You guys really have an underrated channel. It seems like the KZbin hiking community is mostly based around through hiking instead of day hiking and mountaineering. Hopefully this move will help you guys grow the channel and fill what I think is a much-needed niche in the community.

Exciting 🎯 Btw... after grad school my lady and me explored most all of Europe in a Volkswagen camper. That saved at least 2k a month plus we could stay at remote places. And when weather got colder - we went South. The same works in USA. And with your budget you can get a real fancy 4x4 camper van and rent one in other far away locations. Just an idea 😁
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
That is so freaking awesome you did that, and we are most definitely thinking along those same lines! We're going to get a Starlink for the Subaru when we leave this summer and see how that goes with dispersed camping -- should be a good test case for camper living. ❤️

@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Thanks Mark, and so glad you're enjoying the adventures! Yes Everest and its ilk might end up being too dangerous for us too, but our plan is just to slowly keep increasing altitude and difficulty each year until we hit what we feel is our limit. It might come well before we ever get to the big Himalayas, but if it doesn't then that is sort of the ultimate goal. But even if we can't handle that kind of altitude and end up specializing in Cali and Colorado 14ers, that's still a pretty ideal life! ❤️

Congrats on the hybrid plan! Exciting to hear you've got the stability of a job and the adventure of a new guiding business, at whatever pace you choose. I have taken the path of slow travel, so staying at monthly AirBnbs and then organizing my life alternating between 3 months international (in a particular region) and 3 months domestic. I've also been avoiding car rentals because of hassle and cost, which kindof works but does limit my choices for hiking. I'm still trying things out but have been enjoying it. My variation on life keeps my actual plane travel down but does require a commitment to living in different places, which I am enjoying. I have a month planned in Switzerland this summer. I'm staying next to the train line and doing trips from there. Wish me luck!
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Wow that is super inspiring about the slow travel! We're thinking much the same thing in terms of Airbnbs the first year in various great high-altitude locations. You're gonna love Switzerland -- please let us know how it goes!! ❤️

@@LiveHardxLoveHard Wow! You are two amazing people , and you channel gives us much pleasure. Beautiful views, and you are so brave and so beautiful. We went to Interlaken ( my son was invited to some world reknowned violin professor), and after all masterclasses we went to Harder Kilm, my boy was with his violin. Then we decided to walk up, we had no idea that this is the start of Hardergrat... we had no proper shoes, no walking sticks, nothing, Misha loaded with his violin. We went thinking there would be some place of interest, maybe a playground... walkd up and up, then turned higher to Wannichnubel... without any idea what it was... My son walked far in front, it was too dangerous for me to call him from far behind... Anyway, we ended up on the summit, he played his violin for some hikers in the most beautiful views above clouds, doing down was the scariest thing ever, one wrong move.. and that's it ( as you said in your video) ... I got my kid into this... well, we never regretted this experience and fell out n love with mountains. Your channel gives us a virtual new opportunity to be in such places. Just BRAVO.

I will say you’re right about expenses in different countries….I’m not anywhere near you guys in terms of hiking/climbing skill, but I’ve done my share in the US. Anyway, for example, ‘Switzerland’, oh my gosh! Just double the cost of anything and everything to be there!

I spend a couple weeks in remote corners of the alps most summers (AT and CH mainly) and I've never rented a car - public transportation can get you almost anywhere. I have always been able to find a bus up to a little village below the start of my route. They have good phone apps for route planning, timetables, and purchasing tickets. Saves a TON of money over renting and feeding a car.
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
That's a good point about public transport being much less expensive, Marty, and good for people to know. The problem for us is that with filming, we really like to be the first ones out on a climb (so our shots aren't constantly getting accidentally photobombed by other hikers), so we need to drive to the trailheads an hour or two before the first bus arrives. ❤️

Hello Adam and Elise!! This is an over the top awesome video! I came here for the normal awesome adventure, awesome videography, and overall great human characteristics. Well, I also still do fantasize that you two will be sponsored by Pop Tart and be offering deep discounts; I guess I will just hold on to that fantasy. But...there are some awesome life lessons embedded here. Life can be over before I finish this note. You two are on an incredible trajectory to have put a spot on the calendar/map to say where you want to be in x amount of time......put in the analysis of making a map to get there.....and are executing the crap out of it!! Many congrats to you both!! Will you be renting in the Sierra? Or, car lifing it?
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much, Alan! Our plan is to start out mobile, living in various places in the Sierra like Bishop, Mammoth, Lone Pine, etc., until we get a feel for where we want our home base to be. Then we'll probably rent for a year, and if after that we still feel like it's right (and prices aren't too insane) we'll think about buying. ❤️

Best of luck to you two, your plan sound solid ! Nice to hear Matterhorn is in your card for 2024, I also hope to be there this year (one caveat though for me: need to go without a guide). As for expenses, with some effort it should be easy to reduce their average.
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Thanks Radu! Yes we're planning to go with no guide as well, which will be hard with filming because it means you have to climb behind everyone else since the guided groups all get to start first. But will still be awesome. Ya we're gradually figuring out ways to reduce expenses even in the really expensive countries -- making our own food at airbnbs definitely helps! ❤️

Congratulations to you guys!! Such great news that you guys have the pathway to truly pursue your dreams and desired adventures…can’t wait to see them unfold :) Also, random idea before you’re fully out of LA area… have you guys ever considered tackling Triplet Rocks? It’s often referred to as the toughest, most inaccessible peak in the San Gabriels. Not a whole lot of beta but there for sure is some. People have said it’s more difficult than C2C2C and requires either starting or finishing in the dark. Many ups and down, climbing and scrambling. The 3 rock columns in itself seem like a snack spot for Adam! The adventure seems right up your guys’ alley. Just a thought :) excited to see everything you guys do!
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Thanks very much, and that is a great question. The answer is yes! Triplet is definitely on our list, and we feel like we gotta to do it. It's not as classic a Socal rite of passage as C2C2C or the Iron-Baldy traverse, but it's still a massive challenge and as you say, right up our alley. We will probably try to do it this spring before leaving LA, though even if not we'll be back in the area a lot and will for sure do it at some point. But hopefully this spring! ❤️

You still have some cheap options in Europe. Try Eastern Europe. You have the Carpathians, the Tatra, the Rhodopes in Bulgaria and Greece with with ancient cities and ruins all around. Less than half price and more exotic and exciting.

Hi, guys! We’re coming to SoCal for a wedding in April... hope you might be around! Adam! Don’t forget; I was the first to suggest peak trips to you guys! The Black Kaweah! Some others: Mt Gardiner, Clarence-King, Darwin, Humphreys, Williamson, and the remote, mysterious and awesome Mt Charybdis, 13,102 ft. and Scylla in the Ionian Basin and Gorge Of Despair area! Very isolated! Getting there is going to require a backpack. I’ve been told that going over Black Giant Pass on the Black Divide might be a good way. Also, from Muir Pass thru the Mt Goddard region would be another.
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Haha I definitely won't forget, Michael! We put the Black Kaweah way up on the list, and a bunch of those others are on there too. Will look into Mr Charybdis today! Is there a Scylla as well? That's great about working remote and getting away from the big city rent prices. To budget further I would park an RV or Sprinter-type van in an RV park, stay in it mostly in winter. During warmer months travel to mt. climbs out of U.S., also use van/car domestically in N. America, save on lodging, but gas will still be an expense....take care and travel on !!
@LiveHardxLoveHard9 ай бұрын
Thank you, and yes that is still an idea we are considering. The reason we're starting out with doing more car-camping and airbnbs is that good quality camper vans are super expensive right now, and once we ran the numbers including gas and the fact that we can often camp or stay with people for free when traveling, we couldn't justify it. But as we experiment and learn more about adventure living, and also of course save more up money by working but not paying LA prices, we might well end up getting an adventure camper! ❤️
