A friend inherited his grandmother's '63 Ford Galaxie, 352 Windsor, 4 bbl, dual exhaust, along about 1973. This car had low miles, literally drove to the grocery store and church, yeah, one of them. It smoked like a mosquito fog truck! Billowing clouds out the tail pipe. Two shops told him it needed an engine rebuild, had low compression. So... we poured snake oil in the crankcase, took it out for a rip, changed the oil, poured in more snake oil, ripped it around town for a week... smoke started getting better... another oil change and more snake oil... got better... after about a month, that engine didn't smoke at ALL! Sometimes there's a place for "snake oil" and it DOES work! Your little Ranger... case in point.

as one of the overlords, I demand you do things YOUR way. I have watched you for a long time and I almost always learn from you. I don't want to stop learning. If you have rotors on the back with drum brakes for parking brakes, this is a valuable lesson for people who want to fix their parking brakes. One thing I find enormously funny is the fact that many different brands are made by the same company. A good example is the Craftsman tool set I have. The exact same set is sold under at least 3 different brand names. The only difference is the name stamped onto the tools. They even have identical boxes. I am saying this to point out that parts stores don't make their own brand parts. They are made by the major companies with the parts store's name put on them. I looked up the spreader bar for the parking brakes. O"Reilly auto parts have them so you don't need to hunt in E Bay

I'm a shade tree mechanic who has been wrenching on his own cars for 30+ years and never once have I seen anything in your videos that would necessitate a criticism. Everyone does things differently and after a while they get a feel for what works in their situation. Suppliers, climate and customer appetite for cost savings vs quality are all factors that play into what parts you purchase and use on your customers cars. I also follow Eric O at South Main auto but guess what? he lives in New York in the rust belt with winter so he uses different techniques and products than you do in Florida but doesn't make it wrong or better. I live in Yukon Canada so I always buy the most powerful battery, and use the thinnest synthetic oil that the manufacturer allows. Its contextual to the climate. @@Pwills easiest way to install springs is put a small box wrench over the mount post and slide the spring down the wrench 🔧

You also have to remember, automotive is a customer driven industry. If the customer says "I want a BG induction service" the customer gets a BG induction service weather the mechanic agrees with it or not. You can't charge for a service that isn't performed. If it is your own personal vehicle, do what you feel is best. (I used BG as an example because that's what I used when i was a mechanic)

I had a 92 Ranger with the same engine in it. It was the fastest and easiest timing belt I ever did. There is basically nothing in front of the timing covers, making for easy access to the timing components.

You have to take the customer’s financial situation. If the customer said “here is a blank check, go for it”. Why shoot a parts canon at it when you can fix a car doing what you by using fuel and engine cleaners
@MonkeyJedi994 ай бұрын
A 'REAL' blank-check customer would drop off the title with the pickup and go buy new. That is the mindset that modern manufacturers have been working very hard to inculcate in the modern consumer.

@@MonkeyJedi99 Kind of a fact with some European sports cars. 15,000 mile oil change because the only driver they care about, the original buyer, will sell after 30,000 miles. What happens after that isn't their problem.

I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee XJ. Original owner. I have used BG cleaner, Seafoam, Amsoil, STP on my Jeep since it's first fluid changed. 213,000 miles later, the Jeep is in great condition. Let's find out how many vehicles, the haters have gone through, due to being worn out. I bought the Jeep, new, in 97 for 14,800 and still going strong. A fool is what a fool does. All talk and no show.

Ray, you do a good job! Showing the boxes that parts come in is normal and reasonable. I appreciate when I can see what brands you use, it helps me.

That BG cleaner worked so good on an older truck or car I might just use it once a year. If other people say its snake oil ill raise snakes. The change in how that motor was night and day. If anyone doesn't think it worked They didn't pay attention.

Firstly, it's fantastic when an old car like this is running again. It has charm and character, in contrast to the electric vehicles. Secondly, you explain it so well that even my grandma could now repair the car.

I know quite a few people who would pay reasonable money for that sort of truck. Small trucks used to be utility vehicles. Now we just have rolling Barcaloungers.

@@cengebthere isn’t no such thing as a obsolete vehicle, as long as it goes front point A to point B no matter the age, especially when it comes to environmental means, the longer you can keep it on the road the better for the environment. The only time a vehicle becomes obsolete is when it does not run and is not worth fixing and is just taking up space. The only other time a vehicle is really obsolete for most means is when they are fully electric no matter the age. In my opinion 90’s and 2000’s vehicles are also more reliable and definitely have more charm (Better looking).

Ray! You’re letting idiots get to you why? It’s time to tuffen up! I let nothing bother me ever! My wife said I have no heart! But she knows I do because she is my pride and joy for 32 years and my loving daughter for 21 years as long as they’re happy that’s all that matters. Now just take care of yourself and family that’s all that matters! You are an awesome person, there will be always someone trying to make you feel like crap let it go! The mustang brake install was done backwards on purpose. They don't do well going forward so backing up with good braking power is more important.

look at it this way, as long as the trolls are leaving comments, they are actually helping your channel by making the youtube algorithm high, which in turn makes your channel do good. so they are not hurting you like they think they are, they are making you even better LOL>.. now i just need more trolls on my channel to help me because i dont have many commenters on my videos.

Bicycle guy is using the sidewalk, but given the lack of shoulder on that road, he made the best of three very bad choices. 1) Get run over on the road where he is "supposed" to ride. 2) Ride on the sidewalk where he is not supposed to ride and end up in stop line conflicts. 3) Ride on peoples' lawns.

Yes Ray, you are quite a character and that is why I like to watch your videos. I'm not going to use anything I watch you do on your videos myself because I am old and bodily unable, but I still learn, so I can sort of speak intelligently when I go to the mechanic. And I enjoy your ability to describe things so that just about anyone can understand and you do it with some comedy/character. Gravity. Phalanges. Click. Words. Brake cleaner. A few minutes later. And so many more.

Thank you Ray! I changed out my drum brakes the other week on my older car, had issues with one side dragging and smoking... thought I'd just adjusted the parking brake too tight... Just heard your "short shoe up front" comment and realized I zoned out on that... Looked my "after" photos and I think I mixed up the four shoes... both short on one side of the axel and both long on the other 😳

Watching you do those brakes was like the first time I did the same. You took it apart, so you MUST be able to get it back together, but "Oops, I forgot the thing" keeps rearing its ugly head. I agree that there is certain smug satisfaction to be had in seeing the whole thing back together and thinking "I did that!"

Hi Ray, I'm not a mechanic but I do minor repairs to my own vehicles when I can. I think you are a fantastic mechanic, it amazes me how you diagnose vehicles by process of elimination. Guess you can say I'm a little jealous of your abilities lol. I also want to say I have a 2003 Pontiac Aztek that I bought in 2005 with 33,000 miles on it. When it had 35,000 miles I switched to Amsoil and today it has 312,000 and going strong. Amsoil is fantastic! I really enjoy watching you work, I feel like I have learned a lot by watching your videos. Your wife seems so nice as she is always smiling. Don't change your ways, absolutely no need. Thanks for reading this. Have a great day! Bryan
