Great video, answers some personal questions. You guys are great! My husband and I are 50. He’s a retired firefighter and I have 5 years to go. We are aggressively saving and started investing just this year. It may be too late for us, but we will make sure our kids/grandchild get on 🔥! Keep he videos coming!

I didnt retire super early (54), and I had worked well over 40 hours every week. It certainly did cross my mind d that I might get bored, but I actually found it fairly straightforward. I had a major plan (buy a boat) and several cheap minor ones (more walking, embroidery, dress making). It is nice not to actually have to rush about, we fetishize busyness and it really isn't necessary. Be intetesting to see their thoughts.

You guys!!! It’s like you were reading my mind in posting this video-so timely for me! I’ve been grappling with taking a BIG step towards FIRE, and all the fears I have you’ve addressed here. Thank you! One quote that has helped me make the decision has been this nugget: “Calm seas do not make strong sailors.” I was actually hoping to meet you both this past March on my trip to Portugal, but that was obviously cancelled. You have been my inspiration for the past year and I hope to treat you both to lunch one day to thank you (and pick your brains!). Keep up the inspiring work! I appreciate you! Remember me because I’ll be proclaiming FIRE one day! 🙏🏽 Jen, Huntington Beach, CA

You guys hit the nail on the head with this video; most of the things mentioned I’m thinking about constantly now. I’ve decided this coming year will be my last year at my job and I’m anxious all the time now mostly because I haven’t met my FI number, and I know I’m walking away from “security.” My decision isn’t a rash/impulsive one, otherwise I’d quit NOW. 😅 I am 100% consumer debt free with only a very manageable amount left on my mortgage. I’m able to save about 65% of my monthly income (budget, budget, budget). I feel like I’m working to have enough money for retirement but may end up spending all that money on medical bills or who knows what else will cost an arm and a leg by then. It’s very scary but walking away from my job also means walking towards a simpler, less stressful life. 🤞🏾Thanks for the video and showing this side of FIRE. ❤️

Wow! You sound like you are on the same path as us! There are fears, but you can overcome them. AND, like you said - live a less stressful life! CONGRATULATIONS on being so close to retirement!

You might find that once you get some head space after work, that you find something that interests you and that you get paid for. I love gardening and I'm taking a course in garden design. I'm not doing it to get work, but the occasional job would be no hardship!

You both touched on great points about the fears of retiring early. There is no such thing as boredom to me. There is always something I can learn and engage in. The freedom I feel far outweighs the security and benefits of my previous career. Live life on your terms✨

I am a loyal fan now! My husband and I are officially debt free as of June 2020 and we are past our halfway point. We plan to retire once we reach partial FI so can worldschool our little daughter. We plan to keep our professional licenses and probably do online consulting work or work fun stuff as we travel. When I share this to people I always get a “you guys are crazy look”! But now I am so happy I have someone I can look up to! You are both very relatable and such great examples for couples! If I didnt team up with my husband we would not reach where we are. I plan to start binging and watching all the youtube videos you have so I can keep up and know ur story! Hehehe I am excited! We just opened our youtube channel to share our journey too. I look up to both of you. We have a long way to go but thank you for the inspiration!

Probably your most important video, well done. The truth is that folks like us that achieve financial independence at a young age by way of our OWN efforts usually have mindsets that can deal with the fear factors. Yes, we have fears but we manage them rationally. The naysayers are the folks that generally allow fears to creep in and kill the dream. As to the idea of being bored well there again its a mindset. Folks that build and live out a dream such as FIRE aren't those whose life defaults to "boring". We get busy not for the sake of being busy but because we know that our time so valuable and diminishing. Why would anyone willingly give away their most precious resource, their time, for fear of being bored? Not these kids! Keep on crushing you guys!

Wow! Congratulations! I'm so glad you two post this video today because I am leaving my career this week! I'm not retiring early however because my husband and I paid off 95k of our consumer debt, I will become a stay at home mom until all 3 of them are in school. I have so much fear and uncertainty as a mom having only my husband provide, however I agree with you two on the budgeting method that will help with us get through this stay at home mom journey just as our mountain of debt free journey. In the meantime we bought your awesome course to study because it will be on our to-do bucket list too! Thanks for what you two do by setting an example and documenting/vlogging the steps in uncharted areas no one has done! Love you guys so much!

I liked the visualising idea of your last day at work! I am so glad you addressed the fears you had as this is a real barrier for a lot of people. However you did not talk about how you overcome your fears of having enough money in your new retirement to be able to take part in all the hobbies and activities that were now open to you with 40hrs worth of new time! We would love you to make a video of this and how you calculated this spend which you would otherwise not have by being in work all day.

Similar incomes, education levels, family size etc. I like that you guys didn't achieve what you have because you were mathematical savants, or inherited a ton of money, or came from powerful families with sweet connections. You did it through hard work, dedication, making good life choices and being a strong couple. Hope 10 years from now we can have a similar story to tell.

Ha! Great video. Funny how quickly 40 hours fills up, huh? It's so fun being able to be curious and try and learn new things. One of the things I love the most is that I rarely feel like I have to rush around anymore. I can slow down and be present and enjoy, even savor, what I'm doing. I had an unexpected 6 month farewell tour where I introduced and passed off all my business relationships to my colleagues. And I had the most successful and productive 6 months of my career. Like you all, I didn't hate my job, my company or my colleagues. The only awkward part was the bigwigs threw me a retirement party and I just felt funny because that's when all the ppl (read corporate higher ups) who didn't know me that well started asking me about what I was going to do and how was I going to fill the time, lol. I just kept answering yoga, lots of yoga. :)

There you go with your positive comments again! :) Amon's parents are both originally from San Francisco, but he lived in Nigeria for five years when he was a little kiddo! :)
