Okay BP. I'm a 66-year-old Black woman who LOVES Neil Diamond. Just attended the musical based on his life and career called "A Beautiful Noise". Though it wasn't the real Neil on stage, it was fabulous, and it reminded me of this man's genius, charm, and longevity. He's great! He's still with us at 83, albeit with Parkinson's disease.

That is an excellent and well-written musical. Choosing to tell the story in that format, and around the lyrics of "I am" like that was just brilliant writing.

I have a bit of a story. I worked with a gentleman and he said when he lived in LA he had a neighbor that was a song writer. Every-once-in-awhile he would ask this gentleman to come over to critic a song. Well the neighbor moved and the gentleman found a lady and they got married. About 20yrs later the wife said she wanted to go see Neil Diamond. They are at the concert and the gentleman said "HEY! that's my neighbor!!!"

Stamina? This was 2012. He was 70. My wife and I flew cross country to attend this concert. Show went over two hours. No opener or intermission. When I first saw him in 1986, the shows were pushing every bit of three hours long. His stage entrances were God-like! The hair on the back of your neck stood up when he appeared on stage! My wife and I have been to hundreds of shows over the years. Everything from this to 90’s rock, oldies, R&B, Country, Blues, etc. Artists still with us and some now deceased. No one we saw before or since has ever given us that type of moment just walking onto a stage!

Neil Diamond here is quite elderly. His powerful voice is fading, but the gravel was always there and made his voice distinctive and amazing. This put a smile on my face today. Thank you. As a 60 plus lady I just wanted to add that we love tuning in to reaction shows by younger generations because it brings us back to the days when we were blown away by the awesome music of our time. Imagine waking up one day and hearing some of the amazing classic rock you've heard on this channel for the first time EVER PLAYED ON THE RADIO. That's how it was for us. And all of these genres were playing simultaneously. It was like going to a buffet restaurant and choosing which platinum record you were going to experience for the first time from every single serving offered. Anyway, it's fun to watch you experience these amazing talented musicians for the first time.

Sweet Caroline is one of the classic interactive songs for concert and also in bars. Some others being Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville," Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places," & David Allen Coe's "You Don't Call Me Darling." Neil Diamond doesn't perform these days due to his Parkinson's disease. He actually did a COVID version of Sweet Caroline back during the 2020 lockdowns (hands, washing hands, etc). Video may still be on KZbin. Loved your reaction. One of your best ones, BP. Yes, I'm one of your older (56) white crowd who grew up listening to Neil Diamond. My parents both loved his music & we played 45's on the old record player. "Shiloh," "Red, Red Wine," "Cracklin' Rose," & other songs would have us singing along.😊

You are blessed to have kids. Wish I had had them. But I love being an auntie or “cuzzin” to reactors younger than me and talking to other subscribers. You have a great base of fans here. I loved Neil Diamond as a kid. We spent many a road trip playing hockey listening to our parents’ 8 tracks. For another Neil tune you may want to check out Crackling Rosie. Another 1970s sing along is Smokie’s Living Next Door to Alice. Though if your kids sang along to that one you would be appalled. Cheers, buddy.

I did see a sell out concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he sold out the stadium ... it was the best concert I've ever been too with an eclectic crowd. It was a school night and he held the crowd till the end.... He actually got off the stage and walked the entire rodeo floor, gave well wished to a lady on the cell phone, whose mom was listening, he spotted the lady and took the phone from her ... God Bless those sparkly shirts and shinny shoes.

Neil's voice, and his storytelling, were masterful in his prime. My mom loved him, and as a young girl, I did too. His songs were some of the first I learned on my guitar. Mom took me to see him in concert, we had great seats, and he came stage left frequently, where we sat, and interacted with us. My first concert and it was, as you young 'uns say, a real banger. That was in Seattle at the Coliseum in 1972 and I was 12. See, I didn't have to tell you my age, you've already done the math! Neil Diamond was a song writer first, a singer second. He wrote songs for lots of other singers and groups. But he was never satisfied so ended up singing his own songs. Yes, this performance is at the end of his performing career and it's not his strongest voice. All of his music is stuck in my psyche. When I was a newborn, my dad would rock me to sleep to his "Hot August Night" album, which was a live performance from 1972, right before I was born.

This performance was fine all right, even though Neil's voice was a ghost of what it was. I am in awe of his timing, honed over many many years. For the full Neil Diamond experience, go for the 1972 concert at the Greek Theatre of Hot August Night. It's been called the greatest performance of all time and that's a plausible description imo. Crunchy Granola Suite is one of the bangingest songs ever - perfect marriage of music and words. Would like to see your reaction to that performance of that song. One of the things I like most about his music is that he gave equal weight to the words as to the music. Both are outstanding.

"Cracklin Rosie," Red, Red Wine, "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," "Thank the Lord for the Night Time," "Holly Holy," "Song Sung Blue" "Beautiful Noise," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" (with Barbra Streisand), and "Heartlight." i apologize if I left out someone's favorite but he has so many classics, I can't list them all. Honary mention should be made of the Monkees' hit "I'm a Believer" which Diamond wrote prior to his own career.
