The Sheep King story is honestly my favorite piece of dougdoug lore ever. This in combination with the original "Shit" King is truly beautiful. The way that Davey started off with saying that he couldn't get himself to make a story up and begins with 100% true facts that doug even confirmed to be true and then hard pivots to Sheep-Kissing is masterful storytelling.

I may not have a whole lot of time consecutively to watch this, but I will comment anyway. Doug, thank you so much for your work, but more importantly, thank you to the monterey bay aquarium for theirs. I grew up in marina california, just down the road from monterey (kinda) and my dad and I went to the aquarium almost weekly (thanks to my grandparents giving me memberships every year for christmas) and that place has such a profound connection to me. I recently had to move away from california, but before I left I went to the aquarium one more time, and it was just as magical as it was when I was 7(and I got to see doug's mark on the donations board which was very cool). The only difference is I couldn't play around in the splash zone this time. There's really nothing quite like it. I've visited family in atlanta georgia and gone to that aquarium and it's cool and all, it's got the whale sharks, but it feels so lifeless. There's no focus on conservation because atlanta isn't by the sea, there's no smell of the ocean wafting in through the doors, and it just doesn't compare. You can go there to gawk at fish from all over the world, but you can go to the monterey bay aquarium to learn about the history of the region, the history of the region's sea life, and to learn about the ocean. The old canning equipment they have near the entrance (the thing I always wanted to climb as a child) is so fantastic, reading about cannery row and what it was like is phenomenal, being able to go outside and see otters in the water, unaffiliated with the aquarium, just enjoying their natural habitat, is a magical experience. Going to the seafood watch cafe and hearing the actors talk about sustainable seafood on the silliest TV screen setup is unmatched. I went and saw Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure there when it released in 2007, then I bought a copy from the gift shop and made my dad watch it over and over. I found a comic collection called "sherman's lagoon" and ended up hooked on the series as a kid, all thanks to the aquarium (in this case, the gift shop). There is so much more I want to say about the aquarium, but words fail me, as the intricacy of my feelings towards that place are unable to be transcribed. When I went, thinking it'd be my last time for potentially years, I stayed basically all day. I arrived in the morning, walked down to old fisherman's wharf for lunch, then walked back and stayed until closing time, trying not to be overwhelmed by emotion. I didn't see rosa at the time, who had yet to pass away, but I'm sure I've seen her more than enough times in my life, she's older than I am after all and joined the aquarium before I was born, there's no way I missed her with how frequently I went. I even remember when they had the great white shark in the open seas tank and had to basically empty it. I believe the shark had been injured and was undergoing rehabilitation, but i remember seeing him swim so close to me. I have no clue what year this was. I was old enough to remember it, and I was born in 2003, so someone smarter can do the math. I just remember seeing him. I am a firm believer that everyone with an interest in sea life, who is able, should see the monterey bay aquarium at some point in their life (and every original series star trek fan, you can see where spock swam with a whale. It's actually a big outdoor area with no tank, and it's WAAAAAY to small for a whale, but it's funny to see). I miss the aquarium daily now that I no longer live near it, although I haven't gone frequently in years due to cost and also not living super close anymore, but it's like that building and all it represents is a part of my soul. I went off on a rambling tangent of memories there, but all I really want to say is thank you to Doug for the kind work in fundraising for this incredible organization, thank you to the monterey bay aquarium for giving me my best childhood memories and so much knowledge and passion (although why you changed the restaurant area to a 'grab a tray and pick out food' style cantina I will never know, I used to love the calamari at the old restaurant), and finally a thank you to Rosa, for her massive work in recovering the population of such an important species in the sea otter.
