We Made Our Own Traditional ROMANIAN FOOD 🇷🇴

Romania has great food, we could sample some of it so far but we mostly get stuck at the Mici which we love so much. This traditional food has its roots in the Balkans where it is all around known under different names, most famously probably in Serbia as ćevapi, but yes, here known as Mici. Let´s see how this went.

Looks good! The only thing we would do different as Romanians would be bread - we never eat sausage or mici without bread. Some of the more older generation would not even touch any food if there's no bread on the table. The mici are also better if you make them on an grill, with charcoal - the char really adds to the flavor. As for dips, everything goes, it's up to you. Set the mustard near the grill as you cook, it helps if it's not thick and stone cold. But yea, it's supposed to be simple and rustic, don't overthink it.

Mici or chevapci are not coming from Bosnia. These are originally turkish. Receipes modified(adapted) by different countries. For example in Romania it is used baking soda in composition, manwhile Serbia or balkans they do not use it. Baking soda is making mici more juicy. Made of lamb or beef mostly in the balkans in the same time in Romania are from pork or beef pork or beef lamb. Mici never eat without bread in Romania. Mustard is more soft here that is why we use a lot snd is a must. Another rule is better to cook them in the fry pan than the owen. You will produce a lot of smoke but you will keep the juiciness.

Okay, thanks for this, I usually make it in the frying pan anyway. I did not know it was Turkish, they said in the internet it comes originally from Serbia but I guess Turkey makes sense.

Had a great conversation with you guys couple years ago when you were coming up North through Thailand (Prachuap train station) ... How do you keep your kids normal moving around all the time? Do they have friends? Not my place to judge, but strikes me as kind of a Mosquito Coast scenario ... Would be curious how you manage your 3 kids in tow ...

I remember when we met. The kids have friends, of course they always meet new kids but certain friends they keep in contact. Not really like Mosquito coast, also they are three and are the three best friends. Not a problem to manage at all.

Romanians are fine with east European location, known as the cradle of Europe after all. Unlike Balkans the Romanian mici (which means little) are made of pork and beef mix. You know why everything is pork there? Because the pork is the only meat the Muslim Ottomans or Tatars wouldn't want to snitch from the people, in over 500 years of constant looting campaigns.
