Well, I've loved 'em since I discovered them in '78. Found "POWERAGE" under "A" at Two Guys Record Dept. Vineland, NJ, when I was just a ROCK loving pre-teen & budding young guitarist. And man, it was Love at first feel...I mean sight! That stunning, colorful, insane Powerage album cover, with it's lightning-centric logo 'n title. Bought it on the spot. Never looked back. AC/DC "very quickly" became one of those "life changer" artists/bands that made my young life very exciting and very inspired. Pretty hard to even do a Top 5, what with my love and adoration of the Bon Scott era (I mean, look, the very night of the news of Bon's death (2/20/80), I called my local radio station, WYSP, and talked to the DJ about this brutal loss for rock n roll. At the end, I asked for him to play "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" as not only a good representation of Bon himself, but of his wit, swagger and chutzpah as a singer and lyricist. He agreed and played it. So obviously, it's hard for me to not include any one of the excellent Bon Scott era LPs. Each one carries it's own kind of endearing magic. That said, I love the first 3 with BJ very much as well. Before I do this, I have to say, as a core AC/DC fan since the late 70s (living and breathing this band through those essential years, seeing them on every tour from Highway To Hell through Razors Edge) .... hearing Hack's choice of "Blow up Your Video" as a Top 5 album(??) is just laughable. To each his own, but c'mon, man. That album is absolutely one of their worst. Moreover, Martin is absolutely right about "Flick Of The Switch" That is a great, visceral, band produced record! And it's Wayyyyyyy better than that echoey Blow up Your Video mess. Okay, there are a couple of good tracks, but overall...please. It's a bottom 5 for sure. *I do agree with you about "For Those About To Rock" though. Underrated, fantastic album. "Back in Black" obviously cast a very large shadow, but judged on it's own, FTATR is a brilliant and highly catchy, consistent LP. And nice to hear someone bring up "Breaking The Rules" too. Great song that I've always championed, as is most every track on that album ("Evil Walks," "C.O.D.," "Inject The Venom," "Snowballed," not to mention the epic title track and the tight-groove single, "Let's Get it Up"...all those are excellent too) I understand the comment, but I do not find it a weak tea version of BIB. I find it to be a record that, while admittedly not as magnificent, is still an engaging, killer LP. For me, it's just the "gold" colored Back In Black. Heh. Like it that Martin mentioned those great color coordinated "Atlantic center labels" of the first 3 Johnson era albums. I personally loved that cool aesthetic touch to each of them (black/silver, gold/black, white/black) Artistic things like this only add to the overall impact of the record at hand. But let me finally post my list, which is difficult and separated by the thinnest of margins, because they're all monumental, uptopian ROCK albums, esp 1-4: 1. LET THERE BE ROCK (1977) 2. HIGHWAY TO HELL (1979) 3. BACK IN BLACK (1980) 4. POWERAGE (1978) 5. FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK (WE SALUTE YOU) 1981 ∆ have to add that not including T.N.T ('75) / High Voltage (1976) and Flick of The Switch (1983) was extremely painful, Mr. Verrell. But hey, this is set up as a Top 5 only, so what can ya do. For the record though, I adore those albums as well. I also feel that "Ballbreaker" is a bit of a unique and slightly underrated, kick ass record (what a title track!), which also sports a way better jacket than Razors Edge or any of the others, post Flick! Finally, I left "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" out of the mix, due to this, I think, being only for studio efforts, as it probably should be. But I'd like to say that cranking up this magnificent, earth melting live album is a God-like experience. Angus is just "off the charts great," with a guitar tone that can set houses ablaze and sterilize young women at a thousand paces. I love it very much. ⚡ MARC

Very true about the late 70s and I’m glad Martin pointed that out. Styx, Kansas, BOC, Aerosmith, etc. kinda fell off the map with weaker albums while AC/DC and Van Halen charged on through.

Blow up your video is really underrated. First two tracks are killer, Kissing Dynamite is really decent, Nick if Time of criminally overlooked and I love the riff of Ruff Stuff. Plus This means war kicks ass. Also just listened to Stiff Upper Lip again, it's really really good. Give It Up is absolutely brilliant, Hold me back also.

It's funny. Rock or Bust is my favorite of the latter day AC/DC albums. I really love Emission Control, Hard Times, Got Some Rock & Roll Thunder. Fly On The Wall is weak in terms of songwriting, but I still love it. Fly, Shake, Send for The Man, Back in Business is fire. I put Blow Up Your Video last. It's got better songwriting, but the production is so bad I almost find it unlistenable. The live versions of Heatseeker and That's The Way are vastly superior. Too bad. I know Stiff Upper Lip is flat in terms of songwriting, but to me it sounds the best in terms of production. My dream would be to have them re-record BUYV with that production. It may have been close to For Those About To Rock level success if so (imho). Ballbreaker has some great stuff, but has lost some steam for me. Can't knock the title track, Caught With Your Pants Down, Burnin Alive, The Furor. Hard as a Rock is just a stupid song, though that riff is catchy as hell. As you can see from my other comment I am more of a Bon fan, but love all eras.
