Thanks for the nice sailing shots. What made you chose the B&G instruments over other brands. I'm looking to buy some new insruments soon. Also, what was the spark that made you decide to buy a new yacht and start a new lifestyle aboard?

I suppose I have had a bit of experience with the BnG instruments so I went with what I know. But, I love the sailsteer features and the MFD are good. Why a new boat? Well that goes to your third question in some ways. We were talking about what we should do in our retirement and where we should live when Jude proposed that we buy a boat and sail the world. Of course I had to think about this for two seconds before agreeing. Once made that decision we worked through the when factor and decided there was no time like the present so a five year plan when to a two year plan to a one year plan. So part of the decision around a new boat was being able to start with a known quantity, i.e. used boats come with unknown problems. Well all boats come with problems but on new boats you know what you are getting. The other factor for new was that we could control the timeframe. Good second hand boats were selling quick so there was no guarantee when we could get a boat and then what we would need to do with it to get it ready.

The third consideration for a new boat was that our plan is to be out on this adventure for 10-15 years and over that period what you spend starts to even out so we might as well enjoy a new boat rather than an old one. However, if you want to do this and all you can afford is an old boat then make it happen.
