There is always hope, but if one has the presence of mind to make a life assessment of their goose well and truly being cooked and realistically destined too eek out a future likely to deteriorate with age what altruistic benefit is there to be brought to the table apart from easing said suffering?

Yeah, he's doing alright last I heard. Thanks for asking. I think we talked two weeks back, and it was all about gardening and getting back into spring for ol' Bill. His health isn't the greatest. But hopefully the warmer weather will help.
