Thank you guys for sharing my son’s story! Breaks my heart not all parents are accepting. There should never be conditions on love! So glad you guys are back for season 4! I’m recovering from back surgery and listening to the podcast is a great distraction!🫶

Regarding coming out to kids. I agree with your comments. I came out when my kids were in their early 20’s , i gave them time to digest and talk it through, I empathized I was the same person who happens to be gay. They were sad about the breakdown of their parents marriage, but they have all said they can see how happy and at peace I am now. It’s ok to be you we are not just parents, give them time and just be you.

Great episode, because I think the more people share their coming out stories, the more confidence it can build in others to face their own. It can take some of the fear away, so I really appreciate you focusing on this topic for your season 4 premiere. Welcome back, and here’s to many more episodes in the future! ❤

I never actually "Came Out". My mother once asked me, "Bobby, why are all your friends fairies"? My father said to her, "Shut up, Eva. Leave the kid alone"! After that, nothing more was ever said!

Great to have you guys back for another season! I really enjoyed this episode, and I have to agree with you Joel, moms know! 😉 I also agree that a lot of times a bad reaction from parents or family is because they had some set expectations for what their kid’s life would be and they struggle to reset their expectations. I decided early on to never use gendered language with my boys in regards to any potential partner of theirs. Instead, I’ll say something like “your future sweetheart” or “Is there anyone you like?” That way I’m keeping my mind open to all possibilities and not telegraphing specific expectations to them.

Great podcast!! It truly goes to show that we all have different paths to coming out and how for most of us we are embraced and lived. Also, at the same time there is still a minority that uses outdated ideology and religion to put us back in the closet. Great episode guys! Love the socks.

My little coming out story. Anyone remember the newspaper ads. I answer this guy's ad. And spent a lovely afternoon with a very gentle experienced and tender guy. All the abuse, bullying, and name calling fell away that afternoon. I was raised as a strict Roman Catholic my parents rejected me I never cared about if it after the afternoon I knew that I was gay, and came out to everyone I knew. Wherever you are Phil I'd like to thank you. Maybe your reading this... ❤As always much love to everyone❤Be proud to gay❤ Accept and love yourself❤

For the gentleman who sought resources for his children, PFLAG is a good organization. I don’t know how they’re represented in the UK, but they have meetings in the US, and they have their website.

Hi guys just found your site and would like to share my experience. I am a 75 year old northerner from a family of 3 younger sisters and myself my mother and stepfather at the time when it came for my youngest sister to get married me living working in London with a boyfriend. I decided to take my boyfriend to my sisters wedding ( odd looks in the church) from the groom side, awkward looks on our side. Move on to the reception step father says to me well there is only you (ie me) left. Having lived through the time when it was illegal I just thought I don’t care I don’t live near you I have no feelings for you. So I said that’s not going to happen his response why not and I pointed to my boyfriend and said he’s why not he looked at me then at my boyfriend and then my mum and said I want you to both leave which we did. I never saw or spoke to him again and it didn’t bother me at all and the final thing about this story is that I lived for a number of years abroad and when I returned to the uk I discovered that he had died 4 years earlier

I always figured if a parent reacts poorly, you, the gay person, should turn it on them. When they start getting upset, be an ass, stop them, and ask, why are you getting upset? I should be pissed; I mean, you are the one who made me gay.
