I agree.... Being an owner operator myself I rely on equipment noise to make sure I don't have any mechanical issues.... and in Chris's case.....this so-called background noise is nothing different than any other video that I've seen since I started watching him 2 years ago.

If people learned to adjust their audio (treble/bass and or Equalizer) the sound would be fine on their end. for me it is excess bass (across multiple apps) which I fixed using EQ =) Then again most people think MP3 sounds great. hahaha

Hey Chris, great video. Re sound quality, Iike others, I enjoy hearing the machine sounds but I did notice some switching in recording tone and volumes. Some examples are around 5:15, 5:36, 10:04, 16:12 if you want to have a listen. Maybe it will help you figure out what's happening. (We could almost hear all of the conversation you and Tim were having while working on the fore pond...so we can hear just fine!) Cheers!

Chris, for the sound, it seems to "auto gain"; so when you don't speak for a moment it will automatically increase the sound recording volume, making the machine seem louder. Also, if the mound is on a metal part of the machine, without rubber in the mount, the metal will transmit the sound through the support it is on, also increasing the noise by vibration transmission.
@63256325N4 жыл бұрын
The trick is to try to isolate the camera from the body of the machine. Some sort of a semi soft rubber pad thick enough to pad but thin enough so the magnet still works. It's the vibration/harmonics that the camera are picking up on but you probably know that. Hope you can sort it out. Thanks for the video.

The noise is coming through the camera mount not through the air. The vibrations of the engine and pumps are in the walls of the cab and the glass and are shaking the mic. Take the camera off the mount and hold it in your hand for a second then put it back and see if the large background noise level goes away. Your voice also shifts from the center to the right dolby channel sometimes...don't know that that is a camera problem. Get a wireless mic and clip it on your shirt. that's the only way to stop the vibration noise from getting into the camera... Love watching you work. You are really gifted to be able to see and move those machines like that. Thanks for sharing it with us.

It's natural background noise, that is part of what you hear. But if you want to look at it, here is what GoPro suggested. In Protune, turn on RAW Audio to capture an uncompressed version of audio in a separate 4-channel WAV file.

The camera might be picking up the sound through vibration of the casing. You could try a mount with rubber standoffs that will isolate it from the machine.
@woodywoodman23192 жыл бұрын
I prefer hearing the equipment too! I think the balance between your voice and equipment is perfect! I think the differences people are hearing is from the camera mount, and/or location of it, picking up vibrations differently! Please... don't change a thing!

Just trying to help. At 24 :08 your dump truck in the background is sitting there with the box left up. OSHA can cite you if the truck is unattended with the box up and not supported with the safety bar For safety At 23:30 your helper should be wearing Hi Vis green. Right now they blend in perfectly with the dirt piles. Hitting them would not be good.

the camera is always going to pick up the equipment noise because the vibrations translate through the camera mount to the camera speakers. The only way that you will reduce the equipment noise is with an external microphone that is on a special kind of mount. i sent you an e-mail about it and a solution.

Hay Chris, it does sound like you have the GoPro ridged mounted in the cab and what you are mounted to carries the equipment noise into the mike of the GoPro. An isolation mount may fix that but if the GoPro has more Fidelity in it audio you will have to fix the audio in the movie editor audio settings. Post processing the audio to reduce the equipment noise and increase your voice. Don’t eliminate the equipment noise as it adds to your videos.

Just a thought, don't mount your camera magnet direct to the cab. Make sure you have a rubber isolation between the camera & the solid steel frame of the cab/roll bar. Or get a mike that attaches to your shirt & don't use the built-in camera mike.

Sound is usually fine. I only remember 1 or 2 that you were a little quite on. If I remember also, you got a new GoPro and the 7 & 8 have different mic locations (3, I think) in the case so they are waterproof. I heard this is giving people some problems sometimes. But, like most everyone who watches you, we like the commentary and the machinery noise too.

I use these mics on my voice recorders, and the coolest thing about them is we hear things as you hear it. So like for example if a dump truck passes from your left side to your right side and you’re swinging, we will hear that drive-by. And we will also hear you swinging.
@ljtlove45193 жыл бұрын

The problem with the newer go pro models is they went with a cheaper mic pre- which is what sets your mic volume. And the cheaper that preamp is The crappy or it’s going to sound. What I would recommend is getting some role in the EM S10 innermonitors. And what these will allow you to do is you can hook one plug in the headphone jack, and the other in to your microphone Jack and it will sound pretty awesome with those. Essentially what they are is your buds with microphones on the outside of them. And a pro tip when you’re recording with these mics make sure your go Pro is on its lowest audio setting so that way if there is a sound louder than 60 dB it will not cause popping in your microphones

Hey Chris....is it common for the engineers to not include elevations on those ponds ?? I had a similar situation on a job I was gonna bid last month for some generator pads with trenches across a driveway and two deep pits next to the warehouse which were supposed to house two large outdoor sump pumps for wastewater treatment into a holding tank up on a hill to the side of the building....the "as built" drawings were stamped by the TWP building department but weren't stamped by an the engineer who drew them...no depths , elevations.. sand quantities or requirements listed as to whether or not it was necessary and the G.C. said just " figure everything on the high side" just in case you need sand, and other materials ! Really ?? Sure thing buddy.... Needless to say the job still hasn't been awarded ! Gee... I wonder why ??!! LOLOL

Over here most charge part load if you have less than 6 cubic metres ( about 7.5 cubic yards) and waiting time if they are waiting longer than 30 mins.on site. Some also charge if you can't take all that's ordered and you are unable to ditch it on site.
