This is awesome, Abbey! I feel like The Ordinary can be overly cautious in their recommendations when it comes to listing potential contraindications between their products (e.g., niacinamide and vitamin C), and I had a hard time finding good straightforward information regarding safe/effective use of copper peptides. This is the first video I've seen that actually took a deep dive. Thank you for taking the time to do this!

I have used my Multi-peptides + Cu with tretanoin .05% and started with .025 before, with zero issues. I know that copper peptides MAY increase flushing in the skin, thereby increasing efficacy and side effects of Tretinoin. I'm older and my skin rarely flush/blushes. I appreciate how you’re framing this. As with many things, generally people can get pretty intolerant when companies change their stance on something. It’s so important that when the body of knowledge grows, we are able to pivot and accept new conclusions that may not align with previous ones. Sooo many people point fingers and I just love that you’re not bashing them here. Knowledge, science, medicine, these are all constantly evolving topics. I did take out peptides immediately when I saw your post, and I’m not totally sure where they will fit in moving forward and I now have a vitamin C im really enjoying (anyone else like the Mad Hippie?). I was having problems with something oxidizing in my skincare routine & giving me an orange tint around my hairline, so I did some research. I came across the topic of mixing copper peptides with vitamin C, & that was definitely one of the issues. Another problem was too high of a concentration of niacinamide as well. Once I stopped using the Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum in the morning with my vitamin C, as well as dropped my niacinamide percentage from 10% to 4%, & I don't have the oxidation problem anymore.

I have been using copper peptides since you started using it on your channel…in all of my research online, contacting The Ordinary directly and speaking to my dermatologist all of them advised against using Ascorbic Acid in the same routine but encouraged the use of Vitamin C derivatives with copper peptides…I am now using a derivative GOODAL - Green Tangerine Vita-C Dark Spot Care Serum in the same routine with great results. For background I was using the Timeless Vitamin C and introduced the copper peptides and was having some strange reactions on my skin (odd color and smell on my face) within a week which prompted my research. Thank you for clearing things up on your routine and info about using hypoclorous acid. I introduced that product into my routine awhile ago without doing any research! I will have to make some changes now and will try using it midday as you suggested. So much to learn here thank you!

Just my $0.02 re: using copper peptides and retinoids together: I have been using the Medik8 Liquid Peptides serum (which contains copper palmitoyl heptapeptide-14), and I contacted Medik8 directly about using this product alongside tretinoin at night. They said that it was perfectly fine to layer this product under/over tretinoin or any other vitamin A product (such as their crystal retinal line) as long as the skin tolerated it, and that there shouldn’t be any sort of clash between the ingredients. Thanks for the clarification! I use Niod's CAIS and that product is so pricey there is no way I'm risking having at it denatured or rendered ineffective even if some formulators argue it's technically possible. I think that ultimately this comes down to us being reluctant to have a simple routine. It's ok to just use copper peptides as a single serum in a routine and alternate other ingredients on other days/nights. ❤
@ynnaz06131986

I used to use NIOD’s copper peptide product too (I went thru 3 bottles). Eventually I finally decided to try the Ordinary’s version instead-I wanted to see if I noticed any difference since Niod’s is so much pricier. After going thru 2 bottles, I have to say that while copper peptides definitely have a positive effect on my skin overall, I can’t see any difference since I changed to the less expensive product. Just something to consider! (For reference, I’m in my late 30s , and have a fairly in depth skincare routine, maybe a bit less involved compared to Abbey’s-hope you find this helpful!)
@kellyc3897
@kellyc3897 Жыл бұрын
@ynnaz06131986 Hey, I've tried the Ordinary's version too, and quite like it 🙂 I guess Niod edges out in my preferences because I have very oily skin and the thinner formulation of CAIS sinks into my skin a lot better. But I agree that the Ordinary's is a great option for those that want a more affordable yet still effective formulation.

FYI for anyone considering a lash lift and tint, you don't need to use lash GROWTH serum if you do a lash lift and tint. in fact, it's recommend you don't use it for 10 days prior and 10 days after depending on the product used. I've been an esthetician for 4 years, and I've used multiple lash lift brands (just incase anyone is curious on my background). What I usually recommend my clients to use are lash serums that target nourishment. I love the WB&Co one, I also love plain ol argan or jojoba oil because they're light. Some of my clients swear by coconut or castor, which is not my cup of tea but their lashes are still strong and healthy after multiple lifts and thats all Im looking for. Some lash lift brands have their own nourishing products as well, and those work jamazingly-but usually come at a higher price tag.

LOVE THIS VIDEO! I will say though about the SKII essence; Galactomyces is actually just the genus of the fungi, and there are dozens (if not hundreds) of different species like the Pitera that SKII has trademarked. The other products you mentioned have a type of galactomyces ingredient but they aren't actually required to disclose which species they're using, and the different species do have different effects on skin. I have found SKII sadly works a lot better than any of the others I have tried, but for some people the COSRX one works better so its really all about your skin type. But they really are two different ingredients. Aliceintherabbithole has a great science-based video on the SKII essence.

I use it daily and wow the difference in my nails being so much stronger! Also for healthy nails try using dazzle dry nail polish system. I’ve been using it for years. Your nails will thank you!

I am in complete alignment with how you roll. I am following Steven, but 🙏 you for the long list of links in the description box. 💫 I personally buy Stratia’s Interface formula because it formulates Copper Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-14 with Glycolic & Lactic acid, while throwing in some Rose Hip Oil. It also pairs nicely with their Liquid Gold product and is made in the U.S. I do wonder if all of the ingredients are made in the U.S. 🤔 I’m never out of questions. Btw, 💕 the Halloween 🎃 decor.

Anecdotal, but I've been using Latisse for over 2 years, and I've had no issue with side effects. From my understanding, the side effects people are scared about happened when the drops were being put directly into the eye for glaucoma. Latisse for lash growth is put on the lash line and can not be compared to the drops being put directly in the eye. I believe Dr. Dray has a video on Bimatoprost in depth.

This is really interesting to me. I’ve used revitalash for 3 years and never had any side effects at all. I’m SUPER careful and apply the tiniest amount (like I wipe the brush off completely) so that it doesn’t get on my skin much or in my eye at all. I get my eyes checked annually and I’m always told my eyes are healthy. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you Abbey! I’ll be interested to hear your review on SK-ll PITERA. I purchased a bottle to try, fully expecting to de-bunk the hype and be completely unimpressed. To my complete surprise, I fell in love with it. The moisture retention and glow are beyond amazing. I’ve heard other brands with galactomyces (Cosrx, numbuzin etc) just cannot deliver the same results as SK-II. I’ll be waiting for your video review!!

This is a great video! Thank you! I have sensitive skin and have been using anti-aging skin care for 5 years. My skin was fine with ascorbic acid until I started using tret. Then it caused too much irritation, but tret did miracles for my skin. Now I use the vanicream vitamin c with THD and that is a non irritating and a non acidic form. I love it. That said I've been using the ordinary buffet with copper peptides for a couple of years but my skin finds them irritating. So I successfully alternate nights with tret and copper peptides And the vanicream in the morning. My skin has never looked better.

I think the best approach is to rotate. Keep in mind you can still get the full benefits from using most products a couple times of week. The only two that I feel make sense for every morning are vitamin c or other antioxidants and sunscreen because you need protection every day which those provide. Everything else you can rotate. If anyone is curious I can break down my routine on how I rotate. You can also use products that don’t play nice together if you wait 30 minutes between application. For example on my days off (that’s when I have time) I will apply SA, wait 30 minutes then put on my vitamin C.

Knew I had heard it from 1 of the dermatologists here on youtube or Penn Smith, Master Esthetician, so went and looked. Derm Review has a study showing that l-ascorbic acid, once applied, absorbs right into your skin and remains in the skin for 72 hours. I've been alternating mornings: one day L-ascorbic acid routine, next morning copper peptide routine. If l-ascorbic acid is in the skin working for 72 hours after application: alternating seems a good option for me :)

My experience with using a lash serum (I think I used the same one as Abbey): first off, it discoloured my eye lid. I had a brownish line, kind if of like a subtle eyliner where I was applying it. Not a biggy but still weird. Then, when I ran out of the product and didn't purchase a replacement, all my newly super long and georgeous lashes fell out. It wasn't like I lost all my lashes at once, but it was rapid and concerning and not at all fun. So yeah, never again. It's not worth it. Edit to say the same thing happened to my sister

Thank you for this great information. I’m impressed by your commitment to your community and the science behind skin care. And your skin is gorgeous. Because I have highly reactive skin, I alternate certain products to reduce the chance of irritation. For example, I alternate nights for my retinoid and copper peptide. I never use copper peptide in the morning even though the C serum I use is a derivative not l-ascorbic acid and might not be problematic. And I exfoliate on a night when I don’t use any actives. I want to note that my decision to alternate a retinoid with a copper peptide was actually serendipitous. I can’t use a retinoid every night because my skin can’t handle it. So, I choose to use to use a copper peptide on the nights when I use Bakuchiol because my skin doesn’t react to Bakuchiol the way it does to retinoids.

Thank you so much for this!! You've answered so many questions regarding my routine that I have been finding difficult to find. I use copper peptides, galactomyces as well as tretinoin and was really looking to find where the galactomyces should fit it. For AM I personally am choosing to use the galactomyces, then copper peptides, snail mucin, the eight saints up the anti moisturizer, and sunscreen. I've chosen to discontinue my vitamin C in replacement of the peptides. Then, I just use tretinoin at night. It seems to be working well.

I've had *very* thin and weak nails my entire life and I recently decided to start a nail routine! I purchased a metal cuticle pusher, Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener, and some Biotin supplements and the results are absolutely blowing my mind with how long and healthy my nails are from these products! The routine itself is so simple, one to two times a week I will use the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover to push back my cuticles, I never cut anything off, and then I'll apply 1 - 2 coats of the OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener, and in a few days when that starts chipping is when I know it's time to remove the OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener with nail polish remover and start the routine over again. And of course Biotin every day :)

Thank you so much for being so thorough! It is so helpful to have a creator who is willing to make corrections based on scientific research because her followers have questions. I think I'm going to switch up my routine a bit as well now. I'm currently using a copper peptide solution in the AM and because of that, I discontinued the use of vitamin C. Now I'm going to reintroduce vitamin C and move my peptides to the PM alongside my Adapalene. I do use the Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating serum 2x per week so that will replace my peptides and Adapalene two nights of the week. And I will use my hypochlorous acid spray midday to refresh. Now I'm off to buy some Vitamin C!

Vitamin C in the morning(Geek and Gorgeous), SPF cream during the day(you have many options here), retinol at night(Avene: retinal). And a good cleanser (CeraVe) moisturizer (with hyaluronic acid& niacinamide:Avene Activ B3 for example). That's it! But don't expect miracles, you will just get better looking skin. I gave up on thinking that it would improve my wrinkles a long time ago!!! Peptides are trendy, but they don't have enough scientific backup yet, so if you don't want to complicate your routine you can skip them and just use the ingredients I mentioned above. Hope you find my response useful ❤

Thank you! ❤ I’m with Dr Luke on hypochloric acid, knowing that it is a prooxidant (a LOT of disinfectants are, it’s part of why/how they work) it’s only logical to hypothesize that using it with antioxidants may be contrainductive (sorry, English is not my first language, I might be wording that wrong, but I hope you the reader understand what I’m trying to say 😊)

This is so interesting, and it actually makes a lot of sense to me because when I use hypochlorous acid spray on its own, I get the best results with my acne. When I’ve used it with other products besides sunscreen, I always got irritated and my acne didn’t heal faster. Thanks Abbey!
