There IS a drive / boost block included, it is just hidden, masquerading as faux amp controls (I just realized this myself). The capture already has preferred EQ settings baked in. Under 'advanced settings' you find an entire 3 band parametric EQ including a gain control and you can move it pre or post! You can use the EQ as your boost / OD pedal, it will just look a bit goofy as the controls on the amp are moving. Granted, for full flexibility there should be two EQs, one for pre + post EQ. Curious if that would work for you :) follow up vid plz? That said: I'd love companies like Amalgam offering DI captures ot overdrive + amp, that would solve the entire issue of not having a drive block.

the little mini tonex one has 1.5 latency.. just add all the boosts on the little pedal. It's not like anyone is carrying tonex in their pocket anyways.. maybe the one, but not the big dog it would be a pocket buster. The little tonex can hold all the drives you'd possibly need and is a mini pedal.

Great video. The capturing process through the software has a perk which I can’t find in the cortex universe. You can capture your tones/ rigs/ or whatever through great sounding pre amps and great sounding converters. With the cortex captures you can do that too but the last step is and always will be, the converters from the cortex and not whatever you have in your studio. For lots of users this can be fine and „good enough“. But if you have top of the line pre amps (Rupert Neve, SSL, Heritage Audio) and converters (UAD, RME…) in your studio, then you are definitely better off using them to capture everything.

That's a really good point, and another reason I see a lot of pro studios using Tonex over QC. I don't think NDSP can compete there unless they make a stand alone capturing app (I don't think they ever will)

Cool times for guitar tones. Just learned that Hotone Ampero 2 is also getting a capture tech (currently in beta) that seems quite good according to Leo Gibson's video. I think that IK should try to add a boost (even just as a kind of a linear eq + volume boost) to ToneX. It would not add a lot of DSP load but can make a big difference in tweaking high gain tones.

It's funny that tone capture devices are adding effects and that the Ampero Stage ( still in beta I think) and Ampero 2 modeler multi effects are now adding capture functionality! It would be interesting to have you try it out if you still have the stage! Plus, in theory the ampero would solve the overdrive issue both of those units have since you can move any blocks as you wish! I must admit that new fucntionalities popping up on device is on thing that's pretty cool about software!

I had already purchased Amplitube and I didn't understand the point of Tonex especially as someone who doesn't intend to do live giggine. I bit the bullet and decided to buy Total Studio Max v4 on sale ($105 after Jam points). SO I gave Tonex a try and WOW! I totally get it now. The modeled amps sound more raw and realistic to me than Amplitube's sims. I actually went back and swapped out some of the Amplitube amps with Tonex amps in most of my songs while maining the Amplitube effects chains. Really cool that Tonex is getting it's own set of effects too.

there is another important note to add: Tonex allows you to save your captures into files in the pc that you can export, sell etc, while for nano cortex there is only the phone app and apparently there is never going to be a pc software (their words), there is no way to save your own captures locally or edit the patches via pc, which for me is the deal breaker. I don't trust having everything saved only in the cloud and I want to create my own patches in the comfort of my pc, my monitors etc. Really a pity.

@@JimijaymesProductions That makes no sense, if I need to connect to a PA system live, what are they gonna do? Most modelers I have have the right output for live use
@JimijaymesProductions2 ай бұрын
@@BlazonStone plug it into a DI and bring it down to mic level before it goes into the mixing desk mic preamps, as they would with most setups anyway (an engineer would usually just pad unbalanced line outputs anyway). Yeah most modellers are end to end solutions, often with xlr outputs not designed for integrating into existing rigs. Tone x is more a guitar pedal that does amp capture modelling. The problem if it was true line level is that you couldn't use guitar pedals after it like delays, reverbs, modulation etc (some high end ones can handle line level but most can't especially analog). Also as an engineer I personally hate unbalanced line level, you have to pad the DI then the SNR gets worse (because signal gets boosted up and brought back down by 040db and then up back up again) and being unbalanced you can't run it across the room like you would balanced line level. I agree though that IK should make a more professional version, true stereo with switchable line/mic level xlr outputs (or at least balanced outputs) as well as instrument outputs.

@@BlazonStone I need a line level signal to drive my rack effects. Simple trick that works for me. Set the compressor up for post vs pre.
