After all, conservative and liberal ideas - even if competing - are equally American, inherently. We need to get back to that understanding. Even as an conservative, I see America as an progressive experiment in which it's citizens free themselves over time. I like Trump, but he's just a guy. Beyond this person, there's a lot to agree upon. We have to get back to a place where we love being Americans again, even if we have our disagreements from time to time on how best to manage our country and help our fellow citizens that we share an planet with. I agree with Bill that diversity strengths us but within reason. There are certain people we should be allowed to hate if they are toxic (engaged in unprovoked murder, kidnappings, sexual abuse, other forms of abuse, and genocide) and if they threaten the state our democracy and the basic American values we all share. I don't hate every Trump supporter unless they attack me for my beliefs and want me to accept their beliefs. I always say respect is earned but you never have to accept someone's beliefs because agreeing with everyone is people-pleasing. People who earn respect deserve kindness, love, and equal rights. People who take advantage of others without showing any form of remorse and continue to do things despite asking people to stop deserve to be treated like garbage because "you get what's coming at you" and "if the shoe fits, wear it" and "we must call a spade a spade".

I don't see Mr. Maher saying one side is not more egregious. He spoke to that when he spoke about what's going on in congress, and in the general way he speaks about Trump's person. But he is onto something about seeing more, and unless we begin to understand what's fueling the other side, things are not going to improve. Biased media has to go. If those on the left get away with only one side of the story, even if the sins of omission are not as great or dire (sometimes they are), it just gives fuel to the fire on the other side. We've got to zoom out. And I agree with Maher on the radical woke-ism. There's a lot of Yes and Yes here. Yes transgender folks deserve their rights, and Yes, female athletes shouldn't have to compete against biological males. It's not about excluding anyone, but about what's fair to everyone.
