I was learning about Roman wax tablets in my history class, and I think that it would be a fun addition to your belt pouch. They were wooden frames that had wax in them. You could write in the wax with a wooden stylus and erase later. I really enjoyed the video. Have fun at comic con!

Heck yeah! I love that folk are starting to realise there's more to bards than lutes and lasciviousness. In fact, my best bard was indeed also a Storyteller! Kept a list of Aesops Fables to bust out-of-context quotes from as Bardic Inspiration, let Narrative Causality guide his actions.

That's a bad-ass build! The dripless inkwell was genius! I'd love to make something like that myself! Now, to make that sweet outfit Burgschneider sent more personal with some weathering or personal character bits (other than the awesome bit of kit you just built, of course) like embroidery, or sewn on braid.❤

the cloth for cleaning the nib is a cool addition, especially if you dont want ink on your clothes, but i think it'd be a super cool character detail if the bard just smeared ink on their pants right by the pouch, solely because it's more convenient than the cloth. Like, it'd be the quill equivalent of wiping the blade of your sword on your pants to clean it really quickly. I mainly think it'd be cool because the ink stain would be a really cool bit of visual storytelling. Like, imagine the bard's pants all have basically the same ink stain on the front of their thigh *because* of this quill. And they could totally keep the cloth, so they can properly clean the cloth (swordsmen often keep cleaning supplies for their swords to be properly serviced when they have the time)

Perhaps you should angle your quill to the other diagonal. It would make the quill easier to "draw" and "holster". plus it would then match the logo on the cover.

The other thing you could do about the leftover ink on the pen is create a wooden pen cap with the foam in it so the pen tip goes into the cap and the foam soaks up the leftover ink as well as doubles as a small inkwell with the leftover ink.

Another fantastic project, and so well made too! I love the quill you've got, but in that period the flights of the goose feather would be removed from the actual quill, leaving it bare! (The flights were, I belive, used as arrow fletchings) also you should have a little penknife in your kit to cut new quills!)

I recently saw this about the quills being featherless. Makes more sense if you imagine them in a cup on a desk. Fluffy tops would be in the way, knocking the cup over often.

Historically that sort of slit sleeve was most used by 16th century landsknecht mercenaries, who dressed VERY over the top (and were also known for their elaborate, oversized codpieces). Can't say that doesn't fit the stereotypical DnD bard though. Appreciate going for more of the battle-skald approach. Better practice up on your off the cuff insults. ;)

Hey, man! I've always really admired your craftsmanship and attention to detail- I'd hate to see you disrespect your craft and that of other artists by beginning to use MidJourney in your work, given their history of art theft, black box policies, and a generally unethical approach to AI. I was really enjoying the video and then my brain screeched to a halt when you said you made the insignia with AI. ...hon...please...I like ya...please don't go down the AI route. AI works off of images without consent from the original artists. It compiles and photo manipulates those images into what you generate, but the "art" cannot be yours, as it is essentially stolen. PLEASE be careful. In a case like this, where it's a component for a project and just a generic image, fine, but Skill Tree is about making art and developing skills ourselves, right? I don't want to see the channel go down a path of stealing art for the sake of ease. Just make the art yourself, or commission an artist! Again, for something this simple it's not that big of a deal, but...
@notsew008
@notsew008 11 ай бұрын
honestly you should have just had your artist make the isignia rather than midjourney. Hell you could have easily done it yourself. But I tend to shy away from ai "art"

I assume you're not aware that midjourney steals and uses the art of folks all over the internet for it's "creations" I hope as a fellow artist and creator you would be opposed to the theft that midjourney engages in.

I will say, the nibs and ink that come with those amazon kits are kinda second rate. For a premium writing experience, I recommend getting different nibs from a trusted brand like brause, and for a more authentic writing experience, look for a good iron gall or indelible ink (I like J Herbin's Authentic Ink, but it might not be dark enough for some). If you don't particularly care about "accuracy" but still want performance, you can look at comic artist inks from Kuretake or Deleter, or calligraphy inks like Calli's Jet Black India ink. Always wash new nibs in isopropyl alcohol to remove the protective storage coating from the factory so that the ink will cling to them when you dip, make sure to clean your nibs with nib cleaner after use, or they'll rust.
