We have seen about the kitchen customs in Italy on HGTV. We enjoyed hearing your wonderful news! Such a central location to so many places too. What is the climate there in the winter months? We'd like to do something different this upcoming winter and don't need beach weather but would prefer not bitter cold either. We have Wisconsin for that! Temperate would be just fine for us. Good to see you back and with even better news! I have been following you for a while now since we are on a similar quest and I just knew Italy was it for you. We decided to sell everything in our homeland Holland 3 years ago and travel Europe in the hope of eventually finding our bit of paradise. Then Covid hit and we got " stuck" in Spain. We always expected to end up in Italy since it has been our number uno travel destination for many, many years. However, during our time in Spain we travelled the length and width of it and kinda fell in love with Galicia. Italy can still be a holiday destination. Today of all days we expect a reply on the offer we made on a house there! The thing we learned in the 3 years (partially because of lockdown) traveling is that for us it is more comfortable traveling with the security of a homebase to fall back on. Living out of suitcases for 3 years is overrated! Congrats you guys and I look forward to seeing more of your house and grounds.

Yes, we agree, having a home base just makes so much more sense to us, packing and re packing was becoming quite the challenge! Travelling will be so much easier now💞🇮🇹

@@ouritaliandestiny7955 And talking about traveling, did you know that cats are great travellers? I grew up with 2 siamese cats and my parent trained them and took them everywhere on a little leash. They even stayed with us in hotel rooms. Maybe something to consider doing with your kitty since traveling is part of your future. All the best to you both!

We got so upset that we called an agent in Italy and she found us an apartment in Umbria in a little hilltop town and we are moving there next week. This will be our basecamp for the near future while we travel Italy. I guess Spain was just not meant too be but Italy was always in the cards!

The kitchen is part of the furniture and appliances.. I can't understand why people are so surprised by this. You either purchase a home with the furniture included or not. :) New furniture and appliances are expensive, and it's understandable that you'd want to reduce costs when moving. :) (And no, I'm not Italian, not by a long shot. :)) Btw. You have an amazing house; you're truly fortunate.

Is there anywhere else in Europe where people take their kitchen with them? I wonder how this became a thing. Seems like a PITA for both buyer and seller. But you did get that perfect arched window stove, so there's that! I am excited for "olive content", lol. When should we plan to be there for freshly pressed oil? ;-)

Curious to know how they price houses in Italy…How do you if it’s a fair price?In America you can easily go online and search the comps in the neighborhood etc..

It's certainly more challenging to assess the value/price of less common homes, but can still be done through the comparison to similar properties. One thing to keep in mind is that in the current market conditions (at least in more rural settings) most homes can be listed for 4-5 years before they sell so you can be aggressive with your offer.

Hello! We love Umbria and its weather, although today we woke to snow, which we haven't had since November 2021!! We only stayed in one place in Umbria when we arrived in August 2021. It was with a lady who rented out one of her apartments in a cute little town called Gioiella, not far from Castiglione del Lago. Yep, they take it all, even the kitchen sink! The house had been empty for almost 3 years, that's when they took the kitchen. So, no we never saw the kitchen when we looked at the house. It's very common in Italy that when the sellers move they take the kitchen..... and light fixtures! This is common even if you rent!

Thank you, Mia! Finding a reasonable priced house is relatively easy, it's finding one that doesn't need a lot of work that's harder. We were very lucky in that we found both! As an example where we are in Umbria we are it 2 hours from Rome, 2 hours from Florence and 2 hours from either coast line! Oh, and about 10 miles from the Tuscan border! Umbria is the green heart of Italy and is the only land locked region.

There are many options, depends on your passport situation, financial means etc. Very difficult to make blanket statements but it's relatively doable for most people.

If you have sufficient recurring income stream it's relatively easy to obtain a non-working retirement visa for italy. I'd enquire with your local consulate or embassy about the process and requirements.
