like I mighta expected, they're very solid. I also like the whole back-and-forth thing, and the slow countdown of the DEFCON system as the situation escalates. Not sure why the East German police were using PPShes and old Great War era Artillery Lugers but the animating of their action cycling was pretty great. Also, the Hammer-And-Sickle batsignal made me die laughing. 10/10, will probably watch again in the future.

It’s cool when authors use the topic of politics or history for creative purposes, without giving preference to one or another ideology or view of events, but skillfully playing with images and symbols, leading to an interesting moral. The contrasts are placed so subtly that you see not a confrontation between two enemies, but a rivalry between two friends, almost cooperation in space exploration. It turned out to be a crazy game of associations - a continuation of the "Cold War" after the evacuation from the cooled Earth to the cold Moon in cold space. It's literally an alternative Star Wars prehistory. P.S. I translated it into Google and sent all complaints to their headquarters. Lol, I just finished a game yesterday with similar post-irony (Kujlevka)

For those who don’t know: the “DDR Rocket Scooter” is a real vechile (not German tho) and is called the Vespa 150 TAP and was used and made by the French against guerrillas in Algeria, it was a recoiless rocket that could pierce 100mm armor from 7,000 yards away and had to be airdropped, it was very easy to assemble, it had to fully stop moving to be able to fire (so this animation isn’t fact checked for it but oh well) Still a really good animation tbh
