I guarantee if you start to play it in a crowd, everyone will join in. I was in the DC Metro a while ago and there were some buskers on the platform singing acapella. They started singing "Sweet Caroline" and very shortly there was an entire platform of people dressed in suits and ties sing right along with them. I wish I had captured it on video.

That sexy voice. Still love it!! p.s. fun fact: Neil Diamond and Barbra Streisand went to high school together and were both in the school chorus. That must have been some recital. P.S. as to your question about current music - - I don't think they do. I pretty much love all music but there's a thick line between music made pre-1990 and post-1990. A BIG difference.

I can not believe you are reacting to "Sweet Caroline" (1969) from my favorite singer/songwriter Neil Diamond. He has touched my heart more than any other artist I have ever seen and heard. His songs are not political but are full of hope and love. And some songs are very deep and introspective like "I Am I Said" (1971). It deals with anxiety of feeling lonely, and depressed. It is a cry for help. He let the world know in that song how he felt...even though he had all the fame and riches anyone can dream of. Yet the loneliness would not let him go. This is what I love about his music and why he is unafraid to the let the world know of his frailties and shortcomings. Great reaction to a song that is sung around the world in stadiums, arenas, and every venue you can think of. One of the most iconic songs in history of music. Note: He was known as the Jewish Elvis...

Back in 1980 at the Grammys live broadcast, Neil Diamond & Barbara Streisand performed a duet of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". It was the very first time they sang it live. It's been called the "Original Grammy Moment" and instantly became of the classic television duets of all time. I remember watching it. They each entered from opposite sides of the stage to begin the song. I haven't been able to find a good quality KZbin video of that performance, but I hope somebody else can. Absolutely incredible performance.

One of my favorite singer songwriters spanning many decades. I had so many of his records. He had tons of hit songs. A great one to check out is "I Am, I Said". It is almost an autobiography of his life & fame. He wrote the song "I'm A Believer" which became a big hit for the Monkees in 1966. That song was later used in the movie Shrek & sung by Smash Mouth. I was privileged to see him in concert twice. He was a great showman & his live performances were memorable.

I, too, was privileged to attend a concert at Madison Square Garden ... will never forget the feeling of singing Sweet Caroline along with Neil and 30,000+ attendees! It felt like a huge heart beating in unison ... especially when everyone did the sound that the trompets usually do ... in this case it went "Sweet Caroline" and the audience went "Ah, Ah, Ah" It was great! Here is a video of a similar concert. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hJW8fISDiJWharM

Thank you so much for reacting to Neil Diamond! I lost my mom to Alzheimer's in 2020 and Neil was her favorite singer. She saw him in concert four times and she talked about how sexy he is so much (particularly his "cute butt") my stepdad was a little jealous. Even after Alzheimer's has taken almost all her memories, she'd could still sing along to Neil Diamond, as well as John Denver's "Almost Heaven West Virginia"and her favorite church hymns.

One of the best singer-songwriters and live performers ever. He has a huge catalogue to choose from if you want to do another review (Solitary Man, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Holly Holy, Dry Your Eyes, Beautiful Noise, etc.). He didn't write this for Caroline Kennedy though. It was a song for his former wife but he needed a three-syllable name and was inspired by a picture of Caroline Kennedy.
