Hanabie absolutely slaps. They are currently touring with Jinjer, both at the top of my favorites list. They literally have no bad songs but fan favorites include Be the Gal Summer Edition, Pardon Me I Have to Go Now, Reina Dating Apps Generation and Otaku Lovely Densetsu.

Hanabie starts as a cover band for Maximun the Hormone themes. Maximun the Hormone is a legendary band in Japan, more than 25 years "making noise" and a really crazy metal band. Metal in Japan can´t be explained without bands like this and of course bands like X-Japan or Show-Ya. Show-ya is one of the first metal bands really popular in Japan (from 1981 and still active) with an all-female formation. And yes, Babymetal is really popular in Japan, but they aren´t really a "metal band" in a traditional sense, they are more an idol group. Metal scene in Japan is really big, and Japan is the second largest music market worldwide.

The irony is that the two titles are unrelated. "Gimme Chocolate" refers to Valentine's Day in Japan (people give chocolate to the one they're in love with) and is intended as "tell me you love me". "Wareamatou" which is translated as "We Love Sweets" is literally "sweet tooth/hunger for sugar" and here is also meant as a metaphor for getting hooked on stuff getting too much of which is not good for you. Hanabie have quite a few songs about that particular topic since the members of the band get hooked on stuff a lot lol

Have you read the lyrics to Gimme Chocolate? It has pretty much exactly the same meaning as WLS. Never heard a Valentine’s take on it and the lyrics don’t fit that.

@@allanmoger1838 To elaborate now that I don't have to type with a thumb only 😅 It's not about the lyrics - it's the title and the phrase which is deliberately chosen to evoke the Valentine's Day ritual. It's what "giving someone chocolate" means. Maybe you haven't noticed it somehow, but over the years this song has constantly been associated with said day and Babymetal themselves have released dance videos and greetings and whatnot on the 14th of February using it. I even remember some Japanese reporter singing it during a live broadcast on Valentine's Day earlier this year, cause it popped in my Twitter feed 😄 This is not an either/or thing in the sense of does it mean this or does it mean that...

Thanks for that Darko US mention btw! I didn't know of them and just went through half a dozen songs and gotta say it's probably the first deathcore band that I truly enjoyed listening to. Their take on the genre seems to have a lot more going for it than just spamming breakdown after breakdown even though they are also doing that ofc lol

Welcome to Harajuku-core! *Hanabie* (ha-na-be-eh) named their music style after the famous Harajuku district that inspires their look and sound. It is famous for its street fashion, shopping, and youthful culture. As you heard, Harajukucore is an energetic mix of metal, electronic, rock, punk, rap, pop, and even traditional instruments. Their visual style is also influenced by the flamboyant gyaru (gal) styles. *Matsuri* (Gt. & Vo.), *Yukina* (Harsh Vo.), *Hettsu* (Bass & Vo.) all started out in an after-school club playing *Maximum the Hormone* covers. Over the years they have had several drummers including *Sae,* seen here in this video. *Chika* is their current drummer. They have a lot of songs about social issues in Japan, like sugar addiction, dating app abuse, and office life. But they always deliver that message in an entertaining way. Japanese is truly a metal hot-spot at this moment ! Hanabie got so many awesome tracks ... tousou - pardon me i have to go now - be the gal - and many more :) in this case, u need to check out: Passcode - Taking you out Broken by the Scream - Rising Sun Wagamama Rakia - Survive Unlucky Morpheus - Unending Sorceress especially these two bands: Shingeki - Inferno Maze - Silent Witness they get not enough attention :)
