This is truly a sign that your are all humble and open to learn as well as brave enough to take on such a huge project. You have all come such a long way in knowledge, experience and most of all showing some of us out here how to be humble and thankful. God is blessing you all and I for one am happy to have found your site. Thank you also for your humor that will get you through anything LOLOL. Good JOB.

It is looking so so great !!!!! Jules.... i feel you with the taller son situation... I'm left behind with all 3 of my kiddos. My 18yr old son is 6ft 5inches, my 15yr old son is right on 6ft so far.. and my daughter is just a couple inches taller than me at 5ft 7inches. My husband is 6ft 6inches, so who knows where the boys will stop.

I would suggest you mark out on the top plates the location of every truss now. It is important to do this because you should ideally have a stud below it to help transfer the weight down to the foundation. This is also the time you will want to install bracing boards for things like the sink, towel holder, tp holder, and railing up the stairs. It will make things like cabinets a breeze to install into the wall. No more guesswork about where studs are. You can start marking out for locations of outlets and switches such.

I know hind sight is 20/20 but I’m thinking I would have cut the wall into two sections at the 2x6, 2x4 offset and flipped the 2x4 wall up the right way. With the top plate in place and both walls being nailed to the floor I think it would have been ok. But you’ve solved your issue so now it’s just part of the experience. Overall you and your family are doing a great job. Really enjoy your videos.

The ladder you're using to get from the ground up to the second floor should be 3 feet above the floor. If you were working on a construction job OSHA requires that. It's for your safety. I know you're trying to save money however you should look into getting some pump jacks to use for installing your siding they would also help with a safety Factor when you're doing your roof and make life easier. I don't know of any place that rents them. Keep up the good work.

My Mom had to carry my birth certificate around because every sports league I was in always thought I was to old to play in that league. I was 12 playing in 13-14 league because to be eligible you had to be either 13 or 14 on the last day of the season which was August 28 usually and luckily my birthday is August 12th. I just found your channel. Sorry for the long post but sometimes I can't help myself. I really enjoy construction/building channels. Anyway, I spent 27 years doing structural engineering and designed hundreds of homes, some even in Idaho :-) ... that being said, regarding your header issue, it's not the easiest thing to tell from the video but it looks like the perimeter truss supports the wall above and the roof trusses will not be sitting on this portion of the wall. WARNING: Technical mumbo jumbo below I figure 3-2x8 SYP #2 is sufficient for the load bearing capacity IF your snow load is 120# or less. Some areas of Idaho are as much as 366#. Your local building department can give guidance on this number. Sandpoint proper is 57#. Assumptions LL = L/360 DL = L/240 Span 8'-0" Floor Load 40# LL 10# DL Tributary span (half the distance between supporting members) 1'-0" Wall Load 10# DL Tributary span (wall height) 10'-0" Roof Load 16# LL 15# DL Tributary span of 3'-0" (2'-0" overhang and trusses 2'-0" on center) Snow Load 100# Member required is 3-2x8 SYP #2 (alternatively 2-2x10, 3x12, 4x10, 6x8 and can be DF#2 Not SPF) Load is 1360# LL 657# DL on each end of the header Minimum (1) Jack stud (trimmer) 1 1/2" bearing each end Bending overdesign = 26.0% Shear overdesign = 31.5% Deflection overdesign = 94.6% Maximum live load deflection 0.137" Maximum total load deflection 0.203" Before I took everything apart, I'd make every effort to verify whether what is there is sufficient. From what I can tell, it is more than enough. Again, that is some beautiful framing you have going on there. I'd be proud to have you make mistakes on one of my projects.

If you chalk all your lines before you frame, you can cut you plates to length and lay them where they go. You can then mark your walls where they intersect when you do your layout and you won't need to plumb them individually, just plumbing exterior will do the trick. You can put your top plates on before you stand them as well. Faster and saves a lot of up and down ladders. Where the 2x6 turns to a 2x4 it's best and much stronger if you rip at least 4' of that 2x6 down to 2x4. You don't want that break in your plate so close the that intersection. When you marry your walls put a pull nail in the end of your plate. Leaving the head out about an inch. You can hook your hammer on it to pull your walls together nice and tight. Rip a piece of osb to 3 1/2 and nail it between the 2x4s to make your headers and put them in upright. Much stronger. To remove those trimmers you can cut wedges about 2 inches to nothing about 6" long. You can drive that between the boards to separate them. I enjoy watching you guys. I know I'm late on this advice but I hope it can help in the future. Awesome family and your doing a really good job. If more families were like you, the world would be a better place !

Fascinated that Americans often don't just use noggings {noggins} and steel tape bracing to keep the walls square instead of OSB cladding. In Australia where we have the biggest houses, on average, in the world the OSB method is rarely used.

Do you have as many trees for OSB as we do? They grow like weeds here and Canada. Maybe that is why we use it.

Not to nitpick but I've never heard it called a crown plate before...always a top plate. Thought I was going to learn something so I googled it. Turns out out never heard it called a crown plate either. Only a top plate. Love your videos.
