If my son came to me and said he wanted to be a girl, I'd ask him why he thought that way. I don't plan on telling my children this unless they're facing a similar situation, but I questioned my gender when I was younger because a grown man exposed himself to me, and I didn't want to be seen as weak, so I tried to come off as masculine and not seen as a victim, thus my "I'm a girl, but I'm also one of the guys. Don't mess with me!" phase. I never changed my pronouns, nor did I want to. I just didn't want to be the scared little girl I once was. It was only until recently that I opened up to my mom about that, and together we had an "Aha!" moment of what made me behave the way I did. That doesn't happen for everyone; some people truly are transgender, but I'd ask my son to tell me why he feels like he's trans because I'd want to be sure either, "OK, this was caused by trauma, which we can get help for somehow," or "OK, my son genuinely is trans."

I'm sorry you went through that experience, and I'm glad you were able to eventually open up to your mom about it. I thought I should be trans at one point because I knew I was attracted to women, and I was raised to believe being a lesbian was a sin. So I thought if I was a boy, I would be accepted for dating women. But I realized I like the parts I have, and who cares if people think I'm sinning, they'd think that if I was trans & hetero too. So long as you accepted your child if they were truly trans, I think that's what's important. For many of us queer folk, our parents are our first bullies, for some they are our first allies, and it's so important to feel like your parent/parents accept you as you are 🩷 much love to you & yours

My son told he me was a girl too. He was probably 4. I also asked him why. Turned out, it was because I told him he couldn't have the girls toys. And he wanted all the toys. I told him that he needed to learn how to share. And I showed him how to share. He decided that since he was still not getting the girls toys and that being selfish meant practicing sharing, he left it alone. Having said that, my son is all boy and he always was.

Most people aren’t truly trans. prior to people being influenced by sm, doctors, etc. there was a 98% reversal rate. Psychologist found there was always a root cause instead of just oh hey I feel this way.

I kind of agree with you and don't at the same time. It is a mental condition. The treatment for it just different from other mental conditions. The therapy may not work, anti-depressants aren't effective, and it's not a psychosis mental condition. Thus, sometimes I think that to manage the often unbearable dysphoria that comes with this condition, changing something physically or hormone wise is the only thing that works for some people.

Being trans isnt some kind of disease, and its not a mental disorder either, in the dsm5 gender dysphoria is listed. Transness as of it self is not. Dysphoria can sometimes be treated with social transition and a haircut, but in some cases, more treatment such as hrt is needed to make these people feel comfortable in their bodies, transitioning is a choice, being trans is not. but im many cases, like my own, medical transition is needed to allow me to be content with my body and with my life as a whole.
