Thank you so much! ❤️ We were actually already thinking about moving to Canada in 2018 and tackled it in 2019. Then the pandemic hit and we had to cancel our plans. Years passed and I still really wanted to leave Germany and start a new adventure in my life. I became also really depressed during the winter. Canada wasn’t an option anymore though, as we got older and didn’t got enough points for the Fast Entry immigration program anymore. So we began searching for a new country, but one that isn’t too warm in summer and too cold in winter. We checked out Tenerife, but I wasn’t super excited. Finally we spent some days in January on Madeira and we instantly fell in love with the island! The weather is very consistent and nice, it’s blooming all year, people are lovely and the country is amazing! Plus it’s only a 4 hours direct flight to all our friends and family!

Taxes are way lower than in Germany, which must be nice when you are a succesful KZbinr. German KZbinrs are almost a bit of an epidemic on Madeira, mostly for that very reason. :D

How did you get a visa to live there? Now they don’t even give a Schengen visa for tourism - they write a formal refusal and say that they don’t want people to move to live with them. And at the same time they do not return a large processing fee.@@KamuiCosplay

It is the most stressful thing in "normal" life: moving. I know we don't see the screams and tears that go with this kind of life changing event. But for most people I don't think we'd be able to piece together a twenty minute video on the transition highlights! Way to stay positive and see the joy and potential in your new adventure. I'm sure it was an epic effort to pause life and focus on this move...and still stay upbeat and share with us this video. It's truly inspiring and amazing. Now, here's a toast to you getting back to making more cool stuff out of foam, plastic and fabric in your island paradise!

In my first 20 years, my family moved from New York to Santiago to New York to Washington to Brussels to Washington to Den Haag to Washington. The stress of long-distance (especially international!) moves was absolutely crazy and we had nothing like your workshop, costumes, props, etc. etc. etc. to worry about. I can't imagine the stress of seeing all your handiwork and livelihood disappear into shipping containers... I'm *so* glad everything came through OK and that it's all working out! I recently spent a week in Madeira, and it was amazing! You never get bored of the levada hikes. I will say, some roads are so steep they're basically vertical so hope you have a good car!

Yep, it's a money thing. Madeira is a well known tax-haven. The only reason KZbinr's move there is so that they can pay less taxes and make more money. It's a bit gross, tbh. On top of that, living expenses are way lower in southern Europe... As a successful KZbinr, you can basically live like a god over there, whereas Germany is much more expensive and taxes are higher.
