Remastering, is a good way of keeping your staff sharp, up to speed with new tech, whilst being able to quickly rifle through the work since the game is basically fixed in time. Also, many assets and textures can be created that can go into a pool of new gen assets to be re-used at a later date. All classic games would benefit from remastering of this kind.

I think the point IGN made was very well made. This is a visual overhaul. A visual overhaul of a very stylized game. Yes, it makes major improvements, but it does not change or add anything new to the game, and the game itself didn't have anything that broke it to cause a "NEED" for a remaster (at least for PC that is, technically it is brought up to current gen, but it waited until the end of the generation to do this, rather than the beginning of the next). Its a welcome upgrade, but with a very unwelcoming price tag if you've already gotten most of the fun out of the game previously, or still own the old one. Also, don't forget that the IGN guy mentions he had recently played a buggy switch port of the old version, so he had already gotten all of the fun out of the game, then pushed past that, and then played the same thing 'but shinier'.

Comparing a remastered game to remade games is just not fair. But in the end the 7/10 (or 70% if you're so inclined) is a fair rating. However keep in mind that the original release of Saints Row The Third achieved a 8/10, meaning the game lost somehow 1 point for including all DLCs now and being visually improved. At least... well... stick with the old rating when the game didn't get worse? Idk, just my two cents.

The interesting thing is that, if there was no side-by-side comparison of the old game. Our mind will use whatever games we've played recently to it as a comparison instead. This give us the illusion that the remastered was barely an upgrade. It'll look as if the remastered was what we thought we had played back in 2011. It's a similarity of what people thought when they saw Call of Duty Modern Warfare II remastered, too. These remastered are caught up to the generation fidelity of I'd say around 2016-2017. Not quite in the ball-park of the more stand-out games of 2018-2020. Google up Best games of 2016 or 2017 and compare the visual of those years and it's in-line with what Saint Row the 3rd Remastered would fit in. Then Google up Best games of 2018-2020 and see how it can't even compete.

My dream: enhanced patches for 4/GOOH bringing them up to this standard, a remaster on this level of 2 (and 1 but that’s less important, it’s fine 2 is far superior), and when next gen arrives, an upscale update to lock them all at 4k (maybe add ray tracing depending on computational cost). I’ve only played Saints Row 2 and 4, but I noticed with this one, it’s really frickin quiet when it shouldn’t be. Getting in shootouts and doing cool stuff is uncomfortably lacking in background music. The gameplay is pretty fun and looks beautiful, I just wish they had tracks for gunfights and activities so it wouldn’t feel so awkward.

I also think this pays back for the developer. Some games can get a lot of long term sales and I know Saints Row the Third is one of those games that people will bring up in online conversation in the same way as Mafia II. So now when new people get recommended the games it's an easier sell and people who might have been on the line might feel like this is the time. Now they're obviously not getting rich of it so you might still wonder why they would waste resources on it and I think it's a combination of R&D and training. Normally R&D and training goes on behind the scene and makes no money, but it's a necessary part of the job so if you can make back some of the money on it then that's amazing.

It's true that it didn't run well @ launch, but you should look into it on switch again... They added an option for dynamic resolution. If you activate it it never drops below 30fps and the resolution fluctuates between 540 and 720 portable and 720 and 1080p docked. So in any case it looks better and plays smoother than the ps3 version.

my guess why the Remaster is so extensive, is because the people at Volition just care so much. even to their own detriment. you could tell in Saint's Row 3 the first time that they just cared so much. and the vast majority of their other Products over the years. caring perhaps more than even the Players do. again even to their own detriment. but i appreciate it nonetheless. i love their goofy Characters making fun of everyones' stereotypes and really just taking the piss at everyone. i'm going to have to play Saint's Row 3 all over again, aren't i. not even mad since it's been such a long time and the game is just so heartwarming. though a few of the Characters don't look quite as cartoony as they did before which isn't good or bad, but does make them look a bit different. still very obvious who they are but just a little bit not quite the same, yno?

It’s broken, customization menu glitchy and just doesn’t work, draw distance hasn’t improved, hijacking vehicles is glitchy, trophies don’t pop up when they should, game crashes and freezes. Glad I only paid 15 cuz if I paid the full 40 I’d be pissssssed. Oh and the graphics only look better in cut scenes.

Best Remaster since Halo 2 Anniversary. Almost looks like an entirely different game but plays the same as we remember. I'm probably gonna grab this on Xbox, I never got to play the DLC for SR3 originally but I can't wait to play it with a modern visual presentation.

The bridge comparison section seems a little too unfair for de PS4 Pro to me, (maybe im wrong here) but appears to render an atmospheric effect that is not present in the XBOX ONE X version due to the daytime.

Does the manapult have its cannon back yet? It was invisible day one. Just completely invisible. And within the first two missions I was hitting annoying glitches and game-stopping bugs. Not being able to enter vehicles, quests not progressing, things like that. I was really disappointed with this.
