The best way to deal with a dealer. Find someone with a small showroom and a ramp! Ring them on the phone and make a serious offer for the car! Once you find someone that accepts a reasonable offer arrive at their place of business within 5 hours of making the offer and ask for the car to be held off sale till then. Take a mechanic with you. Already arranged and with you when you are ringing round. Arrive and get the car up on the ramp! Have a look. If it is not rotten check the rest of the car over. Drive it! If it all checks out buy it or if you really need a specialist get one! Or just buy it. This system has never failed for me.

I blame PPI. People were told it wasn’t their fault and that they were owed money - something for nothing! We all knew we had PPI, we knew we paid a premium monthly but, there was nothing written down to show this. Since then, customers have changed and feel that they are owed everything. Same as finance. People have signed a contract. They have signed to pay a certain amount a month yet it’s everyone else’s fault if they don’t want to pay anymore!

nice video. Having worked in reatail i can sympathise, some of the stuff people think they are entilted to is amazing, despite to old phrase "the customer is always right" the customer can be wrong

I hate dentist prices Mike. Especially when you go on the NHS and they still charge a load.

Sheer bad experience tells me that any car for sale can have a hidden past that even car vertical won't tell you about, so no wonder that car dealers get a bad press. No one has a crystal ball that can predict if/when a car will develop an expensive issue. Only then will you find out how good or bad the dealer is, and i don't care what Mike Brewer says, a lot of dealers will not want to know.

To be fair the dentist is a rip off, but when I'm in agony you can name a price and I'll pay it. With a car you can name a price and I can say yay or nay.

I worked in the trade, sadly the motortrade disappointed me. All the traders I worked for weren't honest.

Car dealers have a poor reputation due to the motor trade being so intertwined with money laundering. Money laundering has been in the industry for decades - go to auctions and you’ll see it follow it back to garages…

What you say is very true but then you get events like the car finance commission scandal which reinforces people’s negative opinion and does significant damage to the reputation of ALL car sales outfits even though it’s virtually only main dealers who made the commission.

Do not finance it. Buy it if you have the money to buy it. If not forget it till you have the money. Who cares if a huge percentage of car sales are done on finance. Mike brought his car on wheeler dealers with hard cash. Do likewise.
