Hi all! I'd like to clear up my pronunciation of the town we stayed in while visiting the Grand Canyon. We were in a town called Tusayan, Arizona, which is 1 mile from the Grand Canyon. Not Tucson, Arizona, which is over 300 miles from the canyon. On a map, you can find it near the South Grand Canyon entrance. Thanks and happy travels 🩷

Good job on explaining the buses in details. Nice video. We will be going at the end of July, 2023 for 2 days and will be staying at Yavapai Lodge at the village. I'm so excited, it's our first visit to GC. Years back I fall in love with Yellowstone and Bryce Canyon, and I know I'll fall in love with Grand Canyon as well! I can't wait!

Oh I bet you will love it! Be sure to take lots of water with you and watch out for the heat in July. Take lots of breaks and wear sunscreen, clothing/ hats to protect yourself. Maybe a hand fan, as well. Have a great trip!

@@gotravelwithstaci Have a question. Do we park car at visitor center and take bus shuttle to reach different view points ? Do we have option to drive within the national park?
@gotravelwithstaci
@gotravelwithstaci 2 жыл бұрын
@@sudeeppoonoth3595 When you buy your entry ticket (or show your annual pass) at the Ranger Station at the park entrance, they will give you a park map. Take a look at that map and find the points on the map you want to see most. I would then find the parking lots nearest to those points and park there. You can drive your car as far as the parking lots and you must walk to the points, or take the buses out to be dropped off at a point. Of course, yes, you can also just park at the main visitor center and take various buses to other points in the park. If you do this, I recommend getting in the park before 9am to beat traffic. Also, the viewpoints further away from the visitor center are less crowded. We enjoyed the western side of the park near Hopi Point and Hermit's Rest better than the visitor center because it was less crowded. Keep that park map and your entry receipt. You will need the map to reference and the entry ticket is good for several days but you need that receipt to re-enter the park if you leave. They cannot re-print a receipt. Take water with you out to the viewpoints. Hope this helps!

In 2016 myself and 3 buddies spent 3 days hiking down the S. Kaibab, hiking to Ribbon Falls, and hiking back out on the Bright Angel. We overnighted 2 nights in a cabin at Phantom Ranch (advance reservations required, difficult in prime tourism). The SK doesn't have any drinking water available from what I remember (perhaps seasonal, we hiked in winter), but the BA has multiple places you can stop and fill up. It was marvelous by the way.

Thank you for the video! Great tips and information! Visiting in two weeks. So for the red shuttle, are there multiple buses making stops? So if you get off at one of the stops along the way, walk around for awhile, another one will come eventually on the route you can get on? Like a jump on, jump off type situation? I love that you can choose to walk the trails to some of the places too! How awesome! What time of the day were you there? It doesn't look too busy/crowded!? Since we will be going beginning of April, i'll have to keep in mind to pack proper chilly attire! Thanks again!

Hi there. So sorry for my absence as I've been nursing a broken tailbone (amongst other things from my fall 🥴) I'm sure this won't help you now that your trip is over but maybe someone else reading this reply will get info out of it. Yes the buses run in loops so you can hop on/ hop off during shuttle hours. We visited in April and got there around 8-9am and stayed til closing, which was earlier since the days are shorter this time of year. In April, layering clothing is the way to go. You'll be chilly until the sun comes out or you get to walking, and then start peeling off layers mid-day if it's super sunny. Hope you had a great trip!

While on a walk near the Rim, we stumbled apon THE LARGEST ELK I've ever seen. MAGNIFICENT! The Grand Canyon is one of the most incredible places I've ever been. If you think your in good shape........ Think again! Prepare yourself to exaust yourself. Make sure YOU ALWAYS HAVE ENOUGH WATER! The South Rim has places to réhydrater or grab something, but they are far apart. Buses and trails are available and I would recommend using them. Always plan ahead as weather can change fast. A jacket is Always a good idea. ENJOY YOUR TRIP! Everyone should see it! My wife and I have been there several times and we see new things every time. You should carry food and water no matter where you go. DO YOUR HOMEWORK ahead of time. IT'S THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE; SEE IT!❤❤

Wow seeing the wildlife must've been exciting! I agree with you having water is paramount. Having a physical map and being able to locate water refill stations might be something that saves someones life. I was so happy the buses were there. We are able to walk a lot but even then, it was nice to walk all the way out to Hermits Rest, and take the bus back. As a nurse, I also find it nice when there are accommodations to help those who are less able to get around. They deserve to see these beautiful sights!

@@gotravelwithstaci As majestic as it was, for me, just alittle too close for comfort. I'm not a hunter myself, but both my cousins have been for their lives. Both told me this Elk was probably an older animal that clearly been around people. Any wild animal three times of Shaq I wanted no part of him! If you've never been to the North Rim, I would consider that a must. Especially now with the fall colors and alot less tourists. We went during Covid, My wife and I almost had the place to ourselves.

FREE admittance FOREVER to any and all National Parks for you and up to 3 others (in the same vehicle)! @@gotravelwithstaci Thanks but I have always felt we are very well taken care of. Case in point, I was having some stomach issues recently so I went to the Emergency Room at the VA Hospital. They determined I could need surgery but they didn't have any surgeons available at that time (3 AM) so they sent me via ambulance to a private (non-VA) hospital an hour away. I was in that hospital for 3 days. I'm fine now and just received the bill. It was $132. Total. The VA medical system is FAR superior to the expensive privatized health care we have in the U.S. So believe me when I say we are well taken care of. Thanks so much!

@gotravelwithstaci
@gotravelwithstaci Жыл бұрын
No that sounds like you booked a day tour and that is different from the park shuttle bus. Usually, day tours are hosted by independent companies who are not affiliated with the National Park Service. These tours typically include you transport from LV to the western entrance of the GC, and your entrance into the park. I would look at the tour details to see exactly what you get in the package your purchased.

I want to take my wife there, I’ve taken her many other great places but just planning this is a nightmare. The closest hotel on the rim is an hour and a half away from the closest airport and it’s not a commercial friendly airport so it’s recommended to fly in to Las Vegas and rent a car or hire a taxi for a 4.5 hour drive, are you kidding me? The hotels on the rim look like overpriced closets, with one exception, the Maswik lodge seems nice and affordable. El Tovar had gotten a ton of bad reviews lately and even has dropped to a 3 star rating, for $430 a night I’d expect better. But if you stay there apparently parking a vehicle is impossible so you have to basically fly into Vegas, take a taxi or Uber 4.5 hours away, coming and going. She really wants to go there but I’m trying to talk her out of it simply because of the inconvenience of it all. There has to be a better way to do this. If we drive there we will be on the road for 4 days of our ten day vacation, and that doesn’t include sleep. Please help me if you have any ideas. I really wish there was a closer commercial airport

I feel you on this one. Due to the park being more isolated, it can be tricky to get to. I can only tell you what we did personally and hope it will help. We flew into Flagstaff and rented a car to drive roughly 2 hours to Tusayan, Arizona. This little town is about 1 mile from the Grand Canyon South Rim entrance. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which was clean and safe and about $230/night. If you only want to take in the Canyon, doing it this way has you only driving about 4 hours round trip and getting to stay extra close the the park entrance. It was the most convenient trip I could arrange and worked out really well for us.

Fantastic video overall. However, from a personal safety and health standpoint, I'd probably abstain from drinking alcohol "during an active hike", as opposed to chilling at the end of a day of hiking. Alcohol also will dehydrate the body, and in particular given the elevation. Generally speaking, hiking and alcohol do not work well together, in particular in the moderate to grueling hiking environment that is the Grand Canyon.

We left our annual park pass at home on accident and had to purchase another ticket. The National Park Service aren’t able to look up your annual pass info, so it did cost us more $$ having to pay again when we already bought the annual pass.

I really really wantt o visit the north rim. Sadly we were just outside the time of year to go, but next time we will plan to visit in the warmer months when it is open. I would love to see bison in the wild.

I was not taken by Grand Canyon. I found it boring with the same sights and colors in 360 views. It's a good spot for hikers but not for sightseers looking for beautiful views. Sedona might be a better place fo rme - more varied colors and different views.

I felt like each destination on our road trip (Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, Arches National Park) offered equally beautiful views. Something for everyone.
